Surpassing the currently achievable distance of quantum key distribution based on sending-or-not-sending approach

Protocols based on the sending-or-not-sending (SNS) principle have been intensively studied in recent years and have been shown to enable the longest transmission distances in quantum key distribution (QKD). In this work, we propose a sending-or-not-sending phase-matching QKD protocol (SNS-PM-QKD) that improves tolerance to phase mismatch, thereby extending the achievable transmission distance. We present a security analysis of SNS-PM-QKD in the asymptotic (infinite-key) regime under collective attacks. The performance of the proposed protocol is compared with that of standard phase-matching QKD, theoretical SNS-type twin-field QKD protocols (SNS-TF-QKD), and an experimental SNS-TF-QKD operated over transmission distances of up to 1002km. Our results show that SNS-PM-QKD achieves greater transmission distances than these existing protocols, highlighting its potential for long-distance quantum communication.

On the Optimality of a Quantum Key Distribution

Quantum key distribution (QKD) systems require optimal performance of both quantum and classical channels - utilizing as few as possible qubits and bits for establishing as many as possible key bits. Here we report a way to determine if a quantum key distribution model (or protocol) operates in an optimal behavior. This is accomplished by introducing a quantity, called optimality, which is the maximum over the total efficiency of a QKD under any circumstances (any values of QKD parameters). The optimality definition is given for the asymptotic operation of a QKD system - when infinitely many quantum systems are transferred/used in a quantum key distribution protocol or a quantum key distribution system is used infinitely many times. A way to attain the optimality is considered\textemdash implementation of a completely efficient QKD system (a combination of capacity-reaching quantum channel and a completely compressed classical channel) is presented. Optimal versions of BB84-QKD and twin-field QKD are introduced.

Quantum Key Distribution Based on Systematic Polar Coding

Here we concerned with quantum key distribution - a way to establish common cryptographic key between several parties. The work proposes a combination between quantum key distribution and systematic polar coding (an error correction algorithm) frameworks - quantum key distribution based on systematic polar coding. This results in obtaining key rates greater than standard quantum key distribution (BB84) and its efficient version (eBB84) when finite-size regime and lower-error-rate quantum channel are considered.
