Norm estimates and asymptotic faithfulness of the quantum $SU(n)$ representations of the mapping class groups

We give a direct proof for the asymptotic faithfulness of the quantum $SU(n)$ representations of the mapping class groups using peak sections in Kodaira embedding. We give also estimates on the norm of the parallell transport of the projective connection on the Verlinde bundle. The faithfulness has been proved earlier in [1] using Toeplitz operators of compact Kähler manifolds and in [10] using skein theory.

An extension problem related to the fractional Branson-Gover operators

The Branson-Gover operators are conformally invariant differential operators of even degree acting on differential forms. They can be interpolated by a holomorphic family of conformally invariant integral operators called fractional Branson-Gover operators. For Euclidean spaces we show that the fractional Branson-Gover operators can be obtained as Dirichlet-to-Neumann operators of certain conformally invariant boundary value problems, generalizing the work of Caffarelli-Silvestre for the fractional Laplacians to differential forms. The relevant boundary value problems are studied in detail and we find appropriate Sobolev type spaces in which there exist unique solutions and obtain the explicit integral kernels of the solution operators as well as some of its properties.

Hausdorff moment sequences induced by rational functions

We study the Hausdorff moment problem for a class of sequences, namely $(r(n))_{n\in\mathbb Z_+},$ where $r$ is a rational function in the complex plane. We obtain a necessary condition for such sequence to be a Hausdorff moment sequence. We found an interesting connection between Hausdorff moment problem for this class of sequences with finite divided differences and convolution of complex exponential functions. We provide a sufficient condition on the zeros and poles of a rational function $r$ so that $(r(n))_{n\in\mathbb Z_+}$ is a Hausdorff moment sequence. G. Misra asked whether the module tensor product of a subnormal module with the Hardy module over the polynomial ring is again a subnormal module or not. Using our necessary condition we answer the question of G. Misra in negative. Finally, we obtain a characterization of all real polynomials $p$ of degree up to $4$ and a certain class of real polynomials of degree $5$ for which the sequence $(1/p(n))_{n\in\mathbb Z_+}$ is a Hausdorff moment sequence.

New Kähler metric on quasifuchsian space and its curvature properties

Let $QF(S)$ be the quasifuchsian space of a closed surface $S$ of genus $g\geq 2$. We construct a new mapping class group invariant Kähler metric on $QF(S)$. It is an extension of the Weil-Petersson metric onthe Teichmüller space $\mathcal T(S)\subset QF(S)$. We also calculate its curvature and prove some negativity for the curvature along the tautological directions.

Plurisuperharmonicity of reciprocal energy function on Teichmuller space and Weil-Petersson metrics

We consider harmonic maps$u(z): \mathcal{X}_z\to N$ in a fixed homotopy class from Riemann surfaces $\mathcal{X}_z$ of genus $g\geq 2$ varying in the Teichmü{}ller space $\mathcal T$ to a Riemannian manifold $N$ with non-positive Hermitian sectional curvature. The energy function $E(z)=E(u(z))$ can be viewed as a function on $\mathcal T$ and we study its first and the second variations. We prove that the reciprocal energy function $E(z)^{-1}$ is plurisuperharmonic on Teichmüller space. We also obtain the (strict) plurisubharmonicity of $\log E(z)$ and $E(z)$. As an application, we get the following relationship between the second variation of logarithmic energy function and the Weil-Petersson metric if the harmonic map $u(z)$ is holomorphic or anti-holomorphic and totally geodesic, i.e., $$ \sqrt{-1}\p\b{\p}\log E(z)=\frac{ω_{WP}}{2π(g-1)}. $$ We consider also the energy function $E(z)$ associated to the harmonic maps from a fixed compact Kähler manifold $M$ to Riemann surfaces ${\mathcal{X}_z\}_{z\in\mathcal{T}}$ in a fixed homotopy class. If $u(z)$ is holomorphic or anti-holomorphic, then the above equation is also proved.

Plurisubharmonicity and geodesic convexity of energy function on Teichmüller space

Let $π:\mc{X}\to \mc{T}$ be Teichmüller curve over Teichmüller space $\mc{T}$, such that the fiber $\mc{X}_z=π^{-1}(z)$ is exactly the Riemann surface given by the complex structure $z\in \mc{T}$. For a fixed Riemannian manifold $M$ and a continuous map $u_0: M\to \mc{X}_{z_0}$, let $E(z)$ denote the energy function of the harmonic map $u(z):M\to \mc{X}_z$ homotopic to $u_0$, $z\in \mathcal T$. We obtain the first and the second variations of the energy function $E(z)$, and show that $\log E(z)$ is strictly plurisubharmonic on Teichmüller space, from which we give a new proof on the Steinness of Teichmüller space. We also obtain a precise formula on the second variation of $E^{1/2}$ if $\dim M=1$. In particular, we get the formula of Axelsson-Schumacher on the second variation of the geodesic length function. We give also a simple and corrected proof for the theorem of Yamada, the convexity of energy function $E(t)$ along Weil-Petersson geodesics. As an application we show that $E(t)^c$ is also strictly convex for $c>5/6$ and convex for $c=5/6$ along Weil-Petersson geodesics. We also reprove a Kerckhoff's theorem which is a positive answer to the Nielsen realization problem.

