Pulsation Properties of Blazhko and Non-Blazhko RRab Stars

In this study, we conduct a comparative analysis of the properties of Blazhko and non-Blazhko RRab stars. We identified 1054 non-Blazhko and 785 Blazhko RRab stars in the photometric data observed by K2 mission, which, combined with those 37 stars observed in the original Kepler field, constituted our study sample. Using the Fourier Decomposition method, we calculated the pulsation parameters, including phase differences and amplitude ratios, for these RRab stars, revealing significant discrepancies in the pulsation parameters between Blazhko and non-Blazhko RRab stars. However, distinguishing between Blazhko and Non-Blazhko RRab stars based on Fourier parameters remains challenging due to the significant overlap in their distributions. By cross-matching our sample with the LRS of LAMOST DR12, we identified 147 Blazhko and 111 non-Blazhko RRab stars, which exhibit similar metallicity distributions. Furthermore, cross-matching with Gaia DR3 data yielded 766 Blazhko and 950 non-Blazhko RRab stars, showing differences in color indices but not in absolute magnitudes. Our findings suggested the Blazhko effect is linked to pulsation parameters and colors, rather than metallicities or absolute magnitude.

Asteroseismological analysis of the non-Blazhko RRab star EPIC~248846335 in LAMOST -- Kepler$/$ K2 project

We conduct an asteroseismological analysis on the non-Blazhko ab-type RR Lyrae star EPIC 248846335 employing the Radial Stellar Pulsations (RSP) module of the Modules for Experiments in Stellar Astrophysics (MESA) based on the set of stellar parameters. The atmospheric parameters as $T_\mathrm{eff}$ = 6933$\pm$70 $K$, log $g$ = 3.35$\pm$ 0.50 and [Fe/H] = -1.18 $\pm$ 0.14 are estimated from the Low-Resolution Spectra of LAMOST DR9. The luminosity $L$ = 49.70$_{-1.80}^{+2.99}$ $L_\odot$ and mass M = 0.56 $\pm$ 0.07 $M_\odot$ are calculated, respectively, using the distance provided by Gaia and the metallicity estimated from the Low-Resolution Spectra. The Fourier parameters of the light curves observed by $K2$ and RV curves determined from the Medium-Resolution Spectra of LAMOST DR10 are also calculated in this work. The period of the fundamental mode of the star and the residuals $r$ of the Fourier parameters between the models and observations serve to select optimal model, whose stellar parameters are $T_\mathrm{eff}$ = 6700 $\pm$ 220 K, log $g$ = 2.70, [Fe/H] = -1.20 $\pm$ 0.2, M = 0.59 $\pm$ 0.05 $M_\odot$, and $L$ = 56.0 $\pm$ 4.2 $L_\odot$. The projection factors are constrained as 1.20 $\pm$ 0.02 and 1.59 $\pm$ 0.13 by the blue- and red-arm observed velocities with their corresponding RV curves derived from the best-fit model, respectively. The precise determination of stellar parameters in ab-type RR Lyrae stars is crucial for understanding the physical processes that occur during pulsation and for providing a deeper understanding of its Period-Luminosity relationship.

The Stellar "Snake" -- II: The Mass Function

We present a comprehensive investigation on the mass function (MF) of a snake-like stellar structure in the solar neighbourhood, building on our previous discovery. To ensure the reliability of the data, we reselect the member stars of the Stellar ``Snake'' in the latest {\it Gaia} Data Release 3 using the same approach as the initial series of articles. We also precisely measure the physical parameters of the clusters within the Stellar Snake. In light of the high completeness of the member stars in the cluster regions, we develop a simulated model color-magnitude diagram-based inference method to derive the mass function, binary fraction, and mass-ratio distribution of the clusters in the Stellar Snake. Notably, despite their similar ages and metallicity, we discover systematic variations in the MFs along the elongation direction of the Snake in the mass range of 0.5 to 2.0 M$_\odot$. The ``head'' of the Snake conforms to a canonical initial mass function with a power-law slope of $α\sim-2.3$. Extending towards the ``tail,'' the MF becomes more top-light, indicating a deficiency of massive stars within these clusters. This result provides evidence for the delayed formation of massive stars in the clusters. Such clues give support to the hypothesis that the Stellar Snake constitutes as a hierarchically primordial structure.

Discovery of two rotational modulation periods from a young hierarchical triple system

GW~Ori is a young hierarchical triple system located in $λ$ Orionis, consisting of a binary (GW~Ori\,A and B), a tertiary star (GW~Ori\,C) and a rare circumtriple disk. Due to the limited data with poor accuracy, several short-period signals were detected in this system, but the values from different studies are not fully consistent. As one of the most successful transiting surveys, the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) provides an unprecedented opportunity to make a comprehensive periodic analysis of GW~Ori. In this work we discover two significant modulation signals by analyzing the light curves of GW~Ori's four observations from TESS, i.e., 3.02 $\pm$ 0.15\,d and 1.92 $\pm$ 0.06\,d, which are very likely to be the rotational periods caused by starspot modulation on the primary and secondary components, respectively. We calculate the inclinations of GW~Ori\,A and B according to the two rotational periods. The results suggest that the rotational plane of GW~Ori\,A and B and the orbital plane of the binary are almost coplanar. We also discuss the aperiodic features in the light curves; these may be related to unstable accretion. The light curves of GW~Ori also include a third (possible) modulation signal with a period of 2.51$\pm$0.09\,d, but the third is neither quite stable nor statistically significant.

