Triply charged Higgs bosons at a 100 TeV $pp$ collider

The neutral Higgs boson predicted from spontaneous breaking of electroweak symmetry in the standard model (SM) has been discovered. Precision test of the Higgs boson properties is one of the promising ways to study new physics beyond SM. Some of the most important information to know is whether there are additional Higgs bosons, neutral, singly charged and even multi-charged ones. In this work, we study the potential to search for triply charged Higgs bosons in the final state with at least three same-sign leptons. A detailed collider analysis of the SM backgrounds and signals at a 100~TeV $pp$ collider is performed with $5σ$ discovery prospects being obtained, which are expressed as a function of the vacuum expectation value (VEV) $v_Δ$ or the mass splitting $Δm$. We also revisit the sensitivity at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) by projecting that at a 100~TeV $pp$ collider. For a comparison, two benchmark values $v_Δ=10^{-6}~\text{GeV}$ and $5\times 10^{-3}~\text{GeV}$ are taken. We find that for the triply charged Higgs boson mass below 1~TeV $5σ$ discovery significance can be reached at a 100~TeV $pp$ collider with $3.3~\text{fb}^{-1}$ and $110~\text{fb}^{-1}$ of data, respectively, the sensitivity of which is much better than that at the LHC.

Flavor-changing hyperon decays with light invisible bosons

We consider the strangeness-changing decays of hyperons into another baryon and missing energy which is carried away by a pair of invisible spinless bosons. Pursuing a model-independent approach and taking into account constraints from the kaon sector, we find that these hyperon modes can have large rates, especially if the bosons have parity-odd effective couplings to light quarks. In that case the rates could attain values which are well within the expected reach of the currently running BESIII experiment. Since the branching fractions of hyperon decays with missing energy are tiny in the standard model, observing them at ongoing or upcoming facilities would likely be indicative of new physics. In addition, we show that the kaon restrictions may be weakened or absent if the bosons have nonnegligible mass. Specifically, if the bosons interact with the quarks solely via an axial-vector current, in the mass region from about 115 to 175 MeV the constraints from rare kaon decays no longer apply and a couple of the hyperon modes become the only direct probes of such interactions. We also make comparisons with the previously explored new-physics scenario where the invisible particles are spin-1/2 fermions.

Decision Models for Workforce and Technology Planning in Services

Today's service companies operate in a technology-oriented and knowledge-intensive environment while recruiting and training individuals from an increasingly diverse population. One of the resulting challenges is ensuring strategic alignment between their two key resources - technology and workforce - through the resource planning and allocation processes. The traditional hierarchical decision approach to resource planning and allocation considers only technology planning as a strategic-level decision, with workforce recruiting and training planning as a subsequent tactical-level decision. However, two other decision approaches - joint and integrated - elevate workforce planning to the same strategic level as technology planning. Thus we investigate the impact of strategically aligning technology and workforce decisions through the comparison of joint and integrated models to each other and to a baseline hierarchical model in terms of the total cost. Numerical experiments are conducted to characterize key features of solutions provided by these approaches under conditions typically found in this type of service company. Our results show that the integrated model is the lowest cost across all conditions. This is because the integrated approach maintains a small but skilled workforce that can operate new and more advanced technology with higher capacity. However, the cost performance of the joint model is very close to the integrated model under many conditions and is easier to implement computationally and managerially, making it a good choice in many environments. Managerial insights derived from this study can serve as a valuable guide for choosing the proper decision approach for technology-oriented and knowledge-intensive service companies.

KIC 4142768: An Evolved Gamma Doradus/Delta Scuti Hybrid Pulsating Eclipsing Binary with Tidally Excited Oscillations

