Superconductivity at 25 K in hole doped $(La_{1-x}Sr_x)OFeAs$

By partially substituting the tri-valence element La with di-valence element Sr in $LaOFeAs$, we introduced holes into the system. For the first time, we successfully synthesized the hole doped new superconductors $(La_{1-x}Sr_x)OFeAs$. The maximum superconducting transition temperature at about 25 K was observed at a doping level of x = 0.13. It is evidenced by Hall effect measurements that the conduction in this type of material is dominated by hole-like charge carriers, rather than electron-like ones. Together with the data of the electron doped system $La(O_{1-x}F_x)FeAs$, a generic phase diagram is depicted and is revealed to be similar to that of the cuprate superconductors.

Nodal Gap in Fe-Based Layered Superconductor LaO_0.9F_{0.1-delta}FeAs Probed by Specific Heat Measurements

We report the specific heat measurements on the newly discovered Fe-based layered superconductor LaO_0.9F_{0.1-delta}FeAs with the onset transition temperature T_c \approx 28 K. A nonlinear magnetic field dependence of the electronic specific heat coefficient gamma(H) has been found in the low temperature limit, which is consistent with the prediction for a nodal superconductor. The maximum gap value Delta_0 \approx 3.4$\pm$0.5 meV was derived by analyzing gamma(H) based on the d-wave model. We also detected the electronic specific heat difference between 9 T and 0 T in wide temperature region, a specific heat anomaly can be clearly observed near T_c. The Debye temperature of our sample was determined to be about 315.7 K. Our results suggest an unconventional mechanism for this new superconductor.

Quantum spin correlations through the superconducting-normal phase transition in electron-doped superconducting Pr0.88LaCe0.12CuO4-d

The quantum spin fluctuations of the S = 1/2 Cu ions are important in determining the physical properties of the high-transition temperature (high-Tc) copper oxide superconductors, but their possible role in the electron pairing for superconductivity remains an open question. The principal feature of the spin fluctuations in optimally doped high-Tc superconductors is a well defined magnetic resonance whose energy (Er) tracks Tc (as the composition is varied) and whose intensity develops like an order parameter in the superconducting state. We show that the suppression of superconductivity and its associated condensation energy by a magnetic field in the electron-doped high-Tc superconductor, Pr0.88LaCe0.12CuO4-d (Tc = 24 K), is accompanied by the complete suppression of the resonance and the concomitant emergence of static antiferromagnetic (AF) order. Our results demonstrate that the resonance is intimately related to the superconducting condensation energy, and thus suggest that it plays a role in the electron pairing and superconductivity.

Nodeless Superconductivity in the Noncentrosymmetric Superconductor $Mg_{10}Ir_{19}B_{16}$

We measured the resistivity, diamagnetization and low temperature specific heat of the newly discovered noncentrosymmetric superconductor $Mg_{10}Ir_{19}B_{16}$. It is found that the superconducting gap has an s-wave symmetry with a value of about $Δ_0 \approx$ 0.6 meV, and the ratio $Δ_0/k_BT_c\approx1.86$ indicates a weak coupling for the superconductivity. The correlations among the normal state Sommerfeld constant $γ_n$, the slope $-dμ_0H_{c2}(T)/dT$ near Tc and the condensation energy Ec are all consistent with the weak coupling picture. The separated phonon contribution from the specific heat shows that the conduction electrons of the $Ir$ atoms interact most strongly with the vibrations of themselves, instead of with that of the light element boron.
