Maximal ideals of generalized summing linear operators

We prove when a Banach ideal of linear operators defined, or characterized, by the transformation of vector-valued sequences is maximal. Known results are recovered as particular cases and new information is obtained. To accomplish this task we study a tensor quasi-norm determined by the underlying sequence classes. The duality theory for these tensor quasi-norms is also developed.

Order continuity of Arens extensions of regular multilinear operators

First we give a counterexample showing that recent results on separate order continuity of Arens extensions of multilinear operators cannot be improved to get separate order continuity on the product of the whole of the biduals. Then we establish conditions on the operators and/or on the underlying Riesz spaces/Banach lattices so that the extensions are order continuous on the product of the whole biduals. We also prove that all Arens extensions of any regular multilinear operator are order continuous in at least one variable and we study when Arens extensions of regular homogeneous polynomials on a Banach lattice $E$ are order continuous on $E^{\sim\sim}$.

Summing multilinear operators and sequence classes

We construct a general framework that generates classes of multilinear operators between Banach spaces which encompasses, as particular cases, the several classes of summing type multilinear operators that have been studied individually in the literature. Summing operators by blocks in the isotropic and anisotropic cases are taken into account. The classes we create are shown to be Banach ideals of multilinear operators and applications to coherence and coincidence theorems are provided.

Hyper-ideals of multilinear operators and two-sided polynomial ideals generated by sequence classes

In the nonlinear field of multilinear operators and homogeneous polynomials between Banach spaces, we develop a technique, based on the transformation of vector-valued sequences, to create new examples of hyper-ideals of multilinear operators, polynomial hyper-ideals and polynomial two-sided ideals. Several well studied ideals are shown to be actually hyper-ideals or two-sided ideals.

Bidual extensions of Riesz multimorphisms

We prove that all Arens extensions of finite rank Riesz multimorphisms taking values in Archimedean Riesz spaces coincide and are Riesz multimorphisms. Partial results for arbitrary Riesz multimorphisms are obtained. We also prove that, for a class of Banach lattices $F$, which includes $F = c_0, \ell_p, c_0(\ell_p), \ell_p(c_0), \ell_p(\ell_s), 1 < p,s < \infty$, among many others, all Aron-Berner extensions of $F$-valued Riesz multimorphisms between Banach lattices are Riesz multimorphisms.

Duality theory for generalized summing linear operators

Generalizing classical results of the theory of absolutely summing operators, in this paper we characterize the duals of a quite large class of Banach operator ideals defined or characterized by the transformation of vector-valued sequences.

The positive Schur property on positive projective tensor products and spaces of regular multilinear operators

We characterize the positive Schur property in the positive projective tensor products of Banach lattices, we establish the connection with the weak operator topology and we give necessary and sufficient conditions for the space of regular multilinear operators/homogeneous polynomials taking values in a Dedekind complete Banach lattice to have the positive Schur property.

Complete latticeability in vector-valued sequence spaces

First we adjust a technique due to Jiménez-Rodríguez to prove the complete latticeability of the set of disjoint non-norm null weakly null sequences and of the set of disjoint non-norm null regular-polynomially null sequences in Banach lattices. Then we apply the mother vector technique to prove the complete latticeability of $λ_π(E) \setminus λ_s(E)$, which implies the complete latticeability of $(\ell_p\widehat{\otimes}_{|π|}E)\setminus(\ell_p\widehat{\otimes}_πE)$, where $E$ is a Banach lattice and $1 < p < \infty$.

On the representation of linear functionals on hyper-ideals of multilinear operators

A standard technique in infinite dimensional holomorphy, which produced several useful results, uses the Borel transform to represent linear functionals on certain spaces of multilinear operators between Banach spaces as multilinear operators. In this paper we develop a technique to represent linear functionals, as linear operators, on spaces of multilinear operators that are beyond the scope of the standard technique. Concrete applications to some well studied classes of multilinear operators, including the class of compact multilinear operators, and to one new class are provided. We can see, in particular, that sometimes our representations hold under conditions less restrictive than those of the related classical ones.

The positive polynomial Schur property in Banach lattices

We study the class of Banach lattices that are positively polynomially Schur. Plenty of examples and counterexamples are provided, lattice properties of this class are proved, arbitrary $L_p(μ)$-spaces are shown to be positively polynomially Schur, lattice analogues of results on Banach spaces are obtained and relationships with the positive Schur and the weak Dunford-Pettis properties are established.

