On small modules for quantum groups at roots of unity

A conjecture of De Concini Kac and Procesi provides a bound on the minimal possible dimension of an irreducible module for quantized enveloping algebras at an odd root of unity. We pose the problem of the existence of modules whose dimension equals this bound. We show that this question cannot have a positive answer in full generality and discuss variants of this question.

$θ$-semisimple twisted conjugacy classes of type D in $\operatorname{PSL}_n(q)$

Let $p$ be an odd prime, $m\in {\mathbb N}$ and set $q=p^m$, $G=\operatorname{PSL}_n(q)$. Let $θ$ be a standard graph automorphism of $G$, $d$ be a diagonal automorphism and $\operatorname{Fr}_q$ be the Frobenius endomorphism of $\operatorname{PSL}_n(\overline{{\mathbb F}_q})$. We show that every $(d\circ θ)$-conjugacy class of a $(d\circ θ,p)$-regular element in $G$ is represented in some $\operatorname{Fr}_q$-stable maximal torus and that most of them are of type D. We write out the possible exceptions and show that, in particular, if $n\geq5$ is either odd or a multiple of $4$ and $q>7$, then all such classes are of type D. We develop general arguments to deal with twisted classes in finite groups.

A Katsylo theorem for sheets of spherical conjugacy classes

We show that, for a sheet or a Lusztig stratum S containing spherical conjugacy classes in a connected reductive algebraic group G over an algebraically closed field in good characteristic, the orbit space S/G is isomorphic to the quotient of an affine subvariety of G modulo the action of a finite abelian 2-group. The affine subvariety is a closed subset of a Bruhat double coset and the abelian group is a finite subgroup of a maximal torus of G. We show that sheets of spherical conjugacy classes in a simple group are always smooth and we list which strata containing spherical classes are smooth.

On Lusztig's map for spherical unipotent conjugacy classes

We provide an alternative description of the restriction to spherical unipotent conjugacy classes, of Lusztig's map Psi from the set of unipotent conjugacy classes in a connected reductive algebraic group to the set of conjugacy classes of its Weyl group. For irreducible root systems, we analyze the image of this restricted map and we prove that a conjugacy class in a finite Weyl group has a unique maximal length element if and only if it has a maximum.

Induced conjugacy classes and induced U_e(G)-modules

By work of De Concini, Kac and Procesi the irreducible representations of the non-restricted specialization of the quantized enveloping algebra of the Lie algebra g at the roots of unity are parametrized by the conjugacy classes of a group G with Lie(G)=g. We show that there is a natural dimension preserving bijection between the sets of irreducible representations associated with conjugacy classes lying in the same Jordan class (decomposition class). We conjecture a relation for representations associated with classes lying in the same sheet of G, providing two alternative formulations. We underline some evidence and illustrate potential consequences.

On spherical twisted conjugacy classes

Let G be a simple algebraic group over an algebraically closed field of good odd characteristic, and let theta be an automorphism of G arising from an involution of its Dynkin diagram. We show that the spherical theta-twisted conjugacy classes are precisely those intersecting only Bruhat cells corresponding to twisted involutions in the Weyl group. We show how the analogue of this statement fails in the triality case. We generalize to good odd characteristic J-H. Lu's dimension formula for spherical twisted conjugacy classes.

On sheets of conjugacy classes in good characteristic

We show that the sheets for a connected reductive algebraic group G over an algebraically closed field in good characteristic acting on itself by conjugation are in bijection with G-conjugacy classes of triples (M, Z(M)^\circ t, O) where M is the connected centralizer of a semisimple element in G, Z(M)^\circ t is a suitable coset in Z(M)/Z(M)^\circ and O is a rigid unipotent conjugacy class in M. Any semisimple element is contained in a unique sheet S and S corresponds to a triple with O={1}. The sheets in G containing a unipotent conjugacy class are precisely those corresponding to triples for which M is a Levi subgroup of a parabolic subgroup of G and such a class is unique.

On the subgroup structure of the full Brauer group of Sweedler Hopf algebra

We introduce a family of three parameters 2-dimensional algebras representing elements in the Brauer group BQ(k,H_4) of Sweedler Hopf algebra H_4 over a field k. They allow us to describe the mutual intersection of the subgroups arising from a quasitriangular or coquasitriangular structure. We also introduce a new subgroup of BQ(k,H_4) whose elements are represented by algebras for which the two natural Z_2-gradings coincide. We construct an exact sequence relating this subgroup to the Brauer group of Nichols 8-dimensional Hopf algebra E(2) with respect to the quasitriangular structure attached to the 2x2-matrix N with 1 in the (1,2)-entry and zero elsewhere.

Spherical conjugacy classes and Bruhat decomposition

Let G be a connected, reductive algebraic group over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero or good and odd. We characterize the spherical conjugacy classes of G as those intersecting only Bruhat cells corresponding to involutions in the Weyl group of G.

Spherical conjugacy classes and involutions in the Weyl group

Let G be a simple algebraic group over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero or positive odd, good characteristic. Let B be a Borel subgroup of G. We show that the spherical conjugacy classes of G intersect only the double cosets of B in G corresponding to involutions in the Weyl group of G. This result is used to prove that for a spherical conjugacy class O with dense B-orbit v_0 contained in BwB there holds l(w)+rk(1-w)=dim(O) extending a characterization of spherical conjugacy classes obtained by N. Cantarini, M. Costantini and the author to the case of groups over fields of odd, good characteristic.

The Brauer group of modified supergroup algebras

The computation of the Brauer group BM of modified supergroup algebras is perfomed, yielding, in particular, the computation of the Brauer group of all finite-dimensional triangular Hopf algebras when the base field is algebraically closed and of characteristic zero. The results are compared with the computation of lazy cohomology and with Yinhuo Zhang's exact sequence. As an example, we compute explicitely the Brauer group and lazy cohomology for modified supergroup algebras with (extensions of) Weyl groups of irreducible root systems as a group datum and their standard representation as a representation datum.

Lazy cohomology: an analogue of the Schur multiplier for arbitrary Hopf algebras

We propose a detailed systematic study of a group H^2_L(A) associated, by elementary means of lazy 2-cocycles, to any Hopf algebra A. This group was introduced by Schauenburg (with a different name) in order to generalize G.I. Kac's exact sequence. We study the various interplays of lazy cohomology in Hopf algebra theory: Galois and biGalois objects, Brauer groups and projective representations. We obtain a Kac-Schauenburg-type sequence for double crossed products of possibly infinite-dimensional Hopf algebras. Finally the explicit computation of H^2_L(A) for monomial Hopf algebras and for a class of cotriangular Hopf algebras is performed.

When is a cleft extension Azumaya?

We show which $H^{op}$-cleft extensions $k#_σH^{op}$ of the base field $k$ for a dual quasitriangular Hopf algebra $(H, r)$ are $H$-Azumaya. The result is given in terms of bijectivity of a map $θ_σ\colon H\to H^*$ defined in terms of $r$ and the 2-cocycle $σ$, generalizing a well-known result for the commutative and cocommutative case. We illustrate the Theorem with an explicit computation for the Hopf algebras of type E(n).