We present the characterization of KIC 4142768, an eclipsing binary with two evolved A-type stars in an eccentric orbit with a period of 14 days. We measure the fundamental parameters of the two components ($M_1=2.05M_{\odot}, R_1=2.96R_{\odot}$ and $M_2=2.05M_{\odot}, R_2=2.51R_{\odot}$) by combining {\it Kepler} photometry and spectra from {\it Keck} HIRES. The measured surface rotation rates are only one-fifth of the pseudo-synchronous rate of the eccentric orbit. Fourier spectrum of the light curve reveals hybrid pulsations of $δ$ Scuti and $γ$ Doradus type, with pulsation frequencies at about $15-18$ day$^{-1}$ for p modes and about $0.2-1.2$ day$^{-1}$ for low-frequency g modes. Some of the g modes are exact orbital harmonics and are likely tidally excited. Their pulsation amplitudes and phases both agree with predictions from the linear tidal theory for $l=2, m=2$ prograde modes. We examine the period spacing patterns in the free oscillating g modes and identify them mostly as prograde sectoral dipole modes. The unstable frequency range and frequency spacing of p modes and the inferred asymptotic g-mode period spacings both agree with the stellar model for the primary star evolved to a late stage of the main sequence. The inferred rotation rate of the convective core boundary is very slow, similar to the small surface rotation rate inferred from the spectroscopy. The measured surface and near-core rotation rates provide constraints for testing the mechanism of angular momentum transfer and tidal synchronization in evolved eccentric binary star systems.

A Mass-accreting Gamma Doradus Pulsator with a Synchronized Core in Kepler Eclipsing Binary KIC 7385478

The short-period (P $\approx1.7$ d), Algol-type eclipsing binary KIC 7385478 consists of an F-type primary star ($M_1 \approx 1.71M_{\odot}$) and an evolved K-type secondary ($M_2 \approx 0.37M_{\odot}$) (Ozdarcan \& Ali Dal 2017). We study the variability of the {\it Kepler} light curve and attribute many frequency peaks in the Fourier spectrum to the spot modulation. These frequencies are in the form of orbital harmonics and are highly variable in amplitude. They are most likely from the mass-accreting primary star. In addition, we identify a series prograde dipole g-modes from the primary star which show a quasi-linear period spacing pattern and are very stable in amplitude. The period spacing pattern reveals an asymptotic period spacing value in agreement with fundamental parameters of the primary star and also implies that the near-convective-core rotation rate is almost the same as the orbital period. Thus both the surface and the core of this Gamma Dor pulsator have synchronized with the binary orbit. We find that a lower stellar mass $\approx 1.50 M_{\odot}$ and higher effective temperature are needed in order to be compatible with the asteroseismic constraints from single star evolutionary models.

Learning to Infer Entities, Properties and their Relations from Clinical Conversations

Recently we proposed the Span Attribute Tagging (SAT) Model (Du et al., 2019) to infer clinical entities (e.g., symptoms) and their properties (e.g., duration). It tackles the challenge of large label space and limited training data using a hierarchical two-stage approach that identifies the span of interest in a tagging step and assigns labels to the span in a classification step. We extend the SAT model to jointly infer not only entities and their properties but also relations between them. Most relation extraction models restrict inferring relations between tokens within a few neighboring sentences, mainly to avoid high computational complexity. In contrast, our proposed Relation-SAT (R-SAT) model is computationally efficient and can infer relations over the entire conversation, spanning an average duration of 10 minutes. We evaluate our model on a corpus of clinical conversations. When the entities are given, the R-SAT outperforms baselines in identifying relations between symptoms and their properties by about 32% (0.82 vs 0.62 F-score) and by about 50% (0.60 vs 0.41 F-score) on medications and their properties. On the more difficult task of jointly inferring entities and relations, the R-SAT model achieves a performance of 0.34 and 0.45 for symptoms and medications respectively, which is significantly better than 0.18 and 0.35 for the baseline model. The contributions of different components of the model are quantified using ablation analysis.

Competition between antiferromagnetic and charge density wave fluctuations in the extended Hubbard model

By extending our {\it victory} implementation of the parquet approach to include non-local Coulomb interactions, we study the extended Hubbard model on the two-dimensional square lattice with a particular focus on the competition of the non-local charge and spin fluctuations. Surprisingly, we find that their competition, as the mechanism driving the phase transition towards the charge density wave, dominates only in a very narrow parameter regime in the immediate vicinity of the phase transition. Due to the special geometry and the Fermi surface topology of the square lattice, antiferromagnetic fluctuations dominate even for sizable next-nearest neighbor interactions. Our conclusions are based on the consistent observations in both the single- and two- particle quantities, including the self-energy, the single-particle spectral function, the two-particle susceptibility, the density-density vertex function and the optical conductivity. Our work unbiasedly establishes the connection of these quantities to the charge fluctuations, and the way of interpretation can be readily applied to any many-body method with access to the two-particle vertex.

