Minor loops of the Dahl and LuGre models

Hysteresis is a special type of behavior encountered in physical systems: in a hysteretic system, when the input is periodic and varies slowly, the steady-state part of the output-versus-input graph becomes a loop called hysteresis loop. In the presence of perturbed inputs, this hysteresis loop presents small lobes called minor loops that are located inside a larger curve called major loop. The study of minor loops is being increasingly popular since it leads to a quantification of the loss of energy. The aim of the present paper is to give an explicit analytic expression of the minor loops of the LuGre and the Dahl models of dynamic dry friction.

Experimental realization of the Furuta pendulum to emulate the Segway motion

A Laboratory device is designed to emulate the Segway motion, modifying the Furuta pendulum experiment. To copy the person on the Segway transportation unit to the Furuta pendulum, a second pendulum is added to the main one. Using LMI theory, the control objective consists to manipulate the base of the Furuta pendulum according to the inclination of the added pendulum whereas the coupled pendulums are maintained near to theirs upright positions. According to the inclination of the second pendulum, the base will rotate as long as the second pendulum remains inclined, emulating the Segway behavior. The base rotation will depend on the side of the inclination too. Experimental results are offered too (video link: http://youtu.be/SHQdW3k3qiE).

Reliable Control for Parameterized Interconnected Systems using LMI techniques

This work presents the design of a reliable decentralized state feedback control for a class of uncertain interconnected polytopic continous systems. A model of failures in actuators is adopted which considers outages or partial degradation in independent actuators. The control is developed using the concept of guaranteed cost control and a new LMI characterization using polytopic Lyapunov functions.
