Probabilistic small data global well-posedness of the energy-critical Maxwell-Klein-Gordon equation

We establish probabilistic small data global well-posedness of the energy-critical Maxwell-Klein-Gordon equation relative to the Coulomb gauge for scaling super-critical random initial data. The proof relies on an induction on frequency procedure and a modified linear-nonlinear decomposition furnished by a delicate "probabilistic" parametrix construction. This is the first global existence result for a geometric wave equation for random initial data at scaling super-critical regularity.

On the high-low method for NLS on the hyperbolic space

In this paper, we first prove that the cubic, defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation on the two dimensional hyperbolic space with radial initial data in $H^s(\mathbb{H}^2)$ is globally well-posed and scatters when $s > \frac{3}{4}$. Then we extend the result to nonlineraities of order $p>3$. The result is proved by extending the high-low method of Bourgain in the hyperbolic setting and by using a Morawetz type estimate proved by the first author and Ionescu.

On the nonlinear Dysthe equation

This work is dedicated to putting on a solid analytic ground the theory of local well-posedness for the two dimensional Dysthe equation. This equation can be derived from the incompressible Navier-Stokes equation after performing an asymptotic expansion of a wavetrain modulation to the fourth order. Recently, this equation has been used to numerically study rare phenomena on large water bodies such as rogue waves. In order to study well-posedness, we use Strichartz, and improved smoothing and maximal function estimates. We follow ideas from the pioneering work of Kenig, Ponce and Vega, but since the equation is highly anisotropic, several technical challenges had to be resolved. We conclude our work by also presenting an ill-posedness result.

Revisitation of a Tartar's result on a semilinear hyperbolic system with null condition

We revisit a method introduced by Tartar for proving global well-posedness of a semilinear hyperbolic system with null quadratic source in one space dimension. A remarkable point is that, since no dispersion effect is available for 1D hyperbolic systems, Tartar's approach is entirely based on spatial localization and finite speed of propagation.

Smoothing effect for time-degenerate Schrödinger operators

In this work we consider an example of a linear time-degenerate Schrödinger operator. We show that with the appropriate assumptions the operator satisfies a Kato smoothing effect. We also show that the solutions to the nonlinear initial value problems involving this operator and polynomial derivative nonlinearities are locally well-posed and their solutions also satisfy the same smoothing estimates as the linear solutions.

Stability of the Cubic Nonlinear Schrodinger Equation on Irrational Tori

A characteristic of the defocusing cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE), when defined so that the space variable is the multi-dimensional square (hence rational) torus, is that there exist solutions that start with arbitrarily small norms Sobolev norms and evolve to develop arbitrarily large modes at later times; this phenomenon is recognized as a weak energy transfer to high modes for the NLSE. In this paper, we show that when the system is considered on an irrational torus, energy transfer is more difficult to detect.

Poisson Commuting Energies for a System of Infinitely Many Bosons

We consider the cubic Gross-Pitaevskii (GP) hierarchy in one spatial dimension. We establish the existence of an infinite sequence of observables such that the corresponding trace functionals, which we call ``energies,'' commute with respect to the weak Lie-Poisson structure defined by the authors in arXiv:1908.03847. The Hamiltonian equation associated to the third energy functional is precisely the GP hierarchy. The equations of motion corresponding to the remaining energies generalize the well-known nonlinear Schrödinger hierarchy, the third element of which is the one-dimensional cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation. This work provides substantial evidence for the GP hierarchy as a new integrable system.

A Rigorous Derivation of the Hamiltonian Structure for the Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation

We consider the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) in any spatial dimension, which is a well-known example of an infinite-dimensional Hamiltonian system. Inspired by the knowledge that the NLS is an effective equation for a system of interacting bosons as the particle number tends to infinity, we provide a derivation of the Hamiltonian structure, which is comprised of both a Hamiltonian functional and a weak symplectic structure, for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation from quantum many-body systems. Our geometric constructions are based on a quantized version of the Poisson structure introduced by Marsden, Morrison and Weinstein for a system describing the evolution of finitely many indistinguishable classical particles.

An infinite sequence of conserved quantities for the cubic Gross-Pitaevskii hierarchy on $\mathbb{R}$

We consider the (de)focusing cubic Gross-Pitaevskii (GP) hierarchy on $\mathbb{R}$, which is an infinite hierarchy of coupled linear inhomogeneous PDE which appears in the derivation of the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation from quantum many-particle systems. Motivated by the fact that the cubic NLS on $\mathbb{R}$ is an integrable equation which admits infinitely many conserved quantities, we exhibit an infinite sequence of operators which generate analogous conserved quantities for the GP hierarchy.

The Surface Quasi-Geostrophic Equation with Random Diffusion

Consider the surface quasi-geostrophic equation with random diffusion, white in time. We show global existence and uniqueness in high probability for the associated Cauchy problem satisfying a Gevrey type bound. This article is inspired by recent work of Glatt-Holtz and Vicol.

