On AGT description of N=2 SCFT with N_f=4

We consider Alday-Gaiotto-Tachikawa (AGT) realization of the Nekrasov partition function of N=2 SCFT. We focus our attention on the SU(2) theory with N_f=4 flavor symmetry, whose partition function, according to AGT, is given by the Liouville four-point function on the sphere. The gauge theory with N_f=4 is known to exhibit SO(8) symmetry. We explain how the Weyl symmetry transformations of SO(8) flavor symmetry are realized in the Liouville theory picture. This is associated to functional properties of the Liouville four-point function that are a priori unexpected. In turn, this can be thought of as a non-trivial consistency check of AGT conjecture. We also make some comments on elementary surface operators and WZW theory.

Asymptotically AdS_3 Solutions to Topologically Massive Gravity at Special Values of the Coupling Constants

We study exact solutions to Cosmological Topologically Massive Gravity (CTMG) coupled to Topologically Massive Electrodynamics (TME) at special values of the coupling constants. For the particular case of the so called chiral point lμ_G=1, vacuum solutions (with vanishing gauge field) are exhibited. These correspond to a one-parameter deformation of GR solutions, and are continuously connected to the extremal Bañados-Teitelboim-Zanelli black hole (BTZ) with bare constants J=-lM. At the chiral point this extremal BTZ turns out to be massless, and thus it can be regarded as a kind of ground state. Although the solution is not asymptotically AdS_3 in the sense of Brown-Henneaux boundary conditions, it does obey the weakened asymptotic recently proposed by Grumiller and Johansson. Consequently, we discuss the holographic computation of the conserved charges in terms of the stress-tensor in the boundary. For the case where the coupling constants satisfy the relation lμ_G=1+2lμ_E, electrically charged analogues to these solutions exist. These solutions are asymptotically AdS_3 in the strongest sense, and correspond to a logarithmic branch of selfdual solutions previously discussed in the literature.

Microscopic entropy of the three-dimensional rotating black hole of BHT massive gravity

Asymptotically AdS rotating black holes for the Bergshoeff-Hohm-Townsend (BHT) massive gravity theory in three dimensions are considered. In the special case when the theory admits a unique maximally symmetric solution, apart from the mass and the angular momentum, the black hole is described by an independent "gravitational hair" parameter, which provides a negative lower bound for the mass. This bound is saturated at the extremal case and, since the temperature and the semiclassical entropy vanish, it is naturally regarded as the ground state. The absence of a global charge associated with the gravitational hair parameter reflects through the first law of thermodynamics in the fact that the variation of this parameter can be consistently reabsorbed by a shift of the global charges, giving further support to consider the extremal case as the ground state. The rotating black hole fits within relaxed asymptotic conditions as compared with the ones of Brown and Henneaux, such that they are invariant under the standard asymptotic symmetries spanned by two copies of the Virasoro generators, and the algebra of the conserved charges acquires a central extension. Then it is shown that Strominger's holographic computation for general relativity can also be extended to the BHT theory; i.e., assuming that the quantum theory could be consistently described by a dual conformal field theory at the boundary, the black hole entropy can be microscopically computed from the asymptotic growth of the number of states according to Cardy's formula, in exact agreement with the semiclassical result.

The Lovelock Black Holes

Lovelock theory is a natural extension of Einstein theory of gravity to higher dimensions, and it is of great interest in theoretical physics as it describes a wide class of models. In particular, it describes string theory inspired ultraviolet corrections to Einstein-Hilbert action, while admits the Einstein general relativiy and the so called Chern-Simons theories of gravity as particular cases. Recently, five-dimensional Lovelock theory has been considered in the literature as a working example to illustrate the effects of including higher-curvature terms in the context of AdS/CFT correspondence. Here, we give an introduction to the black hole solutions of Lovelock theory and analyze their most important properties. These solutions can be regarded as generalizations of the Boulware-Deser solution of Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity, which we discuss in detail here. We briefly discuss some recent progress in understading these and other solutions, like topological black holes that represent black branes of the theory, and vacuum thin-shell wormhole-like geometries that connect two different asymptotically de-Sitter spaces. We also make some comments on solutions with time-like naked singularities.

