Global martingale solutions for a stochastic Shigesada-Kawasaki-Teramoto population model

The existence of global nonnegative martingale solutions to a cross-diffusion system of Shigesada-Kawasaki-Teramoto type with multiplicative noise is proven. The model describes the segregation dynamics of populations with an arbitrary number of species. The diffusion matrix is generally neither symmetric nor positive semidefinite, which excludes standard methods. Instead, the existence proof is based on the entropy structure of the model, approximated by a Wong-Zakai argument, and on suitable higher moment estimates and fractional time regularity. In the case without self-diffusion, the lack of regularity is overcome by carefully exploiting the entropy production terms.

Global martingale solutions for quasilinear SPDEs via the boundedness-by-entropy method

The existence of global-in-time bounded martingale solutions to a general class of cross-diffusion systems with multiplicative Stratonovich noise is proved. The equations describe multicomponent systems from physics or biology with volume-filling effects and possess a formal gradient-flow or entropy structure. This structure allows for the derivation of almost surely positive lower and upper bounds for the stochastic processes. The existence result holds under some assumptions on the interplay between the entropy density and the multiplicative noise terms. The proof is based on a stochastic Galerkin method, a Wong--Zakai type approximation of the Wiener process, the boundedness-by-entropy method, and the tightness criterion of Brzeźniak and coworkers. Three-species Maxwell--Stefan systems and $n$-species biofilm models are examples that satisfy the general assumptions.

On the equivalence of pathwise mild and weak solutions for quasilinear SPDEs

The main goal of this work is to relate weak and pathwise mild solutions for parabolic quasilinear stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs). Extending in a suitable way techniques from the theory of nonautonomous semilinear SPDEs to the quasilinear case, we prove the equivalence of these two solution concepts.

Stochastic Navier--Stokes equations on a 3D thin domain

Stochastic Navier--Stokes equations in a thin three-dimensional domain are considered, driven by additive noise. The convergence of martingale solution of the stochastic Navier--Stokes equations in a thin three-dimensional domain to the unique martingale solution of the 2D stochastic Navier--Stokes equations, as the thickness of the film vanishes, is established. Hence, we justify the approximation of 3D Navier--Stokes equations driven by random forcing by its corresponding two-dimensional setting in applications.

Stochastic Navier-Stokes equations on a thin spherical domain

Incompressible Navier-Stokes equations on a thin spherical domain $Q_\varepsilon$ along with free boundary conditions under a random forcing are considered. The convergence of the martingale solution of these equations to the martingale solution of the stochastic Navier-Stokes equations on a sphere $\mathbb{S}^2$ as the thickness converges to zero is established.

Stochastic tamed Navier-Stokes equations on $\mathbb{R}^3$:existence, uniqueness of solution and existence of an invariant measure

Röckner and Zhang in [27] proved the existence of a unique strong solution to a stochastic tamed 3D Navier-Stokes equation in the whole space and for the periodic boundary case using a result from [31]. In the latter case, they also proved the existence of an invariant measure. In this paper, we improve their results (but for a slightly simplified system) using a self-contained approach. In particular, we generalise their result about an estimate on the $L^4-$norm of the solution from the torus to $\mathbb{R}^3$, see Lemma 5.1 and thus establish the existence of an invariant measure on $\mathbb{R}^3$ for a time-homogeneous damped tamed 3D Navier-Stokes equation, given by (6.1).

Global martingale solutions for a stochastic population cross-diffusion system

The existence of global nonnegative martingale solutions to a stochastic cross-diffusion system for an arbitrary but finite number of interacting population species is shown. The random influence of the environment is modeled by a multiplicative noise term. The diffusion matrix is generally neither symmetric nor positive definite, but it possesses a quadratic entropy structure. This structure allows us to work in a Hilbert space framework and to apply a stochastic Galerkin method. The existence proof is based on energy-type estimates, the tightness criterion of Brzeźniak and co-workers, and Jakubowski's generalization of the Skorokhod theorem. The nonnegativity is proved by an extension of Stampacchia's truncation method due to Chekroun, Park, and Temam.

Stochastic Constrained Navier-Stokes Equations on $\mathbb{T}^2$

We study constrained 2-dimensional Navier-Stokes Equations driven by a multiplicative Gaussian noise in the Stratonovich form. In the deterministic case [4] we showed the existence of global solutions only on a two dimensional torus and hence we concentrated on such a case here. We prove the existence of a martingale solution and later using Schmalfuss idea [20] we show the pathwise uniqueness of the solutions. We also establish the existence of a strong solution using a Yamada-Watanabe type result from Ondreját [17].

2D Constrained Navier-Stokes Equations

We study 2D Navier-Stokes equations with a constraint on $L^2$ energy of the solution. We prove the existence and uniqueness of a global solution for the constrained Navier-Stokes equation on $\R^2$ and $\T$, by a fixed point argument. We also show that the solution of constrained Navier-Stokes converges to the solution of Euler equation as viscosity $ν$ vanishes.
