A Local Singularity Analysis for the Ricci Flow and its Applications to Ricci Flows with Bounded Scalar Curvature -- Part II

We continue our local singularity analysis for Ricci flow initiated in ArXiv:2006.16227. Building on that framework, we study Type I singular points in general Ricci flows, without assuming any global Type I curvature bound, and prove that the scalar curvature must blow up at a Type I rate at each such point in all dimensions. As a consequence, Ricci flows with bounded scalar curvature cannot develop Type I singular points. This extends earlier results of the first author with Enders and Topping and with Mantegazza that relied on a global Type I assumption. We then adapt the same local perspective to ancient Ricci flows and analyse the curvature behaviour as time goes to negative infinity, showing in particular that every ancient Type I point exhibits scalar curvature behaviour of ancient Type I order.

Sacks-Uhlenbeck type regularity for subcritical generalized $p$-harmonic maps into Homogeneous targets

Adapting \cite{strz3}, we define generalized $p$-harmonic maps into Riemannian homogeneous targets, a notion of solutions not belonging to the energy space. Restricting our attention to the subcritical range $p$ greater than the domain dimension $n$, we show a uniform $C^{1,α}$-regularity result for a sequence of such maps in the limit $p \searrow n$, assuming a uniform $n$-energy bound on its elements. The method of the proof follows the exact same lines as in \cite{strz3} but we need to check uniformity of estimates not previously considered there.

Higher dimensional Sacks-Uhlenbeck-type functionals and applications

In this work, we generalize Sacks-Uhlenbeck's existence result for harmonic spheres, constructing for $n \ge 2$, regular, non-trivial, $n$-harmonic $n$-spheres into suitable target manifolds. We obtain an infinite family of new null-homotopic such maps. The proof follows a similar perturbative argument, which in high dimensions leads to a degenerate and double-phase-type Euler-Lagrange system, making the uniform regularity needed to formalize the bubbling harder to achieve. Then, we develop a refined neck-analysis leading to an energy identity along the approximation, assuming a suitable Struwe-type entropy bound along a sequence of critical points. Finally, we combine these results to solve quite general min-max problems for the $n$-energy modulo bubbling.

A Local Singularity Analysis for the Ricci Flow and its Applications to Ricci Flows with Bounded Scalar Curvature

We develop a refined singularity analysis for the Ricci flow by investigating curvature blow-up rates locally. We first introduce general definitions of Type I and Type II singular points and show that these are indeed the only possible types of singular points. In particular, near any singular point the Riemannian curvature tensor has to blow up at least at a Type I rate, generalising a result of Enders, Topping and the first author that relied on a global Type I assumption. We also prove analogous results for the Ricci tensor, as well as a localised version of Sesum's result, namely that the Ricci curvature must blow up near every singular point of a Ricci flow, again at least at a Type I rate. Finally, we show some applications of the theory to Ricci flows with bounded scalar curvature.

Double Bubbles with High Constant Mean Curvatures in Riemannian Manifolds

We obtain existence of double bubbles of large and constant mean curvatures in Riemannian manifolds. These arise as perturbations of geodesic standard double bubbles centered at critical points of the ambient scalar curvature and aligned along eigen-vectors of the ambient Ricci tensor. We also obtain general multiplicity results via Lusternik-Schnirelman theory, and extra ones in case of double bubbles whose opposite boundaries have the same mean curvature.

Mixed Integral Norms for Ricci Flow

We prove that a Ricci flow cannot develop a finite time singularity assuming the boundedness of a suitable space-time integral norm of the curvature tensor. Moreover, the extensibility of the flow is proved under a Ricci lower bound and the boundedness of a space-time integral norm of the scalar curvature.

Analysis of Type I Singularities in the Harmonic Ricci Flow

In 2011 Enders, Müller and Topping showed that any blow up sequence of a Type I Ricci flow near a singular point converges to a non-trivial gradient Ricci soliton, leading them to conclude that for such flows all reasonable definitions of singular points agree with each other. We prove the analogous result for the harmonic Ricci flow, generalizing in particular results of Guo, Huang and Phong and Shi. In order to obtain our result, we develop refined compactness theorems, a new pseudolocality theorem, and a notion of reduced length and volume based at the singular time for the harmonic Ricci flow.
