The p-adic analytic space of pseudocharacters of a profinite group and pseudorepresentations over arbitrary rings

Let G be a profinite group which is topologically finitely generated, p a prime number and d an integer. We show that the functor from rigid analytic spaces over Q_p to sets, which associates to a rigid space Y the set of continuous d-dimensional pseudocharacters G -> O(Y), is representable by a quasi-Stein rigid analytic space X, and we study its general properties. Our main tool is a theory of "determinants" extending the one of pseudocharacters but which works over an arbitrary base ring; an independent aim of this paper is to expose the main facts of this theory. The moduli space X is constructed as the generic fiber of the moduli formal scheme of continuous formal determinants on G of dimension d. As an application to number theory, this provides a framework to study the generic fibers of pseudodeformation rings (e.g. of Galois representations), especially in the "residually reducible" case, and including when p <= d.

Level one algebraic cusp forms of classical groups of small ranks

We determine the number of level 1, polarized, algebraic regular, cuspidal automorphic representations of GL_n over Q of any given infinitesimal character, for essentially all n <= 8. For this, we compute the dimensions of spaces of level 1 automorphic forms for certain semisimple Z-forms of the compact groups SO_7, SO_8, SO_9 (and G_2) and determine Arthur's endoscopic partition of these spaces in all cases. We also give applications to the 121 even lattices of rank 25 and determinant 2 found by Borcherds, to level one self-dual automorphic representations of GL_n with trivial infinitesimal character, and to vector valued Siegel modular forms of genus 3. A part of our results are conditional to certain expected results in the theory of twisted endoscopy.

On the infinite fern of Galois representations of unitary type

Let E be a CM number field, F its maximal totally real subfield, c the generator of Gal(E/F), p an odd prime totally split in E, and S a finite set of places of E containing the places above p. Let r : G_{E,S} --> GL_3(F_p^bar) be a modular, absolutely irreducible, Galois representation of type U(3), i.e. such that r^* = r^c, and let X(r) be the rigid analytic generic fiber of its universal G_{E,S}-deformation of type U(3). We show that each irreducible component of the Zariski-closure of the modular points in X(r) has dimension at least 6[F:Q]. We study an analogue of the infinite fern of Gouvea-Mazur in this context and deal with the Hilbert modular case as well. As important steps, we prove that any first order deformation of a generic enough crystalline representation of Gal(Q_p^bar/Q_p) (of any dimension) is a linear combination of trianguline deformations, and that unitary eigenvarieties (of any rank) are etale over the weight space at the non-critical classical points. As another application, we obtain a general theorem about the image of the localization at p of the p-adic Adjoint' Selmer group of the p-adic Galois representations attached to any cuspidal, cohomological, automorphic representation Pi of GL_n(A_E) such that Pi^* = Pi^c (for any n).

Let p be a prime, C the p-adic Eigencurve (with tame level 1) and Z the blow-up of the Fredholm hypersurface of the U_p - operator at the special points. We show that for p = 2, 3, 5 and 7, the natural map C -> Z is a rigid-analytic isomorphism.

Corps de nombres peu ramifies et formes automorphes autoduales

Let S be a finite set of primes, p in S, and Q_S a maximal algebraic extension of Q unramified outside S and infinity. Assume that |S|>=2. We show that the natural maps Gal(Q_p^bar/Q_p) --> Gal(Q_S/Q) are injective. Much of the paper is devoted to the problem of constructing selfdual automorphic cuspidal representations of GL(2n,A_Q) with prescribed properties at all places, that we study via the twisted trace formula of J. Arthur. The techniques we develop shed also some lights on the orthogonal/symplectic alternative for selfdual representations of GL(2n).

Graphs having no quantum symmetry

We consider circulant graphs having $p$ vertices, with $p$ prime. To any such graph we associate a certain number $k$, that we call type of the graph. We prove that for $p>>k$ the graph has no quantum symmetry, in the sense that the quantum automorphism group reduces to the classical automorphism group.

On number fields with given ramification

Let E/F be a CM field split above a finite place v of F, let l be a rational prime number which is prime to v, and let S be the set of places of E dividing lv. If E_S denotes a maximal algebraic extension of E unramified outside S, and if u is a place of E dividing v, we show that any field embedding E_S \to \bar{E_u} has a dense image. The "unramified outside S" number fields we use are cut out from the l-adic cohomology of the "simple" Shimura varieties studied by Kottwitz and Harris-Taylor. The main ingredients of the proof are then the local Langlands correspondence for GL_n, the main global theorem of Harris-Taylor, and the construction of automorphic representations with prescribed local behaviours. We explain how stronger results would follow from the knowledge of some expected properties of Siegel modular forms, and we discuss the case of the Galois group of a maximal algebraic extension of Q unramified outside a single prime p and infinity.

Lissite de la courbe de Hecke de GL(2) aux points Eisenstein critiques

Let p be a prime number and C be the p-adic tame level 1 eigencurve introduced by Coleman-Mazur. We prove that C is smooth at the evil Eisenstein points and we give necessary and sufficient conditions for etaleness of the map to the weight space at these points in terms of p-adic zeta values. A key step is the determination at these points of the schematic reducibility locus of the pseudo-character carried by C restricted to a decomposition group at p. Then, the smoothness appears to be a consequence of the fact that the Dirichlet L-functions only have simple zeros at integers.

Une correspondance de Jacquet-Langlands p-adique

We extend the Jacquet-Langlands'correspondence between the Hecke-modules of usual and quaternionic modular forms, to overconvergent p-adic forms of finite slope. We show that this correspondence respects p-adic families and is induced by an isomorphism between some associated eigencurves.
