The cluster modular group of the dimer model

Associated to a convex integral polygon $N$ is a cluster integrable system $\mathcal X_N$ constructed from the dimer model. We compute the group $G_N$ of symmetries of $\mathcal X_N$, called the (2-2) cluster modular group, showing that it is a certain abelian group conjectured by Fock and Marshakov. Combinatorially, non-torsion elements of $G_N$ are ways of shuffling the underlying bipartite graph, generalizing domino-shuffling. Algebro-geometrically, $G_N$ is a subgroup of the Picard group of a certain algebraic surface associated to $N$.

Stable pairs with a twist and gluing morphisms for moduli of surfaces

We propose an alternative definition for families of stable pairs $(X,D)$ over a possibly non-reduced base when $D$ is reduced, by replacing $(X,D)$ with an appropriate orbifold pair $(\mathcal X,\mathcal D)$. This definition of a stable family ends up being equivalent to previous ones, but has the advantage of being more amenable to the tools of deformation theory. Moreover, adjunction for $(\mathcal X,\mathcal D)$ holds on the nose; there is no correction term coming from the different. This leads to the existence of functorial gluing morphisms for families of stable surfaces and functorial morphisms from $(n + 1)$ dimensional stable pairs to $n$ dimensional polarized orbispace. As an application, we study the deformation theory of some surface pairs.

Moduli of Weierstrass fibrations with marked section

We study the the moduli space of KSBA stable pairs $(X,sS+\sum a_i F_i)$, consisting of a Weierstrass fibration $X$, its section $S$, and some fibers $F_i$. We find a compactification which is a DM stack, and we describe the objects on the boundary. We show that the fibration in the definition of Weierstrass fibration extends to the boundary, and it is equidimensional when $s \ll 1$. We prove that there are wall-crossing morphisms when the weights $s$ and $a_i$ change. When $s=1$, this recovers the work of La Nave (arXiv:math/0205035); and a special case of the work of Ascher-Bejleri (arXiv:1702.06107).

Moduli of weighted stable elliptic surfaces and invariance of log plurigenera

This is the third paper in a series of work on weighted stable elliptic surfaces - elliptic fibrations with section and marked fibers weighted between zero and one. Motivated by Hassett's weighted pointed stable curves, we use the log minimal model program to construct compact moduli spaces parameterizing these objects. Moreoever, we show that the domain of weights admits a wall and chamber structure, we describe the induced wall crossing morphisms on the moduli spaces as the weight vector varies, and describe the surfaces that appear on the boundary of the moduli space. The main technical result is a proof of invariance of log plurigenera for slc elliptic surface pairs with arbitrary weights.