Topological String on OSP(1|2)/U(1)

We propose an equivalence between topological string on OSP(1|2)/U(1) and \hat{c} \leq 1 superstring with N=1 world-sheet supersymmetry. We examine this by employing a free field representation of OSP(1|2) WZNW model and find an agreement on the spectrum. We also analyze this proposal at the level of scattering amplitudes by applying a map between correlation functions of OSP(1|2) WZNW model and those of N=1 Liouville theory.

Bending AdS Waves with New Massive Gravity

We study AdS-waves in the three-dimensional new theory of massive gravity recently proposed by Bergshoeff, Hohm, and Townsend. The general configuration of this type is derived and shown to exhibit different branches, with different asymptotic behaviors. In particular, for the special fine tuning $m^2=\pm1/(2l^2)$, solutions with logarithmic fall-off arise, while in the range $m^2>-1/(2l^2)$, spacetimes with Schrodinger isometry group are admitted as solutions. Solutions that are asymptotically AdS$_3$, both for Brown-Henneaux and for the weakened boundary conditions, are also identified. The metric function that characterizes the profile of the AdS-wave behaves as a massive excitation on the spacetime, with an effective mass given by $m_{eff}^2=m^2-1/(2l^2)$. For the critical value $m^2=-1/(2l^2)$, the value of the effective mass precisely saturates the Breitenlohner-Freedman bound for the AdS$_3$ space where the wave is propagating on. The analogies with the AdS-wave solutions of topologically massive gravity are also discussed. Besides, we consider the coupling of both massive deformations to Einstein gravity and find the exact configurations for the complete theory, discussing all the different branches exhaustively. One of the effects of introducing the Chern-Simons gravitational term is that of breaking the degeneracy in the effective mass of the generic modes of pure New Massive Gravity, producing a fine structure due to parity violation. Another effect is that the zoo of exact logarithmic specimens becomes considerably enlarged.

Comment on three-point function in AdS(3)/CFT(2)

Recently, exact agreement has been found between bulk and boundary three-point functions in AdS_3 x S^3 x T^4 with NSNS fluxes. This represents a non-trivial check of AdS/CFT correspondence beyond the supergravity approximation as it corresponds to an exact worldsheet computation. When taking a closer look at this computation, one notices that a crucial point for the bulk-boundary agreement to hold is an intriguing mutual cancellation between worldsheet contributions corresponding to the AdS_3 and to the S^3 pieces of the geometry, what results in a simple factorized form for the final three-point function. In this note we review this cancellation and clarify some points about the analytic relation between the SU(2) and the SL(2,R) structure constants. In particular, we dicuss the connection to the Coulomb gas representation. We also make some comments on the four-point function.

Fisher zeros in the Kallen-Lehmann approach to 3D Ising model

The distribution of the Fisher zeros in the Kallen-Lehmann approach to three-dimensional Ising model is studied. It is argued that the presence of a non-trivial angle (a cusp) in the distribution of zeros in the complex temperatures plane near the physical singularity is realized through a strong breaking of the 2D Ising self-duality. Remarkably, the realization of the cusp in the Fisher distribution ultimately leads to an improvement of the results of the Kallen-Lehmann ansatz. In fact, excellent agreement with Monte Carlo predictions both at high and at low temperatures is observed. Besides, agreement between both approaches is found for the predictions of the critical exponent alpha and of the universal amplitude ratio Delta = A_+/A_-, within the 3.5% and 7% of the Monte Carlo predictions, respectively.

A twisted FZZ-like dual for the two-dimensional black hole

We review and study the duality between string theory formulated on a curved exact background (the two dimensional black hole) and string theory in flat space with a tachyon-like potential. We generalize previous results in this subject by discussing a twisted version of the Fateev-Zamolodchikov-Zamolodchikov conjecture. This duality is shown to hold at the level of N-point correlation functions on the sphere topology, and connects tree-level string amplitudes in the Euclidean version of the 2D black hole (x time) to correlation functions in a non-linear sigma-model in flat space but in presence of a tachyon wall potential and a linear dilaton. The dual CFT corresponds to the perturbed 2D quantum gravity coupled to c<1 matter (x time), where the operator that describes the tachyon-like potential can be seen as a n=2 momentum mode perturbation, while the usual sine-Liouville operator would correspond to the vortex sector n =1. We show how the sine-Liouville interaction term arises through a twisting of the marginal deformation introduced here, and discuss such 'twisting' as a non-trivial realization of the symmetries of the theory. After briefly reviewing the computation of correlation functions in sine-Liouville CFT, we give a precise prescription for computing correlation functions in the twisted model. To show the new version of the correspondence we make use of a formula recently proven by S. Ribault and J. Teschner, which connects the correlation functions in the Wess-Zumino-Witten theory to correlation functions in the Liouville theory. Conversely, the duality discussed here can be thought of as a free field realization of such remarkable formula.

