New Methods for Constructing Classical and Quantum Codes from Graphs and Matroids

In this paper, we present a method for constructing linear codes derived from book graphs. Applying such a method, we construct binary codes that have the greatest possible minimum distance for their length and dimension by means of the $2$-sum of two equal book graphs. We then utilize matroid and graph theory together to investigate some properties of the resulting linear codes. Furthermore, we show that, from the incidence matrix of any graph, we can obtain a linear code over any finite field maintaining the same parameters. Furthermore, we show how the condition for two linear codes to generate a Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) code translates into matroid theory and, utilizing cycle graphs, we exhibit a way to generate codes that meet this condition.

Encoding matroids into quantum states

Efficient representations of multipartite quantum states play a fundamental role in quantum information theory, providing both conceptual insight and practical tools for characterizing entanglement. Motivated by the axiomatic framework for graph states [Phys. Rev. A 85, 062313 (2012)] and its subsequent extension to hypergraph states [Phys. Rev. A 87, 022311 (2013)], we introduce an axiomatic construction of \emph{matroid states}, a new family of multipartite quantum states associated with matroids. Our constructions are based on a set of axioms analogous to those that define graph and hypergraph states, yielding a consistent quantum representation of arbitrary matroids. Two ways of constructing matroid states are proposed: the first is defined in terms of circuits, and the second in terms of independent sets. In both approaches, we establish the existence of universal global operators that satisfy desirable properties such as locality, symmetry, commutativity, and are associated with the combinatorial structure of matroids. Furthermore, we establish a hierarchy connecting graph, matroid, and hypergraph states within a unified framework. Additionally, we show how to obtain an arbitrary graph state by applying suitable families of matroid states, whose corresponding operators are the generators of the stabilizer subgroup of the graph state. These results identify matroid theory as a natural combinatorial language for the efficient description of multipartite quantum states and open new perspectives for the investigation of quantum entanglement and related combinatorial structures.

Floquet Codes from Derived Semi-Regular Hyperbolic Tessellations on Orientable and Non-Orientable Surfaces

In this paper, we construct several new quantum Floquet codes on compact, orientable, as well as non-orientable surfaces. In order to obtain such codes, we identify these surfaces with hyperbolic polygons and examine hyperbolic semi-regular tessellations on such surfaces. The method of construction presented here generalizes similar constructions concerning hyperbolic Floquet codes on connected and compact surfaces with genus $g \geq 2$. A performance analysis and an investigation of the asymptotic behavior of these codes are also presented.

Asymmetric quantum codes on non-orientable surfaces

In this paper, we construct new families of asymmetric quantum surface codes (AQSCs) over non-orientable surfaces of genus $g\geq 2$ by applying tools of hyperbolic geometry. More precisely, we prove that if the genus $g$ of a non-orientable surface is even $(g=2h)$, then the parameters of the corresponding AQSC are equal to the parameters of a surface code obtained from an orientable surface of genus $h$. Additionally, if $S$ is a non-orientable surface of genus $g$, we show that the new surface code constructed on a $\{p, q\}$ tessellation over $S$ has the ratio $k/n$ better than the ratio of an AQSC constructed on the same $\{p, q\}$ tessellation over an orientable surface of the same genus $g$.

Fractional Finite Sums Theory: a motivation and some new results

This paper is concerned with the study of the fractional finite sums theory. We present the classes of functions for which it is possible to characterize the constant related to the derivative of fractional sums (denominated by essence of a function). Examples of the essences of functions are presented, including the Bernoulli numbers, which are obtained as essences of the functions $f(x)=x^a$, $a \in \mathbb{N}^*$. Based on the new results, we can expand the comprehension of the Euler-Maclaurin summation formula for a real number instead of only considering natural numbers. Moreover, we utilize the concept of the essence of a function to propose a new regularization method for divergent series.

Stabilizer codes for Open Quantum Systems

The Lindblad master equation describes the evolution of a large variety of open quantum systems. An important property of some open quantum systems is the existence of decoherence-free subspaces. A quantum state from a decoherence-free subspace will evolve unitarily. However, there is no procedural and optimal method for constructing a decoherence-free subspace. In this paper, we develop tools for constructing decoherence-free stabilizer codes for open quantum systems governed by Lindblad master equation. This is done by pursuing an extension of the stabilizer formalism beyond the celebrated group structure of Pauli error operators. We then show how to utilize decoherence-free stabilizer codes in quantum metrology in order to attain the Heisenberg limit scaling with low computational complexity.

On Finitely Stable Additive Bases

The concept of additive basis has been investigated in the literature for several mathematicians which works with number theorem. Recently, the concept of finitely stable additive basis was introduced. In this note we provide a counterexample of the reciprocal of Theorem 2.2 shown in [Ferreira, L.A.: Finite Stable Additive Basis; Bull. Aust. Math. Soc.]. The idea of the construction of such a counterexample can possibly help the process of finding additive bases of some specific order.