Radiative decays of $f_1(1285)$ as the $ K^*\bar K$ molecular state

Within a picture of the $f_1(1285)$ being a dynamically generated resonance from the $ K^*\bar K$ interactions, we estimate the rates for the radiative transitions of the $f_1(1285)$ meson to the vector mesons $ρ^0$,$ω$ and $ϕ$. These radiative decays proceed via the kaon loop diagrams. The calculated results are in fair agreement with the experimental measurements. Some predictions can be tested by experiments and their implementation and comparison with these predictions will be valuable to decode the nature of the $f_1(1285)$ state.

Probing invisible decay of dark photon at BESIII and future STCF via monophoton searches

We propose to search the monophoton events at the BESIII detector and future Super Tau Charm Factory to probe the sub-GeV dark photon decay into lighter dark matter. We compute the cross section due to the dark photon associated a standard model photon production, and study the corresponding standard model irreducible/reducible backgrounds. By using the data about 17 fb$^{-1}$ collected at the BESIII detector since 2011, we derive new leading limits of the mixing strength $\varepsilon$, $\varepsilon\lesssim(1.1-1.6)\times 10^{-4}$, in the mass range of 0.04 GeV $\lesssim m_{A^\prime} \lesssim$ 3 GeV. With 30 ab$^{-1}$ data, STCF running at $\sqrt{s} = 2$ GeV, can probe $\varepsilon$ down to 5.1$\times 10^{-6}$ when $m_{A^\prime}=1$ GeV. For models of scalar and fermionic light thermal dark matter production via dark photon, we present the constrains on the dimensionless dark matter parameter $y=\varepsilon^2α_D(m_χ/m_{A^\prime})^4$ as function of the DM mass $m_χ$ at BESIII and future STCF, conventionally assuming the dark coupling constant $α_D=0.5$ and $m_{A^\prime}=3 m_χ$. We find that BESIII can exclude model of scalar, Majorana, and pseudo-Dirac (with a small splitting) DM for the mass region 0.03$\sim$1 GeV, 0.04$\sim$1 GeV and 0.4$\sim$1 GeV respectively. For values $α_D\lesssim 0.005$, combining the results from 2 GeV STCF with 30 ab$^{-1}$ data and BaBar, one can exclude the above three DM models in the mass region 0.001 GeV $\lesssim m_χ \lesssim$ 1 GeV.

Insight-HXMT observations of Swift J0243.6+6124 during its 2017-2018 outburst

The recently discovered neutron star transient Swift J0243.6+6124 has been monitored by {\it the Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope} ({\it Insight-\rm HXMT). Based on the obtained data, we investigate the broadband spectrum of the source throughout the outburst. We estimate the broadband flux of the source and search for possible cyclotron line in the broadband spectrum. No evidence of line-like features is, however, found up to $\rm 150~keV$. In the absence of any cyclotron line in its energy spectrum, we estimate the magnetic field of the source based on the observed spin evolution of the neutron star by applying two accretion torque models. In both cases, we get consistent results with $B\rm \sim 10^{13}~G$, $D\rm \sim 6~kpc$ and peak luminosity of $\rm >10^{39}~erg~s^{-1}$ which makes the source the first Galactic ultraluminous X-ray source hosting a neutron star.

Doping evolution of the charge excitations and electron correlations in electron-doped superconducting La$_{2-x}$Ce$_{x}$CuO$_{4}$

Electron correlations play a dominant role in the charge dynamics of the cuprates. We use resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) to track the doping dependence of the collective charge excitations in electron doped La$_{2-x}$Ce$_{x}$CuO$_{4}$(LCCO). From the resonant energy dependence and the out-of-plane momentum dependence, the charge excitations are identified as three-dimensional (3D) plasmons, which reflect the nature of the electronic structure and Coulomb repulsion on both short and long length scales. With increasing electron doping, the plasmon excitations show monotonic hardening in energy, a consequence of the electron correlation effect on electron structure near the Fermi surface (FS). Importantly, the plasmon excitations evolve from a broad feature into a well defined peak with much increased life time, revealing the evolution of the electrons from incoherent states to coherent quasi-particles near the FS. Such evolution marks the reduction of the short-range electronic correlation, and thus the softening of the Mottness of the system with increasing electron doping.

