Planar waveguide structures for production of modally entangled biphotons with spectrum broadening

We study the generation of biphoton modally entangled states in such waveguide structures that lead to spectrum broadening. The process of spontaneous parametric down conversion (SPDC) has been considered for the biphoton generation. The main subject of our study is the dependence of the biphoton spectra on the structure spatial characteristics. The representation of the core structures as definite assembles of nonlinear layers allows us to find analytical description for biphoton spectrum. We show that chirped biphotons with discrete as well as continuous spectra can be generated depending on the waveguide structure. The conditions for spectrum discretization are obtained analytically. It is shown that the biphoton entangled states can be controlled by varying the parameters of the waveguide structure.

Resonance fluorescence from an asymmetric quantum dot dressed by a bichromatic electromagnetic field

We present the theory of resonance fluorescence from an asymmetric quantum dot driven by a two-component electromagnetic field with two different frequencies, polarizations and amplitudes (bichromatic field) in the regime of strong light-matter coupling. It follows from the elaborated theory that the broken inversion symmetry of the driven quantum system and the bichromatic structure of the driving field result in unexpected features of the resonance fluorescence, including the infinite set of Mollow triplets, the quench of fluorescence peaks induced by the dressing field, and the oscillating behavior of the fluorescence intensity as a function of the dressing field amplitude. These quantum phenomena are of general physical nature and, therefore, can take place in various double-driven quantum systems with broken inversion symmetry.

Selective excitations of a Kerr-nonlinear resonator: exactly solvable approach

We study Kerr nonlinear resonators (KNR) driven by a continuous wave field in quantum regimes where strong Kerr interactions give rise to selective resonant excitations of oscillatory modes. We use an exact quantum theory of KNR in the framework of the Fokker-Planck equation without any quantum state truncation or perturbation procedure. This approach allows non-perturbative consideration of KNR for various quantum operational regimes including cascaded processes between oscillatory states. We focus on understanding of multi-photon non-resonant and selective resonant excitations of introcavity mode depending on the detuning, the amplitude of the driving field and the strength of nonlinearity. The analysis is provided on the base of photon number distributions, the photon-number correlation function and the Wigner function.

Phase-locking at low-level of quanta

We discuss phase-locking phenomena at low-level of quanta for parametrically driven nonlinear Kerr resonator (PDNR) in strong quantum regime. Oscillatory mode of PDNR is created in the process of a degenerate down-conversion of photons under interaction with a train of external Gaussian pulses. We calculate the Wigner functions of cavity mode showing two-fold symmetry in phase space and analyse formation of phase-locked states in the regular as well as the quantum chaotic regime.

Quantum statistics in time-modulated exciton-photon system

We consider a system consisting of a large individual quantum dot with excitonic resonance coupled to a single mode photonic cavity in the nonlinear regime when exciton- exciton interaction becomes important. We show that in the presence of time-modulated external coherent pumping the system demonstrates essentially non classical behavior reflected in sub-Poissonian statistics of exciton- and photon-modes and the Wigner functions with negative values in phase-space for time-intervals exceeding the characteristic time of dissipative processes, $t\ggγ^{-1}$. It is shown that these results are cardinally different from the analogous results in the regime of the monomode continues-wave (cw) excitation.

Excitations of photon-number states in Kerr nonlinear resonator at finite temperatures

We investigate temperature reservoir effects in a lossy Kerr nonlinear resonator considering selective excitation of ooscillatory mode driven by a sequence of Gaussian pulses. In this way, we analyze time-dependent populations of photon-number states and quantum statistics on the base of second-order photon correlation function in one-photon and two-photon transitions. The effects coming from thermal reservoirs are interesting for performing more realistic approach to generate Fock states and for study phenomena connecting quantum engineering and temperature. We also study the role of pulse-shaping effects during selective excitation.

Lamb Shift of Energy Levels in Quantum Rings

We study the vacuum radiative corrections to energy levels of a confined electron in quantum rings. The calculations are provided for the Lamb shift of energy levels in low-momentum region of virtual photons and for both one-dimensional and two-dimensional quantum rings. We show that contrary to the well known case of a hydrogen atom the value of the Lamb shift increases with the magnetic momentum quantum number m. We also investigate the dependence of the Lamb shift on magnetic flux piercing the ring and demonstrate a presence of magnetic-flux-dependent oscillations. For one-dimensional ring the value of the shift strongly depends on the radius of the ring. It is extremely small for semiconductor rings but can attain measurable quantities in natural organic ring-shape molecules, such as benzene, cycloalcanes and porphyrins.