On semi-vector spaces and semi-algebras

It is well-known that the theories of semi-vector spaces and semi-algebras -- which were not much studied over time -- are utilized/applied in Fuzzy Set Theory in order to obtain extensions of the concept of fuzzy numbers as well as to provide new mathematical tools to investigate properties and new results on fuzzy systems. In this paper we investigate the theory of semi-vector spaces over the semi-field of nonnegative real numbers ${\mathbb R}_{0}^{+}$. We prove several results concerning semi-vector spaces and semi-linear transformations. Moreover, we introduce in the literature the concept of eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a semi-linear operator, describing in some cases how to compute them. Topological properties of semi-vector spaces such as completeness and separability are also investigated. New families of semi-vector spaces derived from semi-metric, semi-norm, semi-inner product, among others are exhibited. Additionally, some results on semi-algebras are presented.

A Lipschitz version of the $λ$-Lemma and a characterization of homoclinic and heteroclinic orbits

In this paper we consider finite dimensional dynamical systems generated by a Lipschitz function. We prove a version of the Whitney's Extension Theorem on compact manifolds to obtain a version of the well-known Lambda Lemma for Lipschitz functions. The notions of Lipschitz transversality and hyperbolicity are investigated in the context of finite dimension with a norm weaker than $C^1$-norm and stronger than $C^0$-norm.

A numerical method for a class of nonlinear fractional advection-diffusion equations

In this note, a numerical method based on finite differences to solve a class of nonlinear advection-diffusion fractional differential equation is proposed. The fractional operator considered here is the fractional Riemann-Liouville derivative or the fractional Riesz derivative of order $α$. The consistency and unconditionally stability of the method are shown. Finally, an example of application of this method is presented.

Lyapunov exponent for Lipschitz maps

It is well-known that the Lyapunov exponent plays a fundamental role in dynamical systems. In this note, we propose an alternative definition of Lyapunov exponent in terms of Lipschitz maps, which are not necessarily differentiable. We show that the results which are valid to standard discrete dynamical systems are also valid in this new context. Therefore, this novel approach expands the range of applications of the dynamical systems theory.

Quantum codes derived from cyclic codes

In this note, we present a construction of new nonbinary quantum codes with good parameters. These codes are obtained by applying the Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) construction. In order to do this, we show the existence of (classical) cyclic codes whose defining set consists of only one cyclotomic coset containing at least two consecutive integers.

New Convolutional Codes Derived from Algebraic Geometry Codes

In this paper, we construct new families of convolutional codes. Such codes are obtained by means of algebraic geometry codes. Additionally, more families of convolutional codes are constructed by means of puncturing, extending, expanding and by the direct product code construction applied to algebraic geometry codes. The parameters of the new convolutional codes are better than or comparable to the ones available in literature. In particular, a family of almost near MDS codes is presented.

On optimal constacyclic codes

In this paper we investigate the class of constacyclic codes, which is a natural generalization of the class of cyclic and negacyclic codes. This class of codes is interesting in the sense that it contains codes with good or even optimal parameters. In this light, we propose constructions of families of classical block and convolutional maximum-distance-separable (MDS) constacyclic codes, as well as families of asymmetric quantum MDS codes derived from (classical-block) constacyclic codes. These results are mainly derived from the investigation of suitable properties on cyclotomic cosets of these corresponding codes.

Asymmetric quantum convolutional codes

In this paper, we construct the first families of asymmetric quantum convolutional codes (AQCC)'s. These new AQCC's are constructed by means of the CSS-type construction applied to suitable families of classical convolutional codes, which are also constructed here. The new codes have noncatastrophic generator matrices and they present great asymmetry. Since our constructions are performed algebraically, it is possible to derive several families of such codes and not only codes with specific parameters. Additionally, several different types of such codes are obtained.

Pseudo Magic Squares

A magic square of order n is an nxn square (matrix) whose entries are distinct nonnegative integers such that the sum of the numbers of any row and column is the same number, the magic constant. In this paper we introduce the concept of pseudo magic squares, i.e., magic squares defined over the ring of integers, without the restriction of distinct numbers. Additionally, we generalize this new concept by introducing a group (ring) structure over it. This new approach can provide useful tools in order to find new non-isomorphic pseudo magic squares.

On the Construction of Nonbinary Quantum BCH Codes

Four quantum code constructions generating several new families of good nonbinary quantum nonprimitive non-narrow-sense Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) codes are presented in this paper. The first two ones are based on Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) construction derived from two nonprimitive BCH codes, not necessarily self-orthogonal. The third one is based on nonbinary Steane's enlargement of CSS codes applied to suitable sub-families of nonprimitive non-narrow-sense BCH codes. The fourth construction is derived from suitable sub-families of Hermitian self-orthogonal nonprimitive non-narrow-sense BCH codes. These constructions generate new families of quantum BCH codes whose parameters are better than the ones available in the literature.

On Classical and Quantum MDS-Convolutional BCH Codes

Several new families of multi-memory classical convolutional Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) codes as well as families of unit-memory quantum convolutional codes are constructed in this paper. Our unit-memory classical and quantum convolutional codes are optimal in the sense that they attain the classical (quantum) generalized Singleton bound. The constructions presented in this paper are performed algebraically and not by computational search.