Almost sure boundedness of iterates for derivative nonlinear wave equations

We study nonlinear wave equations on $\mathbb R^{2+1}$ with quadratic derivative nonlinearities, which include in particular nonlinearities exhibiting a null form structure, with random initial data in $H_x^1\times L^2_x$. In contrast to the counterexamples of Zhou \cite{Zhou} and Foschi-Klainerman \cite{FK}, we obtain a uniform time interval $I$ on which the Picard iterates of all orders are almost surely bounded in $C_t(I ; \dot H_x^1)$.

Linear waves in sheared flows. Lower bound of the vorticity growth and propagation discontinuities in the parameters space

This study provides sufficient conditions for the temporal monotonic decay of enstrophy for two-dimensional perturbations traveling in the incompressible, viscous, plane Poiseuille and Couette flows. Extension of J. L. Synge's procedure (1938) to the initial-value problem allowed us to find the region of the wavenumber-Reynolds number map where the enstrophy of any initial disturbance cannot grow. This region is wider than the kinetic energy's one. We also show that the parameters space is split in two regions with clearly distinct propagation and dispersion properties.

On a bilinear Strichartz estimate on irrational tori and some application

We prove a bilinear Strichartz type estimate for irrational tori via a decoupling type argument, \cite{bourgain2014proof}, recovering and generalizing the result of \cite{de2006global}. As a corollary, we derive a global well-posedness result for the cubic defocusing NLS on two dimensional irrational tori with data of infinite energy.

Global Flows with Invariant Measures for the Inviscid Modified SQG Equations

We consider the family known as modified or generalized surface quasi-geostrophic equations (mSQG) consisting of the classical inviscid surface quasi-geostrophic (SQG) equation together with a family of regularized active scalars given by introducing a smoothing operator of nonzero but possibly arbitrarily small degree. This family naturally interpolates between the 2D Euler equation and the SQG equation. For this family of equations we construct an invariant measure on a rough $L^2$-based Sobolev space and establish the existence of solutions of arbitrarily large lifespan for initial data in a set of full measure in the rough Sobolev space.

Probabilistic preservation of regularity for periodic nonlinear Schrödinger equations

For certain non linear evolution equations, existence of global in time flows for large data is a fundamental and difficult question. In general, for dispersive and wave equations high regularity of the data does not automatically guarantee the existence of a global flow. One first needs to prove a global result at a level of regularity that matches that of a conserved quantity. Then, preservation of regularity allows to prove that the global flow exists for all smoother data. This mechanism cannot be applied in the non deterministic setting, such as the global well-posedness on the statistical ensemble of an invariant (Gibbs) measure, first obtained by Bourgain. We present a new and general technique to prove that data smoother than those in the statistical ensemble give rise to global flows, despite the fact that the measures carried by such smoother data are no longer invariant. As a consequence we close an important gap in the existence of global solutions for certain nonlinear Schrödinger equations.

Randomization and the Gross-Pitaevskii hierarchy

We study the Gross-Pitaevskii hierarchy on the spatial domain $\mathbb{T}^3$. By using an appropriate randomization of the Fourier coefficients in the collision operator, we prove an averaged form of the main estimate which is used in order to contract the Duhamel terms that occur in the study of the hierarchy. In the averaged estimate, we do not need to integrate in the time variable. An averaged spacetime estimate for this range of regularity exponents then follows as a direct corollary. The range of regularity exponents that we obtain is $α>\frac{3}{4}$. It was shown in our previous joint work with Gressman that the range $α>1$ is sharp in the corresponding deterministic spacetime estimate. This is in contrast to the non-periodic setting, which was studied by Klainerman and Machedon, in which the spacetime estimate is known to hold whenever $α\geq 1$. The goal of our paper is to extend the range of $α$ in this class of estimates in a \emph{probabilistic sense}. We use the new estimate and the ideas from its proof in order to study randomized forms of the Gross-Pitaevskii hierarchy. More precisely, we consider hierarchies similar to the Gross-Pitaevskii hierarchy, but in which the collision operator has been randomized. For these hierarchies, we show convergence to zero in low regularity Sobolev spaces of Duhamel expansions of fixed deterministic density matrices. We believe that the study of the randomized collision operators could be the first step in the understanding of a nonlinear form of randomization.

A Semi-linear Shifted Wave Equation on the Hyperbolic Spaces with Application on a Quintic Wave Equation on ${\mathbb R}^2$

In this paper we consider a semi-linear, defocusing, shifted wave equation on the hyperbolic space \[ \partial_t^2 u - (Δ_{{\mathbb H}^n} + ρ^2) u = - |u|^{p-1} u, \quad (x,t)\in {\mathbb H}^n \times {\mathbb R}; \] and introduce a Morawetz-type inequality \[ \int_{-T_-}^{T_+} \int_{{\mathbb H}^n} |u|^{p+1} dμdt < C E, \] where $E$ is the energy. Combining this inequality with a well-posedness theory, we can establish a scattering result for solutions with initial data in $H^{1/2,1/2} \times H^{1/2,-1/2}({\mathbb H}^n)$ if $2 \leq n \leq 6$ and $1 0. \]
