Berezin transforms on noncommutative varieties in polydomains

In this paper, we study noncommutative varieties in polydomains in $B(H)^n$. The goal is to understand the structure of these varieties, determine their elements and classify them up to unitary equivalence. Using noncommutative Berezin transforms associated with each variety, we develop an operator model theory and dilation theory for large classes of varieties in noncommutative polydomains. This includes various commutative cases which are close connected to the theory of holomorphic functions in several complex variables and algebraic geometry.

Berezin transforms on noncommutative polydomains

This paper is an attempt to unify the multivariable operator model theory for ball-like domains and commutative polydiscs, and extend it to a more general class of noncommutative polydomains. An important role in our study is played by noncommutative Berezin transforms associated with the elements of the polydomain.

Unitary invariants on the unit ball of B(H)^n

In this paper, we introduce a unitary invariant $Γ$ defined on the unit ball of $B(H)^n$ in terms of the characteristic function, the noncommutative Poisson kernel, and the defect operator associated with a row contraction. We show that $Γ$ detects the pure row isometries and completely classify them up to a unitary equivalence. We also show that $Γ$ detects the pure row contractions with polynomial characteristic functions and completely non-coisometric row contractions. In particular, we show that any completely non-coisometric row contraction with constant characteristic function is homogeneous. Under a natural topology, we prove that the free holomorphic automorphism group of the unit ball of $B(H)^n$ is a metrizable, $σ$-compact, locally compact group, and provide a concrete unitary projective representation of it in terms of noncommutative Poisson kernels.

Free biholomorphic functions and operator model theory,II

This is a continuation of the paper entitled "Free biholomorphic functions and operator model theory", in our attempt to transfer the free analogue of Nagy-Foias theory from the unit ball $[B(\cH)^n]_1$ to other noncommutative domains and varieties in $B(\cH)^n$, using appropriate maps. The present paper treats the completely non-coisometric case and the case of noncommutative varieties.

Free holomorphic functions and operator model theory

This paper is an attempt to find large classes of noncommutative multivariable functions $g:Ω\subset [B(\cH)^n]_1^-\to B(\cH)^n$ for which a reasonable operator model theory and dilation theory can be developed for the noncommutative domain $g(Ω)$. In other words, we want to transfer the free analogue of Nagy-Foias theory from the unit ball $[B(\cH)^n]_1$ to other noncommutative domains, using appropriate maps.

Free biholomorphic classification of noncommutative domains

In this paper we develop a theory of free holomorphic functions on noncommutative Reinhardt domains generated by positive regular free holomorphic functions in n noncommuting variables. We show that the free biholomorphic classification of these domains is the same as the classification, up to unital completely isometric isomorphisms, of the corresponding noncommutative domain algebras.

Composition operators on noncommutative Hardy spaces

In this paper we initiate the study of composition operators on the noncommutative Hardy space $H^2_{\bf ball}$. Several classical results about composition operators (boundedness, norm estimates, spectral properties, compactness, similarity) have free analogues in our noncommutative multivariable setting. The most prominent feature of this paper is the interaction between the noncommutative analytic function theory in the unit ball of $B(\cH)^n$, the operator algebras generated by the left creation operators on the full Fock space with $n$ generators, and the classical complex function theory in the unit ball of $\CC^n$.

Joint similarity to operators in noncommutative varieties

In this paper we solve several problems concerning joint similarity to n-tuples of operators in noncommutative varieties in $[B(\cH)^n]_1$ associated with positive regular free holomorphic functions in $n$ noncommuting variables and with sets of noncommutative polynomials in $n$ indeterminates, where $B(\cH)$ is the algebra of all bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space $\cH$. In particular, if $f=X_1+...+X_n$ and $\cP=\{0\}$, the elements of the corresponding variety can be seen as noncommutative multivariable analogues of Agler's $m$-hypercontractions.

Noncommutative hyperbolic geometry on the unit ball of $B(H)^n$

In this paper we introduce a hyperbolic distance $δ$ on the noncommutative open ball $[B(H)^n]_1$, where $B(H)$ is the algebra of all bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space $H$, which is a noncommutative extension of the Poincare-Bergman metric on the open unit ball of $C^n$. We prove that $δ$ is invariant under the action of the group $Aut([B(H)^n]_1)$ of all free holomorphic automorphisms of $[B(\cH)^n]_1$, and show that the $δ$-topology and the usual operator norm topology coincide on $[B(H)^n]_1$. Moreover, we prove that $[B(H)^n]_1$ is a complete metric space with respect to the hyperbolic metric and obtained an explicit formula for $δ$ in terms of the reconstruction operator. A Schwarz-Pick lemma for bounded free holomorphic functions on $[B(H)^n]_1$, with respect to the hyperbolic metric, is also obtained.