Chaos due to parametric excitation: phase space symmetry and photon correlations

We discuss dissipative chaos showing symmetries in the phase space and nonclassical statistics for a parametrically driven nonlinear Kerr resonator (PDNR). In this system an oscillatory mode is created in the process of degenerate down-conversion of photons under interaction with a train of external Gaussian pulses. For chaotic regime we demonstrate, that the Poincaré section showing a strange attractor, as well as the resonator mode contour plots of the Wigner functions display two-fold symmetry in the phase space. We show that quantum-to-classical correspondence is strongly violated for some chaotic regimes of the PDNR. Considering the second-order correlation function we show that the high-level of photons correlation leading to squeezing in the regular regime strongly decreases if the system transits to the chaotic regime. Thus, observation of the photon-number correlation allows to extract information about the chaotic regime.

Multiphoton blockades in pulsed regimes beyond the stationary limits

We demonstrate multiphoton blockades (PB) in the pulsed regime by using Kerr nonlinear dissipative resonator driven by a sequence of Gaussian pulses. It is shown that the results obtained for single-photon, two-photon and three-photon blockades in the pulsed excitation regime differ considerably from analogous results obtained for the case of continuous-wave (cw) driving. We strongly demonstrate that for the case of cw pumping of the Kerr-nonlinear resonator there are fundamental limits on populations of lower photonic number-states (with n = 0, 1, 2, 3). Thus, such detailed comparison demonstrates that PB due to excitation with a suitable photon pulses is realized beyond the fundamental limits established for cw excitations. We analyze photon-number effects and investigate phase-space properties of PB on the base of photon number populations, the second-order correlation functions and the Wigner functions in phase space. Generation of Fock states due to PB in the pulsed regime is analysed in details.

Probing of quantum dissipative chaos by purity

In this paper, the purity of quantum states is applied to probe chaotic dissipative dynamics. To achieve this goal, a comparative analysis of regular and chaotic regimes of nonlinear dissipative oscillator (NDO) are performed on the base of excitation number and the purity of oscillatory states. While the chaotic regime is identified in our semiclassical approach by means of strange attractors in Poincaré section and with the Lyapunov exponent, the state in the quantum regime is treated via the Wigner function. Specifically, interesting quantum purity effects that accompany the chaotic dynamics are elucidated in this paper for NDO system driven by either: (i) a time-modulated field, or (ii) a sequence of pulses with Gaussian time-dependent envelopes.

Bistability and chaos at low-level of quanta

We study nonlinear phenomena of bistability and chaos at a level of few quanta. For this purpose we consider a single-mode dissipative oscillator with strong Kerr nonlinearity with respect to dissipation rate driven by a monochromatic force as well as by a train of Gaussian pulses. The quantum effects and decoherence in oscillatory mode are investigated on the framework of the purity of states and the Wigner functions calculated from the master equation. We demonstrate the quantum chaotic regime by means of a comparison between the contour plots of the Wigner functions and the strange attractors on the classical Poincaré section. Considering bistability at low-limit of quanta, we analyze what is the minimal level of excitation numbers at which the bistable regime of the system is displayed? We also discuss the formation of oscillatory chaotic regime by varying oscillatory excitation numbers at ranges of few quanta. We demonstrate quantum-interference phenomena that are assisted hysteresis-cycle behavior and quantum chaos for the oscillator driven by the train of Gaussian pulses as well as we establish the border of classical-quantum correspondence for chaotic regimes in the case of strong nonlinearities.

Chirped quasi-phase-matching with Gauss sums for production of biphotons

We study the theory of linearly chirped biphoton wave-packets produced in two basic quasi-phase-matching configurations: chirped photonic-like crystals and aperiodically poled crystals. The novelty is that these structures are considered as definite assembles of nonlinear layers that leads to detailed description of spontaneous parametric down-conversion (SPDC) processes through the discrete Gauss sums. We demonstrate that biphoton spectra for chirped photonic crystals involving a small number of layers consist from definite well-resolved spectral lines. We also discuss the forming of broadband spectra of signal (idler) waves in SPDC for both configurations as number of layers increases as well as in dependence of chirping parameters .