Photometric metallicity and distance estimates for $\sim$ 136,000 RR Lyrae stars from Gaia DR3

We present a sample of 135,873 RR Lyrae stars (RRLs) with precise photometric-metallicity and distance estimates from our newly calibrated $P-ϕ_{31}-R_{21}-$[Fe/H]/$P-R_{21}-$[Fe/H] and $G$ band absolute magnitude-metallicity relations. The $P-ϕ_{31}-R_{21}-$[Fe/H] and $P-R_{21}-$[Fe/H] relations for type RRab and type RRc stars are obtained from nearly 2700 Gaia-identified RRLs with precise $ϕ_{31}$ and $R_{21}$ measurements from the light curves and metallicity estimates from spectroscopy. Using 236 nearby RRLs with accurate distances estimated from parallax measurements with Gaia EDR3, new $G$ band absolute magnitude-metallicity relations and near-infrared period-absolute magnitude-metallicity relations are constructed. External checks, using other high-resolution spectroscopic sample of field RRLs and RRL members of globular clusters (GCs), show that the typical uncertainties in our photometric-metallicity estimates are about 0.24 and 0.16 dex for type RRab/c stars, respectively, without significant systematic bias with respect to high-resolution spectroscopic metallicity measurements. The accuracies of these metallicity estimates are much improved, especially for RRab stars, when compared to those provided by the Gaia DR3 release. Validations of our distance estimates, again by using members of GCs, show that the typical distance errors are only 3-4%. The distance modulus $μ_0=18.503\pm0.001(stat)\pm0.040(syst)$ mag for the LMC and $μ_0=19.030\pm0.003(stat)\pm0.043(syst)$ mag for the SMC are estimated from our RRab sample, respectively, and are in excellent agreement with previous measurements. The mean metallicities of the LMC and SMC derived in this work are also consistent with the previous determinations. Using our sample, a steep metallicity gradient of $-0.024\pm0.001$ dex/kpc is found for the LMC, while a negligible metallicity gradient is obtained for the SMC.

The Stellar "Snake" I: Whole Structure and Properties

To complement our previous discovery of the young snake-like structure in the solar neighborhood and reveal the structure's full extent, we build two samples of stars within the Snake and its surrounding territory from {\tt Gaia EDR3}. With the friends-of-friends algorithm, we identify 2694 and 9615 Snake member candidates from the two samples. Thirteen open clusters are embedded in these member candidates. By combining the spectroscopic data from multiple surveys, we investigate the comprehensive properties of the candidates and find that they \thj{are very likely to} belong to one sizable structure, since most of the components are well bridged in their spatial distributions, and follow a single stellar population with an age of $30-40$\,Myr and solar metallicity. This sizable structure is best explained as hierarchically primordial, and probably formed from a filamentary giant molecular cloud with unique formation history in localized regions. To analyze the dynamics of the Snake, we divide the structure into five groups according to their tangential velocities; we find that the groups are expanding at a coherent rate ($κ_X\sim3.0\,\times10^{-2}\,\rm km\,s^{-1}\,pc^{-1}$) along the length of the structure ($X$-direction). \thj{The corresponding expansion age ($τ\sim33$\,Myr) is highly consistent with the age of the Snake}. With over ten thousand member stars, the Snake is an ideal laboratory to study nearby coeval stellar formation, stellar physics, and environmental evolution over a large spatial extent.

Precise Ages of Field Stars From White Dwarf Companions in Gaia DR2

We analyze 4\,050 wide binary star systems involving a white dwarf (WD) and usually a main sequence (MS) star, drawn from the large sample assembled by \citet[][hereafter, T20]{Tian_2020}. Using the modeling code BASE-9, we determine the system's ages, the WD progenitors' ZAMS masses, the extinction values ($A_V$), and the distance moduli. Discarding the cases with poor age convergences, we obtain ages for 3\,551 WDs, with a median age precision of $σ_τ/τ= 20$\%, and system ages typically in the range of 1-6 Gyr. We validated these ages against the very few known clusters and through cross-validation of 236 WD-WD binaries. Under the assumption that the components are co-eval in a binary system, this provides precise age constraints on the usually low-mass MS companions, mostly inaccessible by any other means.

Mapping the emission line strengths and kinematics of Supernova Remnant S147 with extensive LAMOST spectroscopic observations

We present extensive spectroscopic observations of supernova remnant (SNR) S147 collected with the Large sky Area Multi-Object fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST). The spectra were carefully sky-subtracted taking into account the complex filamentary structure of S147. We have utilized all available LAMOST spectra toward S147, including sky and stellar spectra. By measuring the prominent optical emission lines including Hα, [NII]λ6584, and [SII]λλ6717,6731, we present maps of radial velocity and line intensity ratio covering the whole nebula of S147 with unprecedented detail. The maps spatially correlated well with the complex filamentary structure of S147. For the central 2 deg of S147, the radial velocity varies from -100 to 100 km/s and peaks between ~ 0 and 10 km/s. The intensity ratios of Hα/[SII]λλ6717,6731, [SII]λ6717/λ6731 and Hα/[NII]λ6584 peak at about 0.77, 1.35 and 1.48, respectively, with a scatter of 0.17, 0.19 and 0.37, respectively. The intensity ratios are consistent with the literature values. However, the range of variations of line intensity ratios estimated here and representative of the whole nebula, are larger than previously estimated.
