Genuine multipartite entanglement and quantum coherence in an electron-positron system: Relativistic covariance

The last two decades have witnessed an increasing effort of the scientific community toward pursuing a better framework for quantum resource covariance, with the focus predominantly posed on quantum entanglement. In this work, we move the discussion one step further by analyzing the behavior of both genuine multipartite entanglement and quantum coherence under Lorentz boosts. Specifically, we conduct a case study for the problem of an electron-positron pair created in a superposed multipartite pure state. Our approach is different from the standard treatments also in that we consider all the components of the four-momentum, thus allowing for an inspection of scenarios wherein entanglement can be encoded among these degrees of freedom as well. Our analysis reveals interesting subtleties in this problem, like the fact that genuine 4-partite entanglement in the lab frame transforms into genuine 8-partite entanglement plus quantum coherence in the perspective of the Lorentz-boosted frame. Moreover, a given combination of these quantum resources is shown to form a Lorentz invariant. Although our findings are not able to determine, via first principles, an information-theoretic Lorentz invariant, they pave the way for fundamental incursions along this line.

Geometric Quantization: Particles, Fields and Strings

These notes present an introduction to the method of geometric quantization. We discuss the main theorems in a style suitable for a theoretical physicist with an eye towards the physical motivation and the interpretation of the geometric construction as providing a solution to Dirac's axioms of quantization. We provide in detail the examples of free relativistic particles, their corresponding quantum fields, and the bosonic string using formalism of double field theory. Based on lectures written by Gabriel Cardoso.

Anomalous Hall effect at the Lifshitz transition in ZrTe5

Zirconium pentatelluride ZrTe5 is a topological semimetal. The presence of a temperature induced Lifshitz transition, in which the Fermi level goes from the conduction band to the valence band with increasing temperature, provides unique opportunities to study the interplay between Fermi-surface topology, dynamics of Dirac fermions, and Berry curvature in one system. Here we present a combined experimental and theoretical study and show that a low energy model can be used to understand the complicated Hall response and large anomalous Hall effect observed in ZrTe5 over a wide range of temperature and magnetic field. We found that the anomalous Hall contribution dominates the Hall response in a narrow temperature window around the Lifshitz transition, away from which the orbital contribution dominates. Moreover, our results indicate that a topological phase transition coexists with the Lifshitz transition. Our model provides a unifying framework to understand the Hall effect in semimetals with large Zeeman splitting and non-trivial topology.

The boundary density profile of a Coulomb droplet. Freezing at the edge

We revisit the problem of computing the boundary density profile of a droplet of two-dimensional one-component plasma (2D OCP) with logarithmic interaction between particles in a confining harmonic potential. At a sufficiently low temperature but still in the liquid phase, the density exhibits oscillations as a function of the distance to the boundary of the droplet. We obtain the density profile numerically using Monte-Carlo simulations of the 2D OCP. We argue that the decay and period of those oscillations can be explained within a picture of the Wigner crystallization near the boundary, where the crystal is gradually melted with the increasing distance to the boundary.
