On the inclusion relations of global ultradifferentiable classes defined by weight matrices

We study and characterize the inclusion relations of global classes in the general weight matrix framework in terms of growth relations for the defining weight matrices. We consider the Roumieu and Beurling cases, and as a particular case we also treat the classical weight function and weight sequence cases. Moreover, we construct a weight sequence which is oscillating around any weight sequence which satisfies some minimal conditions and, in particular, around the critical weight sequence $(p!)^{1/2}$, related with the non-triviality of the classes. Finally, we also obtain comparison results both on classes defined by weight functions that can be defined by weight sequences and conversely.

Ultradifferentiable classes of entire functions

We study classes of ultradifferentiable functions defined in terms of small weight sequences violating standard growth and regularity requirements. First, we show that such classes can be viewed as weighted spaces of entire functions for which the crucial weight is given by the associated weight function of the so-called conjugate weight sequence. Moreover, we generalize results from M. Markin from the so-called small Gevrey-setting to arbitrary convenient families of (small) sequences and show how the corresponding ultradifferentiable function classes can be used to detect boundedness of normal linear operators on Hilbert spaces (associated to an evolution equation problem). Finally, we study the connection between small sequences and the recent notion of dual sequences introduced in the PhD-thesis of J. Jiménez-Garrido.

Stability properties of ultraholomorphic classes of Roumieu-type defined by weight matrices

We characterize several stability properties, such as inverse or composition closedness, for ultraholomorphic function classes of Roumieu type defined in terms of a weight matrix. In this way we transfer and extend known results from J. Siddiqi and M. Ider, from the weight sequence setting and in sectors not wider than a half-plane, to the weight matrix framework and for sectors in the Riemann surface of the logarithm with arbitrary opening. The key argument rests on the construction, under suitable hypotheses, of characteristic functions in these classes for unrestricted sectors. As a by-product, we obtain new stability results when the growth control in these classes is expressed in terms of a weight sequence, or of a weight function in the sense of Braun-Meise-Taylor.

On generalized definitions of ultradifferentiable classes

We show that the ultradifferentiable-like classes of smooth functions introduced and studied by S. Pilipović, N. Teofanov and F. Tomić are special cases of the general framework of spaces of ultradifferentiable functions defined in terms of weight matrices in the sense of A. Rainer and the third author. We study classes "beyond geometric growth factors" defined in terms of a weight sequence and an exponent sequence, prove that these new types admit a weight matrix representation and transfer known results from the matrix-type to such a non-standard ultradifferentiable setting.

Ellipticity and the problem of iterates in Denjoy-Carleman classes

In 1978 Métivier showed that a differential operator $P$ with analytic coefficients is elliptic if and only if the theorem of iterates holds for $P$ with respect to any non-analytic Gevrey class. In this paper we extend this theorem to Denjoy-Carleman classes given by strongly non-quasianalytic weight sequences. The proof involves a new way to construct optimal functions in Denjoy-Carleman classes, which might be of independent interest. Moreover, we point out that the analogous statement for Braun-Meise-Taylor classes given by weight functions cannot hold. This signifies an important difference in the properties of Denjoy-Carleman classes and Braun-Meise-Taylor classes, respectively.

The Theorem of Iterates for elliptic and non-elliptic Operators

We introduce a new approach for the study of the Problem of Iterates using the theory on general ultradifferentiable structures developed in the last years. Our framework generalizes many of the previous settings including the Gevrey case and enables us, for the first time, to prove non-analytic Theorems of Iterates for non-elliptic differential operators. In particular, by generalizing a Theorem of Baouendi and Metivier we obtain the Theorem of Iterates for hypoelliptic analytic operators of principal type with respect to several non-analytic ultradifferentiable structures.

The Borel map in the mixed Beurling setting

The Borel map takes a smooth function to its infinite jet of derivatives (at zero). We study the restriction of this map to ultradifferentiable classes of Beurling type in a very general setting which encompasses the classical Denjoy-Carleman and Braun-Meise-Taylor classes. More precisely, we characterize when the Borel image of one class covers the sequence space of another class in terms of the two weights that define the classes. We present two independent solutions to this problem, one by reduction to the Roumieu case and the other by dualization of the involved Fréchet spaces, a Phragmén-Lindelöf theorem, and Hörmander's solution of the $\bar{\partial}$-problem.

On the equivalence between moderate growth-type conditions in the weight matrix setting

We study the generalizations of the known equivalent reformulations of condition moderate growth from the single weight sequence to the weight matrix setting. This condition, also known in the literature under the name stability under ultradifferentiable operators, plays a significant role in the theory of ultradifferentiable (and ultraholomorophic) function classes defined in terms of weight sequences and its generalization becomes relevant when dealing with classes defined by weight matrices. In the matrix setting, we prove that the different mixed conditions are in general not equivalently satisfied anymore and we focus on weight matrices associated with (associated) weight functions.

Optimal flat functions in Carleman-Roumieu ultraholomorphic classes in sectors

We construct optimal flat functions in Carleman-Roumieu ultraholomorphic classes associated to general strongly nonquasianalytic weight sequences, and defined on sectors of suitably restricted opening. A general procedure is presented in order to obtain linear continuous extension operators, right inverses of the Borel map, for the case of regular weight sequences in the sense of Dyn'kin. Finally, we discuss some examples (including the well-known $q$-Gevrey case) where such optimal flat functions can be obtained in a more explicit way.