The asymptotics of the $L^2$-curvature and the second variation of analytic torsion on Teichmüller space

We consider the relative canonical line bundle $K_{\mathcal{X}/\mathcal{T}}$ and a relatively ample line bundle $(L, e^{-ϕ})$ over the total space $ \mathcal{X}\to \mathcal{T}$ of fibration over the Teichmüller space by Riemann surfaces. We consider the case when the induced metric $\sqrt{-1}\partial\bar{\partial}ϕ|_{\mathcal{X}_y}$ on $\mathcal{X}_y$ has constant scalar curvature and we obtain the curvature asymptotics of $L^2$-metric and Quillen metric of the direct image bundle $E^k=π_*(L^k+K_{\mathcal{X}/\mathcal{T}})$. As a consequence we prove that the second variation of analytic torsion $τ_k(\bar{\partial})$ satisfies \begin{align*} \partial\bar{\partial}\logτ_k(\bar{\partial})=o(k^{-l}) \end{align*} at the point $y\in\mathcal{T}$ for any $l\geq 0$ as $k\to\infty$.

Tensor products of complementary series of rank one Lie groups

We consider the tensor product $π_α\otimes π_β$ of complementary series representations $π_α$ and $π_β$ of classical rank one groups $SO_0(n, 1)$, $SU(n, 1)$ and $Sp(n, 1)$. We prove that there is a discrete component $π_{α+β}$ for small parameters $α, β$ (in our parametrization). We prove further that for $G=SO_0(n, 1)$ there are finitely many complementary series of the form $π_{α+β+ 2j}$, $j=0, 1, \cdots, k$, appearing in the tensor product $π_α \otimes π_β $ of two complementary series $π_α$ and $π_β$, where $k=k(α, β, n)$ depends on $α, β, n$.

Toledo invariant of lattices in SU(2,1) via symmetric square

In this paper, we address the issue of quaternionic Toledo invariant to study the character variety of two dimensional complex hyperbolic uniform lattices into $SU(n,2)$. We construct four distinct representations to prove that the character variety contains at least four distinct components. We also address the existence of holomorphic horizontal lift to various period domains of $SU(n,2)$.

Holomorphic isometries from the unit ball into symmetric domains

We construct isometric holomorphic embeddings of the unit ball into higher rank symmetric domains, first discovered by Mok, in an explicit way using Jordan triple systems, and prove uniqueness results for all domains, including the exceptional domains of dimension 16 and 27.

Positivity of Shimura operators

In [16] G. Shimura introduced a family of invariant differential operators that play a key role in the study of nearly holomorphic automorphic forms, and he asked for a determination of their \textquotedblleft domain of positivity\textquotedblright. In this paper we relate the eigenvalues of Shimura operators to certain polynomials introduced by A. Okounkov, which leads to an explicit answer to Shimura's questions.

Convex real projective structures and Weil's local rigidity Theorem

For an $n$-dimensional real hyperbolic manifold $M$, we calculate the Zariski tangent space of a character variety $χ(π_1(M),SL(n+1,\mathbb R)), n>2$ at Fuchisan loci to show that the tangent space consists of cubic forms. Furthermore we prove the Weil's local rigidity theorem for uniforml hyperbolic lattices using real projective structures.

Hankel operators and the Dixmier trace on the Hardy space

We give criteria for the membership of Hankel operators on the Hardy space on the disc in the Dixmier class, and establish estimates for their Dixmier trace. In contrast to the situation in the Bergman space setting, it turns out that there exist Dixmier-class Hankel operators which are not measurable (i.e. their Dixmier trace depends on the choice of the underlying Banach limit), as well as Dixmier-class Hankel operators which do not belong to the $(1,\infty)$ Schatten-Lorentz ideal. A related question concerning logarithmic interpolation of Besov spaces is also discussed.

The Capelli identity and Radon transform for Grassmannians

We study a family $C_{s,l}$ of Capelli-type invariant differential operators on the space of rectangular matrices over a real division algebra. The $C_{s,l}$ descend to invariant differential operators on the corresponding Grassmannian, which is a compact symmetric space, and we determine the image of the $C_{s,l}$ under the Harish-Chandra homomorphism. We also obtain analogous results for corresponding operators on the non-compact duals of the Grassmannians, and for line bundles. As an application we obtain a Radon inversion formula, which generalizes a recent result of B. Rubin for real Grassmannians.

Eichler-Shimura isomorphism for complex hyperbolic lattices

We consider the cohomology group $H^1(Γ, ρ)$ of a discrete subgroup $Γ\subset G=SU(n, 1)$ and the symmetric tensor representation $ρ$ on $S^m(\mathbb C^{n+1})$. We give an elementary proof of the Eichler-Shimura isomorphism that harmonic forms $H^1(Γ\backslash G/K, ρ)$ are $(0, 1)$-forms for the automorphic holomorphic bundle induced by the representation $S^m(\mathbb C^{n})$ of $K$.

On boundary value problems for some conformally invariant differential operators

We study boundary value problems for some differential operators on Euclidean space and the Heisenberg group which are invariant under the conformal group of a Euclidean subspace resp. Heisenberg subgroup. These operators are shown to be self-adjoint in certain Sobolev type spaces and the related boundary value problems are proven to have unique solutions in these spaces. We further find the corresponding Poisson transforms explicitly in terms of their integral kernels and show that they are isometric between Sobolev spaces and extend to bounded operators between certain $L^p$-spaces. The conformal invariance of the differential operators allows us to apply unitary representation theory of reductive Lie groups, in particular recently developed methods for restriction problems.
