Kepler map

We present a consecutive derivation of mapping equations of motion for the one-dimensional classical hydrogenic atom in a monochromatic field of any frequency. We analyze this map in the case of high and low relative frequency of the field and transition from regular to chaotic behavior. We show that the map at aphelion is suitable for investigation of transition to chaotic behavior also in the low frequency field and even for adiabatic ionization when the strength of the external field is comparable with the Coulomb field. Moreover, the approximate analytical criterion (taking into account the electron's energy increase by the influence of the field) yields a threshold field strength quite close to the numerical results. We reveal that transition from adiabatic to chaotic ionization takes place when the ratio of the field frequency to the electron Kepler frequency approximately equals 0.1. For the dynamics and ionization in a very low frequency field the Kepler map can be converted to a differential equation and solved analytically. The threshold field of the adiabatic ionization obtained from the map is only 1.5% lower than the exact field strength of static field ionization.

Modelling by maps of two-frequency microwave ionization of hydrogen atoms

Mapping equations of motion of the highly exited classical atom in a monochromatic field are generalized for the two-frequency microwave field. Analysis of the obtained equations indicates to the weak sensitivity of the position of the recently observed ionization peak near the main resonance to the frequency and amplitude of the additional microwave field. In the high frequency region, however, the sensitivity of the enhanced ionization peaks on the additional field frequency is predicted.

Rydberg Atoms Ionisation by Microwave Field and Electromagnetic Pulses

A simple theory of the Rydberg atoms ionisation by electromagnetic pulses and microwave field is presented. The analysis is based on the scale transformation which reduces the number of parameters and reveals the functional dependencies of the processes. It is shown that the observed ionisation of Rydberg atoms by subpicosecond electromagnetic pulses scale classically. The threshold electric field required to ionise a Rydberg state may be simply evaluated in the photonic basis approach for the quantum dynamics or from the multiphoton ionisation theory.

Ionization of Rydberg atoms in a low frequency field: modelling by maps of transition to chaotic behavior

We investigate a microwave ionization of highly excited atom in a low frequency field and show that such a process may be studied on the bases of map for the electron energy change during the period of the electron motion between two subsequent passages at aphelion. Simple approximate criterion results to the threshold field for transition to chaotic behavior very close to the numerical results. We show that transition from adiabatic to chaotic ionization mechanism takes place when the field frequency to the electron's Kepler frequency ration approximately equals 0.1.
