A Novel $q$-Derivative Framework with Applications to $q$-Deformed Thermodynamics and Leakage Suppression in Superconducting Qubits

We propose a new $q$-derivative operator built directly from Jackson's $q$-number formulation, designed to preserve the structural properties of standard differential calculus while incorporating deformation effects. By analyzing $q$-deformed Heisenberg algebras, we demonstrate that this formulation maintains the consistency of thermodynamic quantities-such as internal energy, particle number, and specific heat-in dilute gas limits without requiring ad-hoc chain-rule modifications. Furthermore, we explore the physical implications of algebraic deformation using the Biedenharn-Macfarlane realization, showing how $q$-deformation induces intrinsic anharmonicity in quantum oscillator spectra and affects multi-level quantum systems ($d \ge 3$). Applying this algebraic scheme to superconducting transmon qubits, we derive analytical pulse-shaping corrections that generalize the Derivative Removal by Adiabatic Gate (DRAG) technique, offering a robust method to suppress computational leakage in ultra-fast quantum logic operations.

Physics in the Public Square: University Extension as a Strategy for Integrating Physics Education and Science Communication

University extension activities play a fundamental role in bridging the gap between academia and society by fostering the socialization of scientific knowledge. This study reports and analyzes an outreach activity conducted in a public space, involving undergraduate students enrolled in Physics I, Physics III, and Physics IV courses within the Physics Teacher Education Program at the State University of the Tocantina Region of Maranhao (UEMASUL). The activity was developed through the design and presentation of didactic experiments using low-cost materials. Its main objectives were to disseminate fundamental physics concepts to the community, stimulate public interest in science, and provide pre-service teachers with a formative experience integrating theory, practice, and social responsibility. Data were collected from questionnaires adminisvelopment of communication skills, and the strengthening of the university's social role, while also fostering scientific curitered to visitors (n = 52). The results indicate that the activity significantly contributed to student learning, the deosity among participants.

Comment on "Effective of the q-deformed pseudoscalar magnetic field on the charge carriers in graphene"

We point out a misleading treatment in a recent paper published in this Journal [J. Math. Phys. (2016) 57, 082105] concerning solutions for the two-dimensional Dirac-Weyl equation with a q-deformed pseudoscalar magnetic barrier. The authors misunderstood the full meaning of the potential and made erroneous calculations, this fact jeopardizes the main results in this system.