Engineering of oscillatory quantum states by parametric excitation

We consider preparation of nonclassical oscillatory states in a degenerate parametric oscillator combined with phase modulation. In this scheme intracavity oscillatory mode is excited by train of Gaussian laser pulses through degenerate down-conversion process and phase modulation element inserted in a cavity leads to anharmonicity of oscillatory mode. We demonstrate production of nonclassical oscillatory states with two-fold symmetry in phase-space including the superposition of Fock states and quantum localized states on the level of few excitation numbers and in over-transient dissipative regime.

Pulsed "three-photon" light

Generating multi-photon entangled states is a primary task for applications of quantum information processing. We investigate production of photon-triplet in a regime of light amplification in second-order nonlinear media under action of a pulsed laser beam. For this goal the process of cascaded three-photon splitting in an optical cavity driven by a sequence of laser pulses with Gaussian time-dependent envelopes is investigated. Considering production of photon-triplet for short-time regime and in the cascaded three-wave collinear configuration Generating multi-photon entangled states is a primary task for applications of quantum information processing. Considering production of photon-triplet for short-time regime and in the cascaded three-wave collinear configuration we shortly analyze preparation of polarization-non-product states looking further applications of these results in the cascaded optical parametric oscillator. It is also demonststed the nonclassical characteritics of the photon-triplet in phase-space on the base of the Wigner function. Calculating the normalized third-order correlation functions below-and at the generation threshold of cascaded optical parametric oscillator, we demonstrate that in the pulsed regime, depending on the duration of pulses and the time-interval separations between them, the degree of three-photon-number correlation essentially exceed the analogous one for the case of continuous pumping.

Photon-photon interaction in structured QED vacuum

In spatially structured strong laser fields, quantum electrodynamical vacuum behaves like a nonlinear Kerr medium with modulated third-order susceptibility where new coherent nonlinear effects arise due to modulation. We consider the enhancement of vacuum polarization and magnetization via coherent spatial vacuum effects in the photon-photon interaction process during scattering of a probe laser beam on parallel focused laser beams. Both processes of elastic and inelastic four wave-mixing in structured QED vacuum accompanied with Bragg interference are investigated. The phase-matching conditions and coherent effects in the presence of Bragg grating are analyzed for photon-photon scattering.

Generation of Fock states and qubits in periodically pulsed nonlinear oscillator

We demonstrate a quantum regime of dissipative nonlinear oscillator where creation of Fock states as well as superpositions of Fock states are realized for time-intervals exceeding the characteristic decoherence time. Preparation of quantum states is conditioned by strong Kerr nonlinearity as well as by excitation of resolved lower oscillatory energy levels with specific train of Gaussian pulses. This provides practical signatures to look for in experiments with cooled nonlinear oscillators.

Phase-reversed structures in superlattice of nonlinear materials

We present detailed description of so-called phase-reversed structures that are characterized by two grating wave vectors allowing simultaneously phase-match two parametric three-wave processes. The novelty is that the structure is realized as a definite assembly of nonlinear segments leading to detailed description of cascaded three-photon processes with the parameters of realistic structured nonlinear materials of finite length. We apply these results for analysis of the quasi-phase-matching in production of both photon triplet and four-photon states in cascaded down-conversion. The received results are matched with the experimental data.

Dissipative Chaos in Quantum Distributions

We discuss some problems of dissipative chaos for open quantum systems in the framework of semiclassical and quantum distributions. For this goal, we propose a driven nonlinear oscillator with time-dependent coefficients, i.e. with time-dependent Kerr-nonlinearity and time-modulated driving field. This model showing both regular and chaotic dynamics in the classical limit is realized in several experimental schemes. Quantum dissipative chaos is analyzed on the base of numerical method of quantum trajectories. Three quantities are studied: the Wigner function of oscillatory mode from the point of view of quantum-assemble theory and both semiclassical Poincare section and quantum Poincare section calculated on a single quantum trajectory. The comparatively analysis of these distributions for various operational chaotic regimes of the models is performed, as well as scaling invariance in dissipative chaos and quantum interference effects assisted by chaos are discussed.
