Neural architectures for resolving references in program code

Resolving and rewriting references is fundamental in programming languages. Motivated by a real-world decompilation task, we abstract reference rewriting into the problems of direct and indirect indexing by permutation. We create synthetic benchmarks for these tasks and show that well-known sequence-to-sequence machine learning architectures are struggling on these benchmarks. We introduce new sequence-to-sequence architectures for both problems. Our measurements show that our architectures outperform the baselines in both robustness and scalability: our models can handle examples that are ten times longer compared to the best baseline. We measure the impact of our architecture in the real-world task of decompiling switch statements, which has an indexing subtask. According to our measurements, the extended model decreases the error rate by 42%. Multiple ablation studies show that all components of our architectures are essential.

Fast Real-Time Pipeline for Robust Arm Gesture Recognition

This paper presents a real-time pipeline for dynamic arm gesture recognition based on OpenPose keypoint estimation, keypoint normalization, and a recurrent neural network classifier. The 1 x 1 normalization scheme and two feature representations (coordinate- and angle-based) are presented for the pipeline. In addition, an efficient method to improve robustness against camera angle variations is also introduced by using artificially rotated training data. Experiments on a custom traffic-control gesture dataset demonstrate high accuracy across varying viewing angles and speeds. Finally, an approach to calculate the speed of the arm signal (if necessary) is also presented.

Large Language Models for Code Summarization

Recently, there has been increasing activity in using deep learning for software engineering, including tasks like code generation and summarization. In particular, the most recent coding Large Language Models seem to perform well on these problems. In this technical report, we aim to review how these models perform in code explanation/summarization, while also investigating their code generation capabilities (based on natural language descriptions).