On optimal solutions of the Borel problem in the Roumieu case

The Borel problem for Denjoy--Carleman and Braun--Meise--Taylor classes has well-known optimal solutions. The unified treatment of these ultradifferentiable classes by means of one-parameter families of weight sequences allows to compare these optimal solutions. We determine the relations among them and give conditions for their equivalence in the Roumieu case.

Nonlinear conditions for ultradifferentiability: a uniform approach

Recent work showed that a theorem of Joris (that a function $f$ is smooth if two coprime powers of $f$ are smooth) is valid in a wide variety of ultradifferentiable classes $\mathcal C$. The core of the proof was essentially $1$-dimensional. In certain cases a multidimensional version resulted from subtle reduction arguments, but general validity, notably in the quasianalytic setting, remained open. In this paper we give a uniform proof which works in all cases and dimensions. It yields the result even on infinite dimensional Banach spaces and convenient vector spaces. We also consider more general nonlinear conditions, namely general analytic germs $Φ$ instead of the powers, and characterize when $Φ\circ f \in \mathcal C$ implies $f \in \mathcal C$.

On the maximal extension in the mixed ultradifferentiable weight sequence setting

For the ultradifferentiable weight sequence setting it is known that the Borel map which assigns to each function the infinite jet of derivatives (at 0) is surjective onto the corresponding weighted sequence class if and only if the sequence is strongly nonquasianalytic for both the Roumieu- and Beurling-type classes. Sequences which are nonquasianalytic but not strongly nonquasianalytic admit a controlled loss of regularity and we determine the maximal sequence for which such a mixed setting is possible for both types, hence get information on the controlled loss of surjectivity in this situation. Moreover, we compare the optimal sequences for both mixed strong nonquasianalyticity conditions arising in the literature.

Equality of ultradifferentiable classes by means of indices of mixed O-regular variation

We characterize the equality between ultradifferentiable function classes defined in terms of abstractly given weight matrices and in terms of the corresponding matrix of associated weight functions by using new growth indices. These indices, defined by means of weight sequences and (associated) weight functions, are extending the notion of O-regular variation to a mixed setting. Hence we are extending the known comparison results concerning classes defined in terms of a single weight sequence and of a single weight function and give also these statements an interpretation expressed in O-regular variation.

On subadditivity-like conditions for associated weight functions

The aim of this article is to provide characterizations for subadditivity-like growth conditions for the so-called associated weight functions in terms of the defning weight sequence. Such growth requirements arise frequently in the literature and are standard when dealing with ultradifferentiable function classes defned by Braun-Meise-Taylor weight functions since they imply or even characterize important and desired consequences for the underlying function spaces, e.g. closedness under composition.

Ultraholomorphic sectorial extensions of Beurling type

We prove sectorial extension theorems for ultraholomorphic function classes of Beurling type defined by weight functions with a controlled loss of regularity. The proofs are based on a reduction lemma, due to the second author, which allows to extract the Beurling from the Roumieu case, which was treated recently by Jiménez-Garrido, Sanz, and the third author. In order to have control on the opening of the sectors, where the extensions exist, we use the (mixed) growth index and the order of quasianalyticity of weight functions. As a consequence we obtain corresponding extension results for classes defined by weight sequences. Additionally, we give information on the existence of continuous linear extension operators.

Nonlinear conditions for ultradifferentiability

A remarkable theorem of Joris states that a function $f$ is $C^\infty$ if two relatively prime powers of $f$ are $C^\infty$. Recently, Thilliez showed that an analogous theorem holds in Denjoy--Carleman classes of Roumieu type. We prove that a division property, equivalent to Joris's result, is valid in a wide variety of ultradifferentiable classes. Generally speaking, it holds in all dimensions for non-quasianalytic classes. In the quasianalytic case we have general validity in dimension one, but we also get validity in all dimensions for certain quasianalytic classes.

Surjectivity of the asymptotic Borel map in Carleman-Roumieu ultraholomorphic classes defined by regular sequences

We study the surjectivity of, and the existence of right inverses for, the asymptotic Borel map in Carleman-Roumieu ultraholomorphic classes defined by regular sequences in the sense of E. M. Dyn'kin. We extend previous results by J. Schmets and M. Valdivia, by V. Thilliez, and by the authors, and show the prominent role played by an index associated with the sequence and introduced by Thilliez. The techniques involve regular variation, integral transforms and characterization results of A. Debrouwere in a half-plane, steming from his study of the surjectivity of the moment mapping in general Gelfand-Shilov spaces.

Solid hulls and cores of classes of weighted entire functions defined in terms of associated weight functions

In the spirit of very recent articles by J. Bonet, W. Lusky and J. Taskinen we are studying the so-called solid hulls and cores of spaces of weighted entire functions when the weights are given in terms of associated weight functions coming from weight sequences. These sequences are required to satisfy certain (standard) growth and regularity properties which are frequently arising and used in the theory of ultradifferentiable and ultraholomorphic function classes (where also the associated weight function plays a prominent role). Thanks to this additional information we are able to see which growth behavior the so-called "Lusky-numbers", arising in the representations of the solid hulls and cores, have to satisfy resp. if such numbers can exist.