Visible narrow cusp structure in $Λ_c^+\to p K^- π^+$ enhanced by triangle singularity

A resonance-like structure as narrow as 10 MeV is observed in the $K^-p$ invariant mass distributions in $Λ_c^+\to p K^- π^+$ at Belle. Based on the large data sample of about 1.5 million events and the small bin width of just 1 MeV for the $K^-p$ invariant mass spectrum, the narrow peak is found precisely lying at the $Λη$ threshold. While lacking evidence for a quark model state with such a narrow width at this mass region, we find that this narrow structure can be naturally identified as a threshold cusp but enhanced by the nearby triangle singularity via the $Λ$-$a_0(980)^+$ or $η$-$Σ(1660)^+$ rescatterings.

Effect of Star Rotation Rates on the Characteristics of Energetic Particle Events

Recent detection of superflares on solar-type stars by Kepler mission raised a possibility that they can be associated with energetic coronal mass ejections (CMEs) and energetic particle events (SEPs). These space weather events can impact habitability of exoplanets around these stars. Here we use the improved Particle Acceleration and Transport in the Heliosphere (iPATH) model, to model the time intensity profile and spectrum of SEPs accelerated at CME-driven shocks from stars of different ages traced by their rotation rates. We consider a solar-like (G-type) star with 6 different rotation rates varying from 0.5 to 3.0 times rotation speed of the sun. In all 6 cases, a fast CME is launched with the same speed of 1500 km/sec and the resulting time intensity profiles at 3 locations and and energy spectra at 5 locations at 1 AU are obtained. The maximum particle energy at the shock front as a function of r is also shown. Our results suggest that within 0.8 AU the maximum particle energy at the shock front increases with the rotation rate of the star. However, event integrated spectra for the five selected locations along the CME path show complicated patterns. This is because the Parker magnetic field for rapidly rotating stars is more tightly winded. Our results can be used in estimating the radiation environments of terrestrial-type exoplanets around solar-type stars.

Bidirectional RNN-based Few-shot Training for Detecting Multi-stage Attack

"Feint Attack", as a new type of APT attack, has become the focus of attention. It adopts a multi-stage attacks mode which can be concluded as a combination of virtual attacks and real attacks. Under the cover of virtual attacks, real attacks can achieve the real purpose of the attacker, as a result, it often caused huge losses inadvertently. However, to our knowledge, all previous works use common methods such as Causal-Correlation or Cased-based to detect outdated multi-stage attacks. Few attentions have been paid to detect the "Feint Attack", because the difficulty of detection lies in the diversification of the concept of "Feint Attack" and the lack of professional datasets, many detection methods ignore the semantic relationship in the attack. Aiming at the existing challenge, this paper explores a new method to solve the problem. In the attack scenario, the fuzzy clustering method based on attribute similarity is used to mine multi-stage attack chains. Then we use a few-shot deep learning algorithm (SMOTE&CNN-SVM) and bidirectional Recurrent Neural Network model (Bi-RNN) to obtain the "Feint Attack" chains. "Feint Attack" is simulated by the real attack inserted in the normal causal attack chain, and the addition of the real attack destroys the causal relationship of the original attack chain. So we used Bi-RNN coding to obtain the hidden feature of "Feint Attack" chain. In the end, our method achieved the goal to detect the "Feint Attack" accurately by using the LLDoS1.0 and LLDoS2.0 of DARPA2000 and CICIDS2017 of Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity.

