Soft X-ray emissions of Si IX in Procyon

An analysis of $n=3 \to 2$ transition lines of carbon-like silicon reveals that some ratios of line intensities are sensitive to the electron density. The ratio between two group of $3d\to2p$ transition lines at 55.246 Åand 55.346 Åis a good $n_{\rm e}$-diagnostic technique, due to its insensitivity to the electron temperature. Using this property, a lower limit of the density of 0.6$\times10^8$cm$^{-3}$ is derived for Procyon, which is consistent with that constrained by C V and Si X emissions. Significant discrepancies in ratios of $3s\to2p$ lines to $3d\to2p$ lines between theoretical predictions and observed values, are found, by the spectral analysis of Procyon observed with the {\it Chandra} High Resolution Transmission Grating spectra. The difference exceeding a factor of 3, cannot be explained by the uncertainty of atomic data. The opacity effect is also not a choice as reported by Ness and co-workers. For the $3s\to2p$ line at 61.611 Å, present work indicates that the large discrepancy may be due to the contamination from a S VIII line at 61.645 Å. For the lines at 61.702 and 61.846 Å, we suggest that the discrepancies may be attributed to contaminations of unknown lines.

Excited Field of Particle in Quantum Theory

A model about excited field of a particle is discussed. We found this model will give wave-particle duality clearly and its Lagrangian is consistent with Quantum Theory. A new interpretation of quantum mechanics but not statistical interpretation[1] is presented.

Non-LTE Analysis for the Sodium Abundances of Metal-Poor Stars in the Galactic Disk and Halo

We performed an extensive non-LTE analysis of the neutral sodium lines of Na {\sc i} 5683/5688, 5890/5896, 6154/6161, and 8183/8195 for disk/halo stars of F--K type covering a wide metallicity range ($-4 \la$ [Fe/H] $\la 0.4$), based on our own data as well as those collected from the literature. For comparatively metal-rich disk stars ($-1 \la$ [Fe/H] $\la 0$) where the weaker 6154/6161 lines are best abundance indicators, we confirmed [Na/Fe] $\sim$ 0 with an ``upturn'' (i.e., a shallow/broad dip around $-0.5 \la$ [Fe/H] $\la 0$) as already reported by previous studies. Regarding the metal-deficient halo stars, where the much stronger 5890/5896 or 8183/8195 lines suffering considerable (negative) non-LTE corrections amounting to 0.5 dex have to be used, our analysis suggests mildly ``subsolar'' [Na/Fe] values down to $\sim -0.4$ (with a somewhat large scatter of $\sim \pm 0.2$ dex) on the average at the typical halo metallicity of [Fe/H] $\sim -2$, while they appear to rise again toward a very metal-poor regime recovering a near-solar ratio of [Na/Fe] $\sim$ 0 ([Fe/H] $\sim -3$ to -4). These results are discussed in comparison with the previous observational studies along with the theoretical predictions from the available chemical evolution models.

A Model of Quantum Field Theory with Inter Source

By putting a confined inter source, we construct a model which can give us convergent solution from free field equation. On the other hand, the solution of new field equation can be separated into two parts, one part is just same as the one in Quantum Field Theory and make it survived in this model, and the other part, which we will see doesn't take energy and momentum, just gives us a negative propagator which can soften quadratic divergence.

Modelling the Astronomical Silicate Features: I. On the Spectrum Subtraction Method

The {\it assumption of additive absorptivity} by different components in compound particles is a widely used method applied in the literature to the analysis of the chemical and structural properties of astronomical (circumstellar, interstellar, protostellar, and cometary) silicates as well as other materials. The errors intrinsic in this additivity assumption, which, in application to astronomical spectra, amounts in some case to {\it spectrum subtraction} have not always been adequately considered in previous works on silicate mineralogy. The failings in the ``{\it spectrum subtraction method''} (intrinsically the same as the additive absorptivity assumption) are discussed here in terms of silicate core-ice mantle grains with various shapes. It is shown that these assumptions result in substantial errors for spherical grains. For spheroidal grains, the errors are less significant and the spectrum subtraction method can be used to remove the ice mantle effects. It is demonstrated that there is no significant improvement by considering a distribution of spheroidal shapes. It is further shown that the presence of additional organic mantles substantially modifies the silicate mineralogy interpretation.

On the Abundance of Potassium in Metal-Poor Stars

Based on extensive statistical-equilibrium calculations, we performed a non-LTE analysis of the K {\sc i} 7699 equivalent-width data of metal-deficient stars for the purpose of clarifying the behavior of the photospheric potassium abundance in disk/halo stars. While the resulting non-LTE abundance corrections turned out to be considerably large, amounting to 0.2--0.7 dex, their effect on the [K/Fe] vs. [Fe/H] relation is not very important, since these corrections do not show any significant metallicity dependence. Hence, we again confirmed the results of previous LTE studies, that [K/Fe] shows a gradual systematic increase toward a lowered metallicity up to [K/Fe] $\sim$ 0.3--0.5 at [Fe/H] $\sim$ -1 to -2, such as in the case of $α$ elements.

Explanation of Quantum Mechanics

By assuming that the kinetic energy,potential energy,momentum,and some other physical quantities of a particle exist in the field out of the particle,the Schrodinger equation is an equation describing field of a particle,but not the particle itself.

Non-Spectator Diquark Effects on Lifetimes of Λ_b, Ω_{b}^{(*)} and Weak Decay Rates of Σ_{b}^{(*)}, Ξ_{b}^{(*)}

The difference of τ_{_B} and τ_{_{Λ_b}} indicates the role of the light flavors. We calculate the lifetimes of B-meson and Λ_b based on the weak effective Hamiltonian while assuming the heavy baryon is constructed by a heavy b-quark and a diquark containing two light quarks. In this scenario, we use the information of the measured ratio τ_{_{Λ_b}}/τ_{_B} as input to predict rates of the inclusive weak decays of Σ_{b}^{(*)} and Ξ_{b}^{(*)} into non-bottom final states. We find that these rates of Σ_{b}^{(*)} and Ξ_{b}^{(*)} are much larger than that of B-mesons and Λ_b. We also give the predictions for the lifetimes of Ω_b and Ω_{b}^{*}. Phenomenological implication of our result is discussed.

Non-Spectator Contributions to Inclusive Charmless $B$ Decays

The light quarks inside $B$ mesons are usually treated as spectators and do not affect the decay rates which are assumed to be purely due to b quark decays. In this paper we calculate the non-spectator contributions to inclusive charmless $B$ decays due to the spectator effects. We find that the non-spectator contributions to the branching ratio for $\bar B^0$ are small ($<2\times 10^{-4}$), but the contributions to $ΔS = 0$ and $ΔS = -1$, $B^-$ decay branching ratios can be as large as $-7.5\times 10^{-4}$ and $2\times 10^{-3}$, respectively. These contributions may play an important role in rare charmless $B$ decays.