Topologically Massive Gravity at the Chiral Point is Not Unitary

A recent paper [arXiv:0801.4566] claims that topologically massive gravity contains only chiral boundary excitations at a particular value of the Chern-Simons coupling. On the other hand, propagating bulk degrees of freedom were found even at the chiral point in [arXiv:0803.3998]. The two references use very different methods, making comparison of their respective claims difficult. In this letter, we use the method of [arXiv:0801.4566] to construct a tower of propagating bulk states satisfying standard AdS boundary conditions. Our states have finite norm, with sign opposite to that of right-moving boundary excitations. Our results thus agree with [arXiv:0803.3998] and disagree with [arXiv:0801.4566].

Langlands duality in Liouville-H_3^+ WZNW correspondence

We show a physical realization of the Langlands duality in correlation functions of H_3^+ WZNW model. We derive a dual version of the Stoyanovky-Riabult-Teschner (SRT) formula that relates the correlation function of the H_3^+ WZNW and the dual Liouville theory to investigate the level duality k-2 \to (k-2)^{-1} in the WZNW correlation functions. Then, we show that such a dual version of the H_3^+ - Liouville relation can be interpreted as a particular case of a biparametric family of non-rational CFTs based on the Liouville correlation functions, which was recently proposed by Ribault. We study symmetries of these new non-rational CFTs and compute correlation functions explicitly by using the free field realization to see how a generalized Langlands duality manifests itself in this framework. Finally, we suggest an interpretation of the SRT formula as realizing the Drinfeld-Sokolov Hamiltonian reduction. Again, the Hamiltonian reduction reveals the Langlands duality in the H_3^+ WZNW model. Our new identity for the correlation functions of H_3^+ WZNW model may yield a first step to understand quantum geometric Langlands correspondence yet to be formulated mathematically.

Spectral Flow in AdS(3)/CFT(2)

We study the spectral flowed sectors of the H3 WZW model in the context of the holographic duality between type IIB string theory in AdS(3)x S^3 x T^4 with NSNS flux and the symmetric product orbifold of T^4. We construct explicitly the physical vertex operators in the flowed sectors that belong to short representations of the superalgebra, thus completing the bulk-to-boundary dictionary for 1/2 BPS states. We perform a partial calculation of the string three-point functions of these operators. A complete calculation would require the three-point couplings of non-extremal flowed operators in the H3 WZW model, which are at present unavailable. In the unflowed sector, perfect agreement has recently been found between the bulk and boundary three-point functions of 1/2 BPS operators. Assuming that this agreement persists in the flowed sectors, we determine certain unknown three-point couplings in the H3 WZW model in terms of three-point couplings of affine descendants in the SU(2) WZW model.

Toric G_2 and Spin(7) holonomy spaces from gravitational instantons and other examples

Non-compact G_2 holonomy metrics that arise from a T^2 bundle over a hyper-Kahler space are discussed. These are one parameter deformations of the metrics studied by Gibbons, Lu, Pope and Stelle in hep-th/0108191. Seven-dimensional spaces with G_2 holonomy fibered over the Taub-Nut and the Eguchi-Hanson gravitational instantons are found, together with other examples. By considering the Apostolov-Salamon theorem math.DG/0303197, we construct a new example that, still being a T^2 bundle over hyper-Kahler, represents a non trivial two parameter deformation of the metrics studied in hep-th/0108191. We then review the Spin(7) metrics arising from a T^3 bundle over a hyper-Kahler and we find two parameter deformation of such spaces as well. We show that if the hyper-Kahler base satisfies certain properties, a non trivial three parameter deformations is also possible. The relation between these spaces with the half-flat structures and almost G_2 holonomy spaces is briefly discussed.

