Push-forward of Hopf--Galois extensions: the non central case

We study the push-forward of Hopf--Galois extensions as the algebraic counterpart of the pullback of principal bundles. We apply the theory of twisted tensor product algebras to endow covariant extensions of modules along a map $\mathsf{F}$ with an algebra structure, under compatibility conditions between $\mathsf{F}$ and the twisting map. The push-forward of an $H$-Galois extension $B \subset A$ along a map $\mathsf{F} : B \to C$ is an $H$-Galois extension of $C$. The corresponding Ehresmann--Schauenburg algebroids are compared.

On characteristic classes of vector bundles over quantum spheres

We study the quantization of spaces whose K-theory in the classical limit is the ring of dual numbers $\mathbb{Z}[t]/(t^2)$. For a compact Hausdorff space we recall necessary and sufficient conditions for this to hold. For a compact quantum space, we give sufficient conditions that guarantee there is a morphism of abelian groups $K_0 \to \mathbb{Z}[t]/(t^2)$ compatible with the tensor product of bimodules. Applications include the standard Podle\'s sphere $S^2_q$ and a quantum $4$-sphere $S^4_q$ coming from quantum symplectic groups. For the latter, the K-theory is generated by the Euler class of the instanton bundle. We give explicit formulas for the projections of vector bundles on $S^4_q$ associated to the principal $SU_q(2)$-bundle $S^7_q \to S^4_q$ via irreducible corepresentations of $SU_q(2)$, and compute their characteristic classes.

Hopf algebroids and twists for quantum projective spaces

We study the relationship between antipodes on a Hopf algebroid $\mathcal{H}$ in the sense of Böhm-Szlachanyi and the group of twists that lies inside the associated convolution algebra. We specialize to the case of a faithfully flat $H$-Hopf-Galois extensions $B\subseteq A$ and related Ehresmann-Schauenburg bialgebroid. In particular, we find that the twists are in one-to-one correspondence with $H$-comodule algebra automorphism of $A$. We work out in detail the $U(1)$-extension ${\mathcal O}(\mathbb{C}P^{n-1}_q)\subseteq {\mathcal O}(S^{2n-1}_q)$ on the quantum projective space and show how to get an antipode on the bialgebroid out of the $K$-theory of the base algebra ${\mathcal O}(\mathbb{C}P^{n-1}_q)$.

On the geometry of quantum spheres and hyperboloids

We study two classes of quantum spheres and hyperboloids which are $*$-quantum spaces for the quantum orthogonal group $\mathcal{O}(SO_q(3))$. We construct line bundles over the quantum homogeneous space of invariant elements for the quantum subgroup $SO(2)$ of $SO_q(3)$. These are associated to the quantum principal bundle via corepresentations of $SO(2)$ and are given by finitely-generated projective modules $\mathcal{E}_n$ of rank $1$ and even degree $-2n$. The corresponding idempotents, representing classes in K-theory, are explicitly worked out. For $q$ real, we diagonalise the Casimir operator of the Hopf algebra ${\mathcal{U}_{q^{1/2}}(sl_2)}$ dual to $\mathcal{O}(SO_q(3))$.

Atiyah sequences of braided Lie algebras and their splittings

Associated with an equivariant noncommutative principal bundle we give an Atiyah sequence of braided derivations whose splittings give connections on the bundle. Vertical braided derivations act as infinitesimal gauge transformations on connections. For the $SU(2)$-principal bundle over the sphere $S^{4}_\theta$ an equivariant splitting of the Atiyah sequence recovers the instanton connection. An infinitesimal action of the braided conformal Lie algebra $so_\theta(5,1)$ yields a five parameter family of splittings. On the principal $SO_\theta(2n,\mathbb{R})$-bundle of orthonormal frames over the sphere $S^{2n}_\theta$, the splitting of the sequence leads to the Levi-Civita connection for the `round' metric on the $S^{2n}_\theta$. The corresponding Riemannian geometry of $S^{2n}_\theta$ is worked out.

Braided Hopf algebras and gauge transformations II: $*$-structures and examples

We consider noncommutative principal bundles which are equivariant under a triangular Hopf algebra. We present explicit examples of infinite dimensional braided Lie and Hopf algebras of infinitesimal gauge transformations of bundles on noncommutative spheres. The braiding of these algebras is implemented by the triangular structure of the symmetry Hopf algebra. We present a systematic analysis of compatible $*$-structures, encompassing the quasitriangular case.

Tolerance Relations and Quantization

It is well known that "bad" quotient spaces (typically: non-Hausdorff) can be studied by associating to them the groupoid C*-algebra of an equivalence relation, that in the "nice" cases is Morita equivalent to the C*-algebra of continuous functions vanishing at infinity on the quotient space. It was recently proposed by A. Connes and W.D. van Suijlekom that a similar procedure for relations that are reflexive and symmetric but fail to be transitive (i.e. tolerance relations) leads to an operator system. In this paper we observe that such an operator system carries a natural product that, although in general non-associative, arises in a number of relevant examples. We relate this product to truncations of (C*-algebras of) topological spaces, discuss some geometric aspects and a connection with positive operator valued measures.

Braided Hopf algebras and gauge transformations

We study infinitesimal gauge transformations of an equivariant noncommutative principal bundle as a braided Lie algebra of derivations. For this, we analyse general $K$-braided Hopf and Lie algebras, for $K$ a (quasi)triangular Hopf algebra of symmetries, and study their representations as braided derivations. We then study Drinfeld twist deformations of braided Hopf algebras and of Lie algebras of infinitesimal gauge transformations. We give examples coming from deformations of abelian and Jordanian type. In particular we explicitly describe the braided Lie algebra of gauge transformations of the instanton bundle and of the orthogonal bundle on the quantum sphere $S^4_θ$.