Summing multilinear operators by blocks: the isotropic and anisotropic cases

Unifying several directions of the development of the study of summing multilinear operators between Banach spaces, we construct a general framework that studies, under one single definition, multilinear operators that are summing with respect to sums taken over any number of indices, iterated and non-iterated sums (the isotropic and the anisotropic cases), sums over arbitrary blocks and over several different sequence norms. A large number of special classes of multilinear operators and of methods of generating classes of multilinear operators are recovered as particular instances. Ideal properties and coincidence theorems for the general classes are proved.

On the Schur, positive Schur and weak Dunford-Pettis properties in Fréchet lattices

We prove some general results on sequential convergence in Fréchet lattices that yield, as particular instances, the following results regarding a closed ideal I of a Banach lattice E: (i) If two of the lattices E, I and E/I have the positive Schur property (the Schur property, respectively) then the third lattice has the positive Schur property (the Schur property, respectively) as well; (ii) If I and E/I have the dual positive Schur property, then E also has this property; (iii) If I has the weak Dunford-Pettis property and E/I has the positive Schur property, then E has the weak Dunford-Pettis property. Examples and applications are provided.

Injective polynomial ideals and the domination property

After sketching the basic theory of injective ideals of homogeneous polynomials, we characterize injective polynomial ideals by means of a domination property and applications of this characterization to some classical operator ideals and to composition polynomial ideals are provided.

A unified factorization theorem for Lipschitz summing operators

We prove a general factorization theorem for Lipschitz summing operators in the context of metric spaces which recovers several linear and nonlinear factorization theorems that have been proved recently in different environments. New applications are also given.

Generalized adjoints and applications to composition operators

We generalize the classical notion of adjoint of a linear operator and the Aron-Schottenloher notion of adjoint of a homogeneous polynomial. The general notion is shown to enjoy several properties enjoyed by the classical ones, nevertheless differences between the two theories are detected. The proofs of both positive and negative results are not simple adaptations of the linear cases, actually nonlinear arguments are often required. Applications of the generalized adjoints to Lindström-Schlüchtermann type theorems for composition operators are provided.

Spaces of $σ(p)$-nuclear linear and multilinear operators and their duals

The theory of $τ$-summing and $σ$-nuclear linear operators on Banach spaces was developed by Pietsch [12, Chapter 23]. Extending the linear case to the range p > 1 and generalizing all cases to the multilinear setting, in this paper we introduce the concept of $σ(p)$-nuclear linear and multilinear operators. In order to develop the duality theory for the spaces of such operators, we introduce the concept of quasi-tau(p)-summing linear/multilinear operators and prove Pietsch-type domination theorems for such operators. The main result of the paper shows that, under usual conditions, linear functionals on the space of $σ(p)$-nuclear $n$-linear operators are represented, via the Borel transform, by quasi-$τ(p)$-summing $n$-linear operators. As far as we know, this result is new even in the linear case $n = 1$.

Polynomial ideals from a nonlinear viewpoint

Classes of homogeneous polynomials between Banach spaces have been studied in the last three decades from the perspective of the so-called ideal property: if a polynomial P belongs to a class Q, then the composition u o P o v of P with linear operators u and v belongs to Q as well. In an attempt to explore the nonlinearity of the subject in a more consistent way, and taking into account recent results in the field, in this paper we propose the study of classes of homogeneous polynomials that are stable under the composition with homogeneous polynomials. Some importante classes justify the study of the intermediate concept of classes of polynomials Q such that if P belongs to Q, u is a linear operator and Q is a homogeneous polynomial, then u o P o Q belongs to Q.

Type and cotype of multilinear operators

The aim of this paper is to start the study of multilinear generalizations of the classical ideals of linear operators of type $p$ and cotype $q$. As a first step in a theory we believe will be long and fruitful, we propose a notion of type and cotype of multilinear operators and the resulting classes of such mappings are studied in the setting of the theory of Banach/quasi-Banach ideals of multilinear operators. Distinctions between the linear and the multilinear theories are pointed out, typical multilinear features of the theory are emphasized and many illustrative examples are provided. The classes we introduce are related to the multi-ideals generated by the linear ideals of operators of some type/cotype and are proved to be maximal and Aron-Berner stable.