Free holomorphic functions on the unit ball of B(H)^n. II

In this paper we continue the study of free holomorphic functions on the unit ball of B(H)^n, where B(H) is the algebra of all bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space H. Several classical results from complex analysis have free analogues in our noncommutative setting.

Hyperbolic geometry on noncommutative balls

In this paper, we study the hyperbolic geometry of noncommutative balls generated by the joint operator radius $ω_ρ$, $ρ\in (0,\infty]$, for $n$-tuples of bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space. In particular, $ω_1$ is the operator norm, $ω_2$ is the joint numerical radius, and $ω_\infty$ is the joint spectral radius. We provide mapping theorems, von Neumann inequalities, and Schwarz type lemmas for free holomorphic functions on noncommutative balls, with respect to the hyperbolic metric $δ_ρ$, the Carath\' eodory metric $d_K$, and the joint operator radius $ω_ρ$.

Free holomorphic functions and interpolation

In this paper we obtain a noncommutative multivariable analogue of the classical Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation problem for analytic functions with positive real parts on the open unit disc. As consequences, we deduce some results concerning operator-valued analytic interpolation on the unit ball on C^n.

Noncommutative transforms and free pluriharmonic functions

In this paper, we study free pluriharmonic functions on noncommutative balls, and their boundary behavior. The main tools used in this study are certain noncommutative transforms which are introduced in the present paper and which generalize the classical transforms of Berezin, Poisson, Fantappie, Herglotz, and Cayley. Several classical results from complex analysis have free analogues in our noncommutative multivariable setting.

Hyperbolic geometry on the unit ball of $B(H)^n$ and dilation theory

In this paper we continue our investigation concerning the hyperbolic geometry on the noncommutative ball $[B(H)^n]_1^-$, where $B(H)$ is the algebra of all bounded linear operators on a Hilbert space $H$, and its implications to noncommutative function theory. The central object is an intertwining operator $L_{B,A}$ of the minimal isometric dilations of $A, B\in [B(H)^n]_1^-$, which establishes a strong connection between noncommutative hyperbolic geometry on $[B(H)^n]_1^-$ and multivariable dilation theory. The goal of this paper is to study the operator $L_{B,A}$ and its connections to the hyperbolic metric $δ$ on the Harnack parts of $[B(H)^n]_1^-$. We study the geometric structure of the operator $L_{B,A}$ and obtain new characterizations for the Harnack domination (resp. equivalence) in $[B(H)^n]_1^-$. We express $\|L_{B,A}\|$ in terms of the reconstruction operators $R_A$ and $R_B$, and obtain a Schwartz-Pick lemma for contractive free holomorphic functions on $[B(H)^n]_1$ with respect to the intertwining operator $L_{B,A}$. As a consequence, we deduce a Schwartz-Pick lemma for operator-valued multipliers of the Drury-Arveson space, with respect to the hyperbolic metric.

Free holomorphic automorphisms of the unit ball of $B(H)^n$

The theory of characteristic functions for row contractions is used to determine the group $Aut(B(H)^n_1)$ of all free holomorphic automorphisms of the unit ball of $B(H)^n$. We show that the noncommutative Poisson transform commutes with the action of the automorphism group $Aut(B(H)^n_1)$. This leads to a characterization of the unitarily implemented automorphisms of the Cuntz-Toeplitz algebra $C^*(S_1,..., S_n)$, which leave invariant the noncommutative disc algebra $\cA_n$. This result provides new insight into Voiculescu's group of automorphisms of the Cuntz-Toeplitz algebra and reveals new connections with noncommutative multivariable operator theory, especially, the theory of characteristic functions for row contractions and the noncommutative Poisson transforms. We study the isometric dilations and the characteristic functions of row contractions under the action of the automorphism group $Aut(B(H)^n_1)$. This enables us to obtain some results concerning the behavior of the curvature and the Euler characteristic of a row contraction under $Aut(B(H)^n_1)$. We prove a maximum principle for free holomorphic functions on the noncommutative ball $[B(H)^n]_1$ and provide some extensions of the classical Schwarz lemma to our noncommutative setting.

Free pluriharmonic majorants and noncommutative interpolation

In this paper, we initiate the study of sub-pluriharmonic curves in Cuntz-Toeplitz algebras and free pluriharmonic majorants on noncommutative balls. We are lead to a characterization of the noncommutative Hardy space $H^2_{\bf ball}$ in terms of free pluriharmonic majorants, and to a Schur type description of the unit ball of $H^2_{\bf ball}$. These results are used to solve a multivariable commutant lifting problem and provide a description of all solutions.
