Broadcasting in Heterogeneous Tree Networks with Edge Weight Uncertainty

A broadcasting problem in heterogeneous tree networks with edge weight uncertainty under the postal model is considered in this paper. The broadcasting problem asks for a minmax-regret broadcast center, which minimizes the worst-case loss in the objective function. Due to the presence of edge weight uncertainty, it is not easy to attack the broadcasting problem. An $O(n \log n \log \log n)$-time algorithm is proposed for solving the broadcasting problem.

Locally connected spanning trees on graphs

A locally connected spanning tree of a graph $G$ is a spanning tree $T$ of $G$ such that the set of all neighbors of $v$ in $T$ induces a connected subgraph of $G$ for every $v\in V(G)$. The purpose of this paper is to give linear-time algorithms for finding locally connected spanning trees on strongly chordal graphs and proper circular-arc graphs, respectively.

Diagnosabilities of regular networks

In this paper, we study diagnosabilities of multiprocessor systems under two diagnosis models: the PMC model and the comparison model. In each model, we further consider two different diagnosis strategies: the precise diagnosis strategy proposed by Preparata et al. and the pessimistic diagnosis strategy proposed by Friedman. The main result of this paper is to determine diagnosabilities of regular networks with certain conditions, which include several widely used multiprocessor systems such as variants of hypercubes and many others.

Optimal Buy-and-Hold Strategies for Financial Markets with Bounded Daily Returns

In the context of investment analysis, we formulate an abstract online computing problem called a planning game and develop general tools for solving such a game. We then use the tools to investigate a practical buy-and-hold trading problem faced by long-term investors in stocks. We obtain the unique optimal static online algorithm for the problem and determine its exact competitive ratio. We also compare this algorithm with the popular dollar averaging strategy using actual market data.