Statistical analysis of interplanetary magnetic field path lengths from solar energetic electron events observed by WIND

We calculate the interplanetary magnetic field path lengths traveled by electrons in solar electron events detected by the WIND 3DP instrument from $1994$ to $2016$. The velocity dispersion analysis method is applied for electrons at energies of $\sim$ $27$ keV to $310$ keV. Previous velocity dispersion analyses employ the onset times, which are often affected by instrumental effects and the pre-existing background flux, leading to large uncertainties. We propose a new method here. Instead of using the peak or onset time, we apply the velocity dispersion analysis to the times that correspond to the rising phase of the fluxes that are a fraction, $η$, of the peak flux. We perform statistical analysis on selected events whose calculated path lengths have uncertainties smaller than $0.1$ AU. The mean and standard deviation, ($μ$, $σ$), of the calculated path lengths corresponding to $η=$ $3/4$, $1/2$, and $1/3$ of the peak flux is ($1.17$ AU, $0.17$ AU), ($1.11$ AU, $0.14$ AU), and ($1.06$ AU, $0.15$ AU). The distribution of the calculated path lengths is also well fitted by a Gaussian distribution for the $η=3/4$ and $1/3$ cases. These results suggest that in these electron events the interplanetary magnetic field topology is close to the nominal Parker spiral with little field line meandering. Our results have important implications for particles' perpendicular diffusion.

Audio De-identification: A New Entity Recognition Task

Named Entity Recognition (NER) has been mostly studied in the context of written text. Specifically, NER is an important step in de-identification (de-ID) of medical records, many of which are recorded conversations between a patient and a doctor. In such recordings, audio spans with personal information should be redacted, similar to the redaction of sensitive character spans in de-ID for written text. The application of NER in the context of audio de-identification has yet to be fully investigated. To this end, we define the task of audio de-ID, in which audio spans with entity mentions should be detected. We then present our pipeline for this task, which involves Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), NER on the transcript text, and text-to-audio alignment. Finally, we introduce a novel metric for audio de-ID and a new evaluation benchmark consisting of a large labeled segment of the Switchboard and Fisher audio datasets and detail our pipeline's results on it.

Period spacings of $γ$ Doradus pulsators in the \textit{Kepler} field: Rossby and gravity modes in 82 stars

Rossby modes are the oscillations in a rotating fluid, whose restoring force is the Coriolis force. They provide an additional diagnostic to understand the rotation of stars, which complicates asteroseismic modelling. We report 82 $γ$\,Doradus stars for which clear period spacing patterns of both gravity and Rossby modes have been detected. The period spacings of both show a quasi-linear relation with the pulsation period but the slope is negative for the gravity modes and positive for the Rossby modes. Most Rossby modes have $k=-2, m=-1$. For only one star a series of $k=-1,m=-1$ modes is seen. For each pattern, the mean pulsation period, the mean period spacing, and the slope are measured. We find that the slope correlates with the mean period for Rossby mode patterns. The traditional approximation of rotation is used to measure the near-core rotation rate, assuming the star rotates rigidly. We report the near-core rotation rates, the asymptotic period spacings, and the radial orders of excited modes of these 82 main-sequence stars. The near-core rotation rates lie between $0.6\,\mathrm{d^{-1}}$ and $2.3\,\mathrm{d^{-1}}$. Six stars show surface rotation modulations, among which only KIC\,3341457 shows differential rotation while the other five stars have uniform rotations. The radial orders of excited modes show different distributions for the dipole and quadrupole gravity modes versus the Rossby modes.

Resolving the degeneracy in top quark Yukawa coupling with Higgs pair production

The top quark Yukawa coupling ($y_t$) can be modified by two dimension-six operators $\mathcal{O}_H$ and $\mathcal{O}_y$ with the corresponding Wilson coefficients $c_H$ and $c_y$, whose individual contribution cannot be distinguished by measuring $y_t$ alone. However, such a degeneracy can be resolved with Higgs boson pair production. In this work we explore the potential of resolving the degeneracy of the unknown Wilson coefficients $c_H$ and $c_y$ at the 14~TeV LHC and the 100~TeV hadron colliders. Combining the information of the single Higgs production, $t\bar{t}h$ associated production and Higgs pair production, the individual contribution of $c_H$ and $c_y$ to $y_t$ can be separated. Regardless of the value of $c_H$, the Higgs pair production can give a strong constraint on $c_y$ at the 100 TeV hadron collider. We further show that it is possible to differentiate various $c_y$ and $c_t$ values predicted in several benchmark models.
