Three-core fiber Fabry-Perot resonator for dual-frequency comb generation

Fiber Fabry-Perot resonators have proven their ability to generate broad and stable optical frequency combs, and are ideal devices for fiber systems as they are high-Q, compact, and easily integrated with FC/PC connectors. Here, we present an advanced fiber Fabry-Perot resonator designed for multi-frequency comb generation and spatial multiplexing. The resonator is fabricated using a three-core optical fiber and is able to generate two mutually coherent frequency combs while being locked to a driving laser. Multiplexing of the combs is achieved with a fan-in/fan-out system, enabling a fully fiber-based experimental setup. The generated combs, induced by cavity solitons, feature a 1.27 GHz repetition rate and a bandwidth above 40 nm. A slight difference in the group index of each core leads to a 112 kHz repetition rate offset between the combs, enabling dual-comb spectroscopy proof-of-concept measurement of a 0.1 nm absorption band.

TL properties of RE-Doped and Co-doped Sol-gel Silica Rods. Application to Passive (OSL) and Real-time (RL) Dosimetry

Two rods made from sol-gel silica have been doped with Ce ions or co-doped with Ce and Tb ions respectively. First, a thermoluminescence (TL) characterization of the trapping and luminescence parameters is carried out to understand the physical mechanisms involved following the irradiation of these rods and to evaluate their dosimetric properties. The optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) and the radioluminescence (RL) responses as a function of respectively absorbed dose and dose rate are assessed. The OSL response of both rods is linear as a function of the absorbed dose. The RL sensitivity of both rods proves not only to be extremely high but also shows a linear behavior over more than 6 decades, allowing real-time detection of dose rates as low as few $μ$Gy s$^{-1}$, a threshold that to our knowledge, has never been reached. The results from RL and OSL show that these silica-based doped rods are potentially suitable for medical dosimetry and environmental monitoring around nuclear sites.

Harnessing the modulation instability spectrum in optical fibers with a periodic dispersion landscape

We report the experimental demonstration of modulation instability process assisted by a dispersion grating in an optical fiber. A simple analytical model is developed to further analyze and explain the complex dynamics of this process, showing that each of the multiple spectral components grows thanks to a quasi phase-matching mechanism inherent to the periodicity of the waveguide parameters. This model is confirmed by numerical simulations and it is successfully used to tailor the multi-peak modulation instability spectrum shape. These theoretical predictions are confirmed by experiments.

A microstructured fiber source of photon pairs at widely separated wavelengths

We demonstrate a source of photon pairs with widely separated wavelengths, 810 nm and 1548 nm, generated through spontaneous four-wave mixing in a microstructured fiber. The second-order auto-correlation function g^{(2)}(0) was measured to confirm the non-classical nature of a heralded single photon source constructed from the fiber. The microstructured fiber presented herein has the interesting property of generating photon pairs with wavelengths suitable for a quantum repeater able to link free-space channels with fiber channels, as well as for a high quality telecommunication wavelength heralded single photon source. It also has the advantage of straightforward coupling into optical fiber. These reasons make this photon pair source particularly interesting for long distance quantum communication.