A Note on Z_2 Symmetries of the KZ Equation

We continue the study of hidden Z_2 symmetries of the four-point sl(2)_k Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equation iniciated in hep-th/0508019. Here, we focus our attention on the four-point correlation function in those cases where one spectral flowed state of the sector w=1 is involved. We give a formula that shows how this observable can be expressed in terms of the four-point function of non spectral flowed states. This means that the formula holding for the winding violating four-string scattering processes in AdS_3 has a simple expression in terms of the one for the conservative case, generalizing what is known for the case of three-point functions, where the violating and the non-violating structure constants turn out to be connected one to each other in a similar way. What makes this connection particularly simple is the fact that, unlike what one would naively expect, it is not necessary to explicitly solve the five-point function containing a single spectral flow operator to this end. Instead, non diagonal functional relations between different solutions of the KZ equation turn out to be the key point for this short path to exist. Considering such functional relation is necessary but it is not sufficient; besides, the formula also follows from the relation existing between correlators in both WZNW and Liouville conformal theories.

Surveying the Three-Dimensional Fixed Points of T-Duality

We explore the family of fixed points of T-Duality transformations in three dimensions. For the simplest nontrivial self-duality conditions it is possible to show that, additionally to the spacelike isometry in which the T-Duality transformation is performed, these backgrounds must be necessarily stationary. This allows to prove that for nontrivial string coupling, the low energy bosonic string backgrounds which are additionally self-T-dual along an isometry direction generated by a constant norm Killing vector are uniquely described by a two-parametric class, including only three nonsingular cases: the charged black string, the exact gravitational wave propagating along the extremal black string, and the flat space with a linear dilaton. Besides, for constant string coupling, the only self-T-dual lower energy string background under the same assumptions corresponds to the Coussaert-Henneaux spacetime. Thus, we identify minimum criteria that yield a classification of these quoted examples and only these. All these T-dual fixed points describe exact backgrounds of string theory.

The String Theory on AdS_3 as a Marginal Deformation of a Linear Dilaton Background

We investigate N-point string scattering amplitudes in AdS_3 space. Based on recent observations on the solutions of KZ and BPZ-type differential equations, we discuss how to describe the string theory in AdS_3 as a marginal deformation of a (flat) linear dilaton background. This representation resembles the called "discrete light-cone Liouville" realization as well as the FZZ dual description in terms of the sine-Liouville field theory. Consequently, the connection and differences between those and this realization are discussed. The free field representation presented here permits to understand the relation between correlators in both Liouville and WZNW theories in a very simple way. Within this framework, we discuss the spectrum and interactions of strings in Lorentzian AdS_3.

Simple compactifications and Black p-branes in Gauss-Bonnet and Lovelock Theories

We look for the existence of asymptotically flat simple compactifications of the form $M_{D-p}\times T^{p}$ in $D$-dimensional gravity theories with higher powers of the curvature. Assuming the manifold $M_{D-p}$ to be spherically symmetric, it is shown that the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory admits this class of solutions only for the pure Einstein-Hilbert or Gauss-Bonnet Lagrangians, but not for an arbitrary linear combination of them. Once these special cases have been selected, the requirement of spherical symmetry is no longer relevant since actually any solution of the pure Einstein or pure Gauss-Bonnet theories can then be toroidally extended to higher dimensions. Depending on $p$ and the spacetime dimension, the metric on $M_{D-p}$ may describe a black hole or a spacetime with a conical singularity, so that the whole spacetime describes a black or a cosmic $p$-brane, respectively. For the purely Gauss-Bonnet theory it is shown that, if $M_{D-p}$ is four-dimensional, a new exotic class of black hole solutions exists, for which spherical symmetry can be relaxed. Under the same assumptions, it is also shown that simple compactifications acquire a similar structure for a wide class of theories among the Lovelock family which accepts this toroidal extension. The thermodynamics of black $p$-branes is also discussed, and it is shown that a thermodynamical analogue of the Gregory-Laflamme transition always occurs regardless the spacetime dimension or the theory considered, hence not only for General Relativity. Relaxing the asymptotically flat behavior, it is also shown that exact black brane solutions exist within a very special class of Lovelock theories.

Three-Point Function in Perturbed Liouville Gravity

Three-point correlation function in perturbed conformal field theory coupled to two-dimensional quantum gravity (perturbed Liouville gravity) is explicitly computed by using the free field approach. The representation considered here is the one recently proposed in hep-th/0511252 to describe the string theory in AdS_3 space. Consequently, this computation extends previous results which presented free field calculations of particular cases of string amplitudes, and confirms that the free field approach leads to the exact result. Remarkably, this representation allows to compute winding violating three-point functions without making use of the spectral flow operator.