Levi-Civita connections on quantum spheres

We introduce $q$-deformed connections on the quantum 2-sphere and 3-sphere, satisfying a twisted Leibniz rule in analogy with $q$-deformed derivations. We show that such connections always exist on projective modules. Furthermore, a condition for metric compatibility is introduced, and an explicit formula is given, parametrizing all metric connections on a free module. On the quantum 3-sphere, a q-deformed torsion freeness condition is introduced and we derive explicit expressions for the Christoffel symbols of a Levi-Civita connection for a general class of metrics. We also give metric connections on a class of projective modules over the quantum 2-sphere. Finally, we outline a generalization to any Hopf algebra with a (left) covariant calculus and associated quantum tangent space.

Hopf algebroids from noncommutative bundles

We present two classes of examples of Hopf algebroids associated with noncommutative principal bundles. The first comes from deforming the principal bundle while leaving unchanged the structure Hopf algebra. The second is related to deforming a quantum homogeneous space; this needs a careful deformation of the structure Hopf algebra in order to preserve the compatibilities between the Hopf algebra operations.

Gauge groups and bialgebroids

We study the Ehresmann--Schauenburg bialgebroid of a noncommutative principal bundle as a quantization of the gauge groupoid of a classical principal bundle. We show that the gauge group of the noncommutative bundle is isomorphic to the group of bisections of the bialgebroid, and we give a crossed module structure for the bisections and the automorphisms of the bialgebroid. Examples illustrating these constructions include: Galois objects of Taft algebras, a monopole bundle over a quantum spheres and a not faithfully flat Hopf--Galois extension of commutative algebras. The latter two examples have in fact a structure of Hopf algebroid for a suitable invertible antipode.

Lie Bi-Algebras on the Non-Commutative Torus

Infinitesimal symmetries of a classical mechanical system are usually described by a Lie algebra acting on the phase space, preserving the Poisson brackets. We propose that a quantum analogue is the action of a Lie bi-algebra on the associative $*$-algebra of observables. The latter can be thought of as functions on some underlying non-commutative manifold. We illustrate this for the non-commutative torus $\mathbb{T}^2_θ$. The canonical trace defines a Manin triple from which a Lie bi-algebra can be constructed. In the special case of rational $θ=\frac{M}{N}$ this Lie bi-algebra is $\underline{GL}(N)=\underline{U}(N)\oplus \underline{B}(N)$, corresponding to unitary and upper triangular matrices. The Lie bi-algebra has a remnant in the classical limit $N\to\infty$: the elements of $\underline{U}(N)$ tend to real functions while $\underline{B}(N)$ tends to a space of complex analytic functions.

On the gauge group of Galois objects

We study the Ehresmann--Schauenburg bialgebroid of a noncommutative principal bundle as a quantization of the classical gauge groupoid of a principal bundle. When the base algebra is in the centre of the total space algebra, the gauge group of the noncommutative principal bundle is isomorphic to the group of bisections of the bialgebroid. In particular we consider Galois objects (non-trivial noncommutative bundles over a point in a sense) for which the bialgebroid is a Hopf algebra. For these we give a crossed module structure for the bisections and the automorphisms of the bialgebroid. Examples include Galois objects of group Hopf algebras and of Taft algebras.

Projections, modules and connections for the noncommutative cylinder

We initiate a study of projections and modules over a noncommutative cylinder, a simple example of a noncompact noncommutative manifold. Since its algebraic structure turns out to have many similarities with the noncommutative torus, one can develop several concepts in a close analogy with the latter. In particular, we exhibit a countable number of nontrivial projections in the algebra of the noncommutative cylinder itself, and show that they provide concrete representatives for each class in the corresponding $K_0$ group. We also construct a class of bimodules endowed with connections of constant curvature. Furthermore, with the noncommutative cylinder considered from the perspective of pseudo-Riemannian calculi, we derive an explicit expression for the Levi-Civita connection and compute the Gaussian curvature.

Levi-Civita connections and vector fields for noncommutative differential calculi

We study covariant derivatives on a class of centered bimodules $\mathcal{E}$ over an algebra A. We begin by identifying a $\mathbb{Z} ( A ) $-submodule $ \mathcal{X} ( A ) $ which can be viewed as the analogue of vector fields in this context; $ \mathcal{X} ( A ) $ is proven to be a Lie algebra. Connections on $\mathcal{E}$ are in one to one correspondence with covariant derivatives on $ \mathcal{X} ( A ). $ We recover the classical formulas of torsion and metric compatibility of a connection in the covariant derivative form. As a result, a Koszul formula for the Levi-Civita connection is also derived.

On q-deformed Levi-Civita connections

We explore the possibility of introducing q-deformed connections on the quantum 2-sphere and 3-sphere, satisfying a twisted Leibniz rule in analogy with q-deformed derivations. We show that such connections always exist on projective modules. Furthermore, a condition for metric compatibility is introduced, and an explicit formula is given, parametrizing all metric connections on a free module. For the module of 1-forms on the quantum 3-sphere, a q-deformed torsion freeness condition is introduced and we derive explicit expressions for the Christoffel symbols of a Levi-Civita connection for a general class of metrics satisfying a certain reality condition. Finally, we construct metric connections on a class of projective modules over the quantum 2-sphere.

On the Koszul formula in noncommutative geometry

We prove a Koszul formula for the Levi-Civita connection for any pseudo-Riemannian bilinear metric on a class of centered bimodule of noncommutative one-forms. As an application to the Koszul formula, we show that our Levi-Civita connection is a bimodule connection. We construct a spectral triple on a fuzzy sphere and compute the scalar curvature for the Levi-Civita connection associated to a canonical metric.
