The HITRAN2024 methane update

Spectroscopic parameters of methane from many different studies were gathered to improve the HITRAN database towards its 2024 version. After a validation process using high-resolution FTS and CRDS spectra, about 80,000 lines of the four most abundant isotopologues were replaced from the dyad to the triacontad regions. These changes amount to 51,000 transition wavenumbers, 18,000 line intensities, 33,000 pressure-broadening half-widths, and 3300 assignments. 44,000 new lines were added with 16,000 old lines removed, extending the database from 12,000 cm$^{-1}$ up to 14,000 cm$^{-1}$, and covering some gaps. A greater focus was brought on the pentad, octad, and tetradecad regions, targeted by several remote sensing instruments. In these regions, comparisons of spectral fits from multiple line lists were performed, taking only the parameters that provide best fit for each line. In the $\nu _3$ band, in addition to replacing the previous values, speed-independent pressure broadening parameters of $^{12}$CH$_4$ were gathered and used to fit Pad\'e-approximant functions. These functions then replaced any outdated experimental data in $\nu _3$, missing data in the new lines, as well as the values that were determined to be outside their physical boundaries. The CH$_3$D broadening parameters were replaced in the same manner, for missing and low or high values, using a semi-empirical formula instead.

First Measurement of Correlated Charge Noise in Superconducting Qubits at an Underground Facility

We measure space- and time-correlated charge jumps on a four-qubit device, operating 107 meters below the Earth's surface in a low-radiation, cryogenic facility designed for the characterization of low-threshold particle detectors. The rock overburden of this facility reduces the cosmic ray muon flux by over 99% compared to laboratories at sea level. Combined with 4$\pi$ coverage of a movable lead shield, this facility enables quantifiable control over the flux of ionizing radiation on the qubit device. Long-time-series charge tomography measurements on these weakly charge-sensitive qubits capture discontinuous jumps in the induced charge on the qubit islands, corresponding to the interaction of ionizing radiation with the qubit substrate. The rate of these charge jumps scales with the flux of ionizing radiation on the qubit package, as characterized by a series of independent measurements on another energy-resolving detector operating simultaneously in the same cryostat with the qubits. Using lead shielding, we achieve a minimum charge jump rate of 0.19$^{+0.04}_{-0.03}$ mHz, almost an order of magnitude lower than that measured in surface tests, but a factor of roughly eight higher than expected based on reduction of ambient gammas alone. We operate four qubits for over 22 consecutive hours with zero correlated charge jumps at length scales above three millimeters.

The XXL Survey XX: The 365 cluster catalogue

In the currently debated context of using clusters of galaxies as cosmological probes, the need for well-defined cluster samples is critical. The XXL Survey has been specifically designed to provide a well characterised sample of some 500 X-ray detected clusters suitable for cosmological studies. The main goal of present article is to make public and describe the properties of the cluster catalogue in its present state, as well as of associated catalogues as super-clusters and fossil groups. We release a sample containing 365 clusters in total. We give the details of the follow-up observations and explain the procedure adopted to validate the cluster spectroscopic redshifts. Considering the whole XXL cluster sample, we have provided two types of selection, both complete in a particular sense: one based on flux-morphology criteria, and an alternative based on the [0.5-2] keV flux within one arcmin of the cluster centre. We have also provided X-ray temperature measurements for 80$\%$ of the clusters having a flux larger than 9$\times$10$^{-15}$$\rm \thinspace erg \, s^{-1} \, cm^{-2}$. Our cluster sample extends from z$\sim$0 to z$\sim$1.2, with one cluster at z$\sim$2. Clusters were identified through a mean number of six spectroscopically confirmed cluster members. Our updated luminosity function and luminosity-temperature relation are compatible with our previous determinations based on the 100 brightest clusters, but show smaller uncertainties. We also present an enlarged list of super-clusters and a sample of 18 possible fossil groups. This intermediate publication is the last before the final release of the complete XXL cluster catalogue when the ongoing C2 cluster spectroscopic follow-up is complete. It provides a unique inventory of medium-mass clusters over a 50~\dd\ area out to z$\sim$1.

The XXL Survey: XXVII. The 3XLSS point source catalogue

We present the version of the point source catalogue of the XXL Survey that was used, in part, in the first series of XXL papers. In this paper we release, in our database in Milan and at CDS: (i) the X-ray source catalogue with 26056 objects in two areas of 25 deg2; (ii) the associated multiwavelength catalogues with candidate counterparts of the X-ray sources in the infrared, near-infrared, optical, and ultraviolet (plus spectroscopic redshift when available); and (iii) a catalogue of spectroscopic redshifts recently obtained in the southern XXL area. We also present the basic properties of the X-ray point sources and their counterparts. Other catalogues described in the second series of XXL papers will be released contextually, and will constitute the second XXL data release.

Recent results on two-photon and tau physics at BABAR

We present a measurement of the total width, Gamma_tot, and mass, M, of the eta_c meson with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B-factory at SLAC. The results based on a data sample of 88 fb^-1 are Gamma_tot = (33.3 +- 2.5(stat.) +- 0.8(sys.))MeV and M = (2983.3 +- 1.2 +- 1.8) MeV. An enhancement observed around 3.63 GeV can be interpreted as an evidence for the eta_c(2S) state. In addition a preliminary measurement of the tau lepton lifetime using 30.2 fb^-1 is described. The measured tau lifetime is: (290.8 +- 1.5(stat.) +- 1.6(syst.))fs.

Evidence for crossover from a Bose-Einstein condensate to a BCS-like superconductor with doping in YBa2Cu3O(7-x) from quasiparticle relaxation dynamics experiments

Time resolved measurements of quasiparticle (QP) relaxation dynamics on the femtosecond timescale are reported as a function of temperature and doping in YBa2Cu3O(7-x) for (0.48 < x < 0.1). In the underdoped state (x > 0.15), there is no evidence for any changes in the low-energy gap structure at Tc from either photoinduced QP absorption or QP relaxation time data. In combination with the sum rule, this implies the existence of pre-formed pairs up to a much higher temperature T*. Near x = 0.1 a rapid cross-over is observed, to a state where the QP recombination time diverges and the photoinduced QP density falls to zero at Tc, indicating the existence of a temperature-dependent superconducting gap which closes at Tc.

Divergence of the quasiparticle lifetime with doping and evidence for pre-formed pairs below T* in YBa_2Cu3$O_{7-δ}

We report new time-resolved data of quasiparticle relaxation and Cooper pair recombination dynamics in YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-δ}, measured as a function of temperature and doping δusing femtosecond optical spectroscopy. The data show the existence of a normal state pseudo-gap for in-plane charge excitations below T* and an unusual divergence of the quasiparticle relaxation time in the superconducting state τ_s with δtowards optimum doping. In the underdoped state, no change in the amplitude of the induced transmission (which is proportional to the DOS at E_F), or relaxation time τ_s is observed at T_c. From the sum rule, both observations signify that no gap opens at T_c in underdoped YBCO for δ>0.15. T_c in this case only signifies the onset of phase coherence. The presented data thus suggest pair formation with an associated redistribution of the DOS starting at T* and the establishment of phase coherence at T_c consistent with Bose-Einstein condensation. In the optimally doped material, δ~ 0.1, on the other hand, both a divergence in lifetime and a change of the DOS occur at T_c, signifying the opening of a gap and the occurence of pairing takes place simultaneously.
