Modulation of anomalous Hall angle in a magnetic topological semimetal

The anomalous Hall angle (θA) is a measure of the efficiency of converting a longitudinal driving current to a transverse spin-polarized Hall current. For anomalous Hall sensing, a large anomalous Hall angle can improve the sensitivity of magnetic field detection. However, modulation of this angle is challenging and magnetic materials typically have low angles of 0.1 to 3°. Here, we report modulation of the anomalous Hall angle in the magnetic Weyl semimetal Co3Sn2S2. We propose that the angle parameter tanθA can be formulated as a function of the product of electrical resistivity and anomalous Hall conductivity. Our scheme was utilized to demonstrate the modulation of tanθA up to a magnitude of 0.46, corresponding to an angle of around 25°. Microfabricated anomalous Hall devices using Fe-doped Co3Sn2S2 single-crystalline nanoflakes exhibit a high Hall sensitivity of 7028 μΩucm/T and a magnetic field detectability of 23.5 nT/Hz0.5 at 1 Hz.

Observation and Modulation of the Quantum Mpemba Effect on a Superconducting Quantum Processor

In non-equilibrium quantum systems, the quantum Mpemba effect (QME) emerges as a counterintuitive phenomenon: systems exhibiting greater initial symmetry breaking restore symmetry faster. It has been attracting broad interest in studying QME dynamics and potential applications in quantum information science. While theoretical exploration of QME has surged, experimental studies, specifically on its flexible modulation, remain limited. Here, we report the observation and modulation of QME using a superconducting processor featuring an all-to-all connected, tunable-coupling architecture that enables precise control from short- to long-range interactions. This platform allows independent manipulation of coupling regimes, on-site potentials, and initial states, enabling us to elucidate their roles in QME. To quantify symmetry restoration, we employ entanglement asymmetry (EA), derived from the reconstructed density matrix via quantum state tomography, as a sensitive probe. In strong short-range coupling regimes, EA crossovers during quenches from tilted Néel states confirm the presence of QME. In contrast, in intermediate coupling regimes, synchronized EA and entanglement entropy dynamics reveal the suppression of QME. Remarkably, QME reemerges with the introduction of on-site linear potentials or quenches from tilted ferromagnetic states, the latter proving robust against on-site disorder. Our study demonstrates flexible QME modulation on a superconducting platform with multiple controllable parameters, shedding light on quantum many-body non-equilibrium dynamics and opening avenues for quantum information applications.

Giant photon-drag-induced ultrafast photocurrent in diamond for nonlinear photonics

Diamond is emerging as an attractive third-generation wide-bandgap semiconductor for future on-chip nonlinear photonics and quantum optics due to its unique thermal, optical, and mechanical properties. However, the light-driven current under below-bandgap excitation from the second-order nonlinear optical effect in diamond is still challenging. Herein, a giant second-order nonlinear photocurrent is observed in the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) diamond by utilizing terahertz (THz) emission spectroscopy. This ultrafast photocurrent originates from the photon drag effect (PDE), during which the momentum transfer from the incident photons to the charge carriers at the rich grain boundaries of the CVD diamond after the exclusive subgap π-π* transition upon femtosecond laser excitation. Especially, the interplay between circular and linear PDE to the THz generation has been clarified and distinguished under elliptically polarized light excitation. Furthermore, the picosecond ultrafast dynamics of these charge carriers are also verified by the infrared spectroscopy. Owing to the giant photon-drag-induced ultrafast photocurrent, the CVD diamond presents the highest THz emission efficiency compared with the reported carbon allotropes, which expands the new functionality of diamond nonlinear photonics into on-chip THz devices.

Dynamical-Invariant-based Holonomic Quantum Gates: Theory and Experiment

Among existing approaches to holonomic quantum computing, the adiabatic holonomic quantum gates (HQGs) suffer errors due to decoherence, while the non-adiabatic HQGs either require additional Hilbert spaces or are difficult to scale. Here, we report a systematic, scalable approach based on dynamical invariants to realize HQGs without using additional Hilbert spaces. While presenting the theoretical framework of our approach, we design and experimentally evaluate single-qubit and two-qubits HQGs for the nuclear magnetic resonance system. The single-qubit gates acquire average fidelity 0.9972 by randomized benchmarking, and the controlled-NOT gate acquires fidelity 0.9782 by quantum process tomography. Our approach is also platform-independent, and thus may open a way to large-scale holonomic quantum computation.

Observing information backflow from controllable non-Markovian multi-channels in diamond

Any realistic quantum system is inevitably subject to an external environment. This environment makes the open-system dynamics significant for many quantum tech-nologies, such as entangled-state engineering, quantum simulation, and quantum sensing. The information flow of a system to its environment usually induces a Markovian process, while the backflow of information from the environment exhibits non-Markovianity. The practical environment, usually consisting of a large number of degrees of freedom, is hard to control, despite some attempts on controllable transitions from Markovian to non-Markovian dynamics. Here, we experimentally demonstrate the engineering of multiple dissipative channels by controlling the adjacent nuclear spins of a nitrogen-vacancy centre in diamond. With a controllable non-Markovian dynamics of the open system, we observe that the quantum Fisher information flows to and from the environment using different noisy channels. Our work contributes to the developments of both noisy quantum metrology and quantum open systems from the view points of metrologically useful entanglement.
