Robust AC vector sensing at zero magnetic field with pentacene

Quantum sensors based on electronic spins have emerged as powerful probes of microwave-frequency fields. Among other solid-state platforms, spins in molecular crystals offer a range of advantages, from high spin density to functionalization via chemical tunability. Here, we demonstrate microwave vector magnetometry using the photoexcited spin triplet of deuterated pentacene molecules, operating at zero external magnetic field and room temperature. We achieve full three-dimensional microwave field reconstruction by detecting the Rabi frequencies of anisotropic spin-triplet transitions associated with two crystallographic orientations of pentacene in naphthalene crystals. We further introduce a phase alternated protocol that extends the rotating-frame coherence time by an order of magnitude and enables sensitivities of $1~\mu\mathrm{T}/\sqrt{\mathrm{Hz}}$ with sub-micrometer spatial resolution. These results establish pentacene-based molecular spins as a practical and high-performance platform for microwave quantum sensing, and the control techniques are broadly applicable to other molecular and solid-state spin systems.

Disorder-Induced Anomalous Diffusion in a 3D Spin Network

Emergent hydrodynamics (EHD) bridges short-time unitarity with late-time thermodynamics, universal transport phenomena characterize the manner and speed of transport and thermalization. Typical non-integrable systems with few conserved local quantities are expected to be diffusive. In contrast, strongly disordered systems which admit phases such as many-body localization, are predicted to inhibit thermalization and thus slow dynamical transport. Disordered systems represent a uniquely poised platform to probe the quantum-to-classical transition and the emergence of irreversible thermodynamics from the underlying unitary structure. Here, we study a strongly disordered nuclear spin ensemble, using local measurements enabled by the disordered-state technique. We observe an apparent phase transition into a sub-diffusive regime, which we model as a random walk on the emergent fractal structure of a percolating network in the dipolar spin ensemble. Our novel theoretical model provides a framework for characterizing the emergence of thermalization in closed quantum systems, even in the presence of strong disorder.

Frame Change Technique for Phase Transient Cancellation

The precise control of complex quantum mechanical systems can unlock applications ranging from quantum simulation to quantum computation. Controlling strongly interacting many-body systems often relies on Floquet Hamiltonian engineering that is achieved by fast switching between Hamiltonian primitives via external control. For example, in our solid-state NMR system, we perform quantum simulation by modulating the natural Hamiltonian with control pulses. As the Floquet heating errors scale with the interpulse delay, $δt$, it is favorable to keep $δt$ as short as possible, forcing our control pulses to be short duration and high power. Additionally, high-power pulses help to minimize undesirable evolution from occurring during the duration of the pulse. However, such pulses introduce an appreciable phase-transient control error, a form of unitary error. In this work, we detail our ability to diagnose the error, calibrate its magnitude, and correct it for $π/2$-pulses of arbitrary phase. We demonstrate the improvements gained by correcting for the phase transient error, using a method which we call the ``frame-change technique'', in a variety of experimental settings of interest. Given that the correction mechanism adds no real control overhead, we recommend that any resonance probe be checked for these phase transient control errors, and correct them using the frame-change technique.

Strichartz and Multi-linear Estimates for the One-dimensional Periodic Dysthe equation

This paper presents Strichartz estimates for the linearized 1D periodic Dysthe equation on the torus, namely estimate of the $L^6_{x,t}(\mathbb{T}^2)$ norm of the solution in terms of the initial data, and estimate of the $L^4_{x,t}(\mathbb{T}^2)$ norm in terms of the Bourgain space norm. The paper also presents other results such as bilinear and trilinear estimates pertaining to local well-posedness of the 1-dimensional periodic Dysthe equation in a suitable Bourgain space, and ill-posedness results in Sobolev spaces.
