Scattering of charged tensor bosons in gauge and superstring theories

We calculate the leading-order scattering amplitude of one vector and two tensor gauge bosons in a recently proposed non-Abelian tensor gauge field theory and open superstring theory. The linear in momenta part of the superstring amplitude has identical Lorentz structure with the gauge theory, while its cubic in momenta part can be identified with an effective Lagrangian which is constructed using generalized non-Abelian field strength tensors.

Schwinger-Fronsdal Theory of Abelian Tensor Gauge Fields

This review is devoted to the Schwinger and Fronsdal theory of Abelian tensor gauge fields. The theory describes the propagation of free massless gauge bosons of integer helicities and their interaction with external currents. Self-consistency of its equations requires only the traceless part of the current divergence to vanish. The essence of the theory is given by the fact that this weaker current conservation is enough to guarantee the unitarity of the theory. Physically this means that only waves with transverse polarizations are propagating very far from the sources. The question whether such currents exist should be answered by a fully interacting theory. We also suggest an equivalent representation of the corresponding action.

Interaction of non-Abelian tensor gauge fields

Recently we introduced an extended vector bundle X on which non-Abelian tensor gauge fields realize a connection. Our aim here is to introduce interaction of these non-Abelian tensor gauge fields with fermions and bosons. We have found that there exist two series of gauge invariant forms describing this interaction. The linear sum of these forms comprises the general gauge invariant Lagrangian. Studying the corresponding Euler-Lagrange equations we found that a particular linear combination of these forms exhibits enhanced symmetry which guarantees the conservation of the corresponding high-rank currents. A possible mechanism of symmetry breaking and mass generation of tensor gauge bosons is suggested.

Production of Spin-Two Gauge Bosons

We considered spin-two gauge boson production in the fermion pair annihilation process and calculated the polarized cross sections for each set of helicity orientations of initial and final particles. The angular dependence of these cross sections is compared with the similar annihilation cross sections in QED with two photons in the final state, with two gluons in QCD and W-pair in Electroweak theory.

Tensor gauge boson production in high energy collisions

We calculated the leading-order cross section for the helicity two tensor gauge bosons production in fermion pair annihilation process. We compare this cross section with a similar annihilation processes in QED with two photons in the final state and with two gluons in QCD.

Duality transformation of non-Abelian tensor gauge fields

For non-Abelian tensor gauge fields we have found an alternative form of duality transformation, which has the property that the direct and the inverse transformations coincide. This duality transformation has the desired property that the direct and the inverse transformations map Lagrangian forms into each other.

Non-Abelian tensor gauge fields: generalization of Yang-Mills theory

We suggest an extension of the gauge principle which includes tensor gauge fields. The extended non-Abelian gauge transformations of the tensor gauge fields form a new large group. On this group one can define field strength tensors, which are transforming homogeneously with respect to the extended gauge transformations. The invariant Lagrangian is quadratic in the field strength tensors and describes interaction of tensor gauge fields of arbitrary large integer spin $1,2,...$. It does not contain higher derivatives of the tensor gauge fields, and all interactions take place through three- and four-particle exchanges with dimensionless coupling constant. In this extension of the Yang-Mills theory the vector gauge boson becomes a member of a bigger family of tensor gauge bosons. We shall present a second invariant Lagrangian which can be constructed in terms of the above field strength tensors. The total Lagrangian is a sum of the two Lagrangians and exhibits enhanced local gauge invariance with double number of gauge parameters. This allows to eliminate all negative norm states of the nonsymmetric second-rank tensor gauge field, which describes therefore three physical polarizations: two symmetric polarizations of helicity-two massless charged tensor gauge bosons and antisymmetric polarization of helicity-zero charged B field.

Propagating modes of non-Abelian tensor gauge field of second rank

In the recently proposed extension of the YM theory, non-Abelian tensor gauge field of the second rank is represented by a general tensor whose symmetric part describes the propagation of charged gauge boson of helicity two and its antisymmetric part - the helicity zero charged gauge boson. On the non-interacting level these polarizations are similar to the polarizations of the graviton and of the Abelian antisymmetric B field, but the interaction of these gauge bosons carrying non-commutative internal charges cannot be directly identified with the interaction of gravitons or B field. Our intention here is to illustrate this result from different perspectives which would include Bianchi identity for the corresponding field strength tensor and the analysis of the second-order partial differential equation which describes in this theory the propagation of non-Abelian tensor gauge field of the second rank.

Generalization of Yang-Mills Theory

In the present paper we shall extend the gauge principle so that it will enlarge the original algebra of the Abelian gauge transformations found earlier in our studies of tensionless strings to the non-Abelian case. In this extension of the Yang-Mills theory the vector gauge boson becomes a member of a bigger family of gauge bosons of arbitrary large integer spins. The invariant Lagrangian does not contain higher derivatives of tensor gauge fields and all interactions take place through three- and four-particle exchanges with dimensionless coupling constant. The extended gauge theory has the same index of divergences of its Feynman diagrams as the Yang-Mills theory does and most probably will be renormalizable. The proposed extension may lead to a natural inclusion of the standard theory of fundamental forces into a larger theory in which vector gauge bosons, leptons and quarks represent a low-spin subgroup of an enlarged family of particles with higher spins. I analyze the masses of the new tensor gauge bosons, their decay and creation processes in the extended model.

A dual lagrangian for non-Abelian tensor gauge fields

For non-Abelian tensor gauge fields of the lower rank we have found an alternative expression for the field strength tensors, which transform homogeneously with respect to the complementary gauge transformations and allow us to construct the dual Lagrangian.

Non-Abelian Tensor Gauge Fields. Enhanced Symmetries

We define a group of extended non-Abelian gauge transformations for tensor gauge fields. On this group one can define generalized field strength tensors, which are transforming homogeneously with respect to the extended gauge transformations. The generalized field strength tensors allow to construct two infinite series of gauge invariant quadratic forms. Each term of these infinite series is separately gauge invariant. The invariant Lagrangian is a linear sum of these forms and describes interaction of tensor gauge fields of arbitrarily large integer spins 1,2,.... It does not contain higher derivatives of the tensor gauge fields, and all interactions take place through three- and four-particle exchanges with dimensionless coupling constant. The first term in this sum is the Yang-Mills Lagrangian. The invariance with respect to the extended gauge transformations does not fix the coefficients - the coupling constants - in front of these forms. There is a freedom to vary them without breaking the extended gauge symmetry. We demonstrate that by an appropriate tuning of these coupling constants one can achieve an enhancement of the extended gauge symmetry. This leads to highly symmetric equations. We present the explicit form of the free equations for the rank-2 and rank-3 gauge fields. Their relation to the Schwinger free equation for the rank-3 gauge fields is discussed.

Physical Fock space of tensionless strings

We study the physical Fock space of the tensionless string theory with perimeter action which has pure massless spectrum. The states are classified by the Wigner's little group for massless particles. The ground state contains infinite many massless fields of fixed helicity, the excitation levels realize CSR representations. We demonstrate that the first and the second excitation levels are physical null states.
