Mirror Symmetry of quantum Yang-Mills vacua and cosmological implications

We find an argument related to the existence of a Z_2-symmetry for the renormalization group flow derived from the bare Yang-Mills Lagrangian, and show that the cancellation of the vacuum energy may arise motivated both from the renormalization group flow solutions and the effective Yang-Mills action. In the framework of the effective Savvidy's action, two Mirror minima are allowed, with exactly equal and hold opposite sign energy densities. At the cosmological level, we explore the stability of the electric and magnetic attractor solutions, both within and beyond the perturbation theory, and find that thanks to these latter the cancellation between the electric and the magnetic vacua components is achieved at macroscopic space and time separations. This implies the disappearance of the conformal anomaly in the classical limit of an effective Yang-Mills theory. In this picture, the tunneling probability from the Mirror vacua to the other vacua is exponentially suppressed in the quantum non-thermal state --- similarly to what happens for electroweak instantonic tunneling solutions. Specifically, we show that, in a dynamical Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) cosmological background, the Nielsen-Olsen argument --- on the instability of uniform chromo-electric and chromo-magnetic Mirror vacua --- is subtly violated. The chromo-magnetic and chromo-electric uniform vacua are unstable only at asymptotic times, when the attractor to a zero energy density is already reached. The two vacua can safely decay into one anisotropic vacuum that has zero energy-density. We also discover a new surprising pattern of solitonic and anti-solitonic space-like solutions, which are sourced by the Yang-Mills dynamics in FLRW. We dub such non-perturbative configurations, which are directly related to dynamical cancellation mechanism of the vacuum energy, as {\it chronons}, or $χ$-solutions.

Light meson gas in the QCD vacuum and oscillating Universe

We have developed a phenomenological effective quantum-field theoretical model describing the "hadron gas" of the lightest pseudoscalar mesons, scalar σ-meson and σ-vacuum, i.e. the expectation value of the σ-field, at finite temperatures. The corresponding thermodynamic approach was formulated in terms of the generating functional derived from the effective Lagrangian providing the basic thermodynamic information about the "meson plasma + QCD condensate" system. This formalism enables us to study the QCD transition from the hadron phase with direct implications for cosmological evolution. Using the hypothesis about a positively-definite QCD vacuum contribution stochastically produced in early universe, we show that the universe could undergo a series of oscillations during the QCD epoch before resuming unbounded expansion.

Anomalous current from covariant Wigner functions

We consider accelerated and rotating media of weakly interacting fermions in local thermodynamic equilibrium. Kinetic properties of this media are described by covariant Wigner function calculated on the basis of relativistic distribution function of particles with spin. We obtain the formulae for axial current beyond the approximation of smallness of thermal vorticity tensor and chemical potential and calculate its divergence. In the massless limit higher order terms in vorticity and chemical potential compensate each other with only the low-order contributions surviving. It is shown, that axial current gets a topological component along the 4-acceleration vector. The similarity between different approaches to baryon polarisation is established.

Mirror QCD and Cosmological Constant

An analog of Quantum Chromo Dynamics (QCD) sector known as mirror QCD (mQCD) can affect the cosmological evolution due to a non-trivial contribution to the Cosmological Constant analogous to that induced by the ground state in non-perturbative QCD. In this work, we explore a plausible hypothesis for trace anomalies cancellation between the usual QCD and mQCD. Such an anomaly cancellation between the two gauge theories, if exists in Nature, would lead to a suppression or even elimination of their contributions to the Cosmological Constant. The trace anomaly compensation condition and the form of the non-perturbative mQCD coupling constant in the infrared limit have been proposed by analysing a partial non-perturbative solution of the Einstein--Yang-Mills equations of motion.

Dynamics of wave fluctuations in the homogeneous Yang-Mills condensate

In the present work, the Yang-Mills (YM) quantum-wave excitations of the classical homogeneous YM condensate have been studied in quasi-classical approximation. The formalism is initially formulated in the Hamilton gauge and is based upon canonical quantisation in the Heisenberg representation. This canonical framework is then extended and related to YM dynamics in arbitrary gauge and symmetry group containing at least one $SU(2)$ subgroup. Such generic properties of the interacting YM system as excitation of longitudinal wave modes and energy balance between the evolving YM condensate and waves have been established. In order to prove these findings, the canonical quasi-classical YM system "waves + condensate" in the pure simplest $SU(2)$ gauge theory has been thoroughly analysed numerically in the linear and next-to-linear approximations in the limit of small wave amplitudes. The effective gluon mass dynamically generated by wave self-interactions in the gluon plasma has been derived. A complete set of equations of motion for the YM "condensate + waves" system accounting for second- and third-order interactions between the waves has been obtained. In the next-to-linear approximation in waves we have found that due to interactions between the YM waves and the YM condensate, the latter looses its energy leading to the growth of amplitudes of the YM wave modes. A similar effect has been found in the maximally-supersymmetric ${\cal N}=4$ Yang-Mills theory as well as in two-condensate $SU(4)$ model. Possible implications of these findings to Cosmology and gluon plasma physics have been discussed.
