Towards mixed QCDxEW corrections to the charged-current Drell-Yan process with leptonic decay at high transverse masses

The Drell-Yan process is a key precision benchmark at the Large Hadron Collider and a sensitive probe of SM and SMEFT effects. Fully exploiting future LHC data requires percent-level SM predictions, motivating precise EW and mixed QCDxEW corrections. In this proceeding we report of the progress towards the calculation of mixed QCDxEW corrections to charged-current Drell-Yan with leptonic decay at high transverse masses, performed within the Nested Soft-Collinear Subtraction framework. After presenting a validation at NLO, we show results for the NNLO real corrections and compare their impact in the neutral-current and newly developed charged-current channels. These contributions are essential to match the current and future precision of LHC measurements, especially in regions where electroweak effects are enhanced by Sudakov logarithms.

Analytic results for heavy-quark contributions to charged-current DIS at NNLO

We present analytic results for the next-to-next-to-leading-order QCD corrections to heavy-quark production in charged-current deep-inelastic scattering, retaining the exact dependence on the charm quark mass. We compute the complete partonic coefficient functions for the structure functions $F_2$, $F_L$, and $F_3$ in the quark and gluon channels, including contributions with up to three heavy quarks in the final state. Working within the reverse-unitarity framework, we use integration-by-parts and canonical differential-equations techniques to express all contributions with at most two final-state heavy quarks in terms of manifestly real Goncharov polylogarithms which allow for a robust and efficient numerical evaluation. The three-heavy-quark contribution involves elliptic structures for which we give a general representation in terms of Chen iterated integrals, as well as expressions in terms of rapidly convergent expansions that are valid in the perturbative $Q\gtrsim 5~{\rm GeV}$ region and also allow for a flexible and fast numerical evaluation. We validate our results against known exact results at lower orders, massless NNLO coefficient functions, and existing leading-power expansions in the asymptotic limit where the virtuality $Q$ is much larger than the charm mass.

Light-by-light scattering at three loops in massless QCD and QED: amplitudes and cross sections

We present the calculation of three-loop massless QCD and QED helicity amplitudes for light-by-light scattering. We make use of Lorentz tensor decomposition in the 't Hooft-Veltman dimensional regularisation scheme to reduce the complexity of the computation. Our analytic amplitude results are remarkably compact and can be efficiently evaluated numerically. We employ them to compute the corresponding NNLO differential cross-section predictions in the invariant mass and rapidity distributions of the di-photon system, for which we find agreement with the experimental ATLAS data from ultra-peripheral heavy-ion collisions.

Soft Factorisation and Exponentiation from Schwinger-Space Geometry

Infrared divergences in Quantum Field Theory govern the low-energy dynamics of many physical theories, and their understanding is a crucial ingredient in predicting the outcomes of collider experiments. We present a novel approach to deriving the structure of these divergences by employing the Schwinger parametrization of Feynman integrals. After using tropical geometry to identify divergent limits, we study the all-orders asymptotic properties of Feynman diagrams via matrix manipulations of graph Laplacians, which allows us to analyse their IR behaviour systematically. We explicitly demonstrate the soft-hard factorization of the integrand for a broad class of diagrams, and reveal that when written in terms of "worldline distances", topologically distinct diagrams asymptote to the same integrand. In particular, for the case of Quantum Electrodynamics, we use this fact to show how ladder-type diagrams combine in Schwinger-parameter space to yield the correct exponentiated soft anomalous dimension. This framework provides a foundation for extending these methods to more complex theories like Quantum Chromodynamics and offers a pathway towards a systematic understanding of infrared divergences in perturbative amplitudes.

Investigating the universality of five-point QCD scattering amplitudes at high energy

We investigate $2 \to 3$ QCD scattering amplitudes in multi-Regge kinematics, i.e. where the final partons are strongly ordered in rapidity. In this regime amplitudes exhibit intriguing factorisation properties which can be understood in terms of effective degrees of freedom called \emph{reggeons}. Working within the Balitsky/JIMWLK framework, we predict these amplitudes for the first time to next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic order, and compare against the limit of QCD scattering amplitudes in full colour and kinematics. We find that the latter can be described in terms of universal objects, and that the apparent non-universality arising at NNLL comes from well-defined and under-control contributions that we can predict. Thanks to this observation, we extract for the first time the universal vertex that controls the emission of the central-rapidity gluon, both in QCD and $N = 4$ super Yang-Mills.

Three-loop helicity amplitudes for four-quark scattering in massless QCD

We compute the three-loop corrections to the helicity amplitudes for $q\bar{q}\to Q\bar{Q}$ scattering in massless QCD. In the Lorentz decomposition of the scattering amplitude we avoid evanescent Lorentz structures and map the corresponding form factors directly to the physical helicity amplitudes. We reduce the amplitudes to master integrals and express them in terms of harmonic polylogarithms. The renormalised amplitudes exhibit infrared divergences of dipole and quadrupole type, as predicted by previous work on the infrared structure of multileg scattering amplitudes. We derive the finite remainders and present explicit results for all relevant partonic channels, both for equal and different quark flavours.

Five-Parton Scattering in QCD at Two Loops

We compute all helicity amplitudes for the scattering of five partons in two-loop QCD in all the relevant flavor configurations, retaining all contributing color structures. We employ tensor projection to obtain helicity amplitudes in the 't Hooft-Veltman scheme starting from a set of primitive amplitudes. Our analytic results are expressed in terms of massless pentagon functions, and are easy to evaluate numerically. These amplitudes provide important input to investigations of collinear-factorization breaking and to studies of the multi-Regge kinematics regime.

Three-loop gluon scattering in QCD and the gluon Regge trajectory

We compute the three-loop helicity amplitudes for the scattering of four gluons in QCD. We employ projectors in the 't Hooft-Veltman scheme and construct the amplitudes from a minimal set of physical building blocks, which allows us to keep the computational complexity under control. We obtain relatively compact results that can be expressed in terms of harmonic polylogarithms. In addition, we consider the Regge limit of our amplitude and extract the gluon Regge trajectory in full three-loop QCD. This is the last missing ingredient required for studying single-Reggeon exchanges at next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy.

Finite Feynman Integrals

We describe an algorithm to organize Feynman integrals in terms of their infrared properties. Our approach builds upon the theory of Landau singularities, which we use to classify all configurations of loop momenta that can give rise to infrared divergences. We then construct bases of numerators for arbitrary Feynman integrals, which cancel all singularities and render the integrals finite. Through the same analysis, one can also classify so-called evanescent and evanescently finite Feynman integrals. These are integrals whose vanishing or finiteness relies on properties of dimensional regularization. To illustrate the use of these integrals, we display how to obtain a simpler form for the leading-color two-loop four-gluon scattering amplitude through the choice of a suitable basis of finite integrals. In particular, when all gluon helicities are equal, we show that with our basis the most complicated double-box integrals do not contribute to the finite remainder of the scattering amplitude.

Three-loop helicity amplitudes for photon+jet production

We present three-loop helicity amplitudes for the production of a single photon in association with one jet in Quantum Chromodynamics, a final state which provides a standard candle of the Standard Model at the Large Hadron Collider. We employ a recently-proposed variation of the so-called tensor projection method in the 't Hooft-Veltman scheme (tHV) which avoids the computation of contributions due to unphysical (-2$ε$)-dimensional polarisations of the external states. We obtain compact analytic results expressed in terms of harmonic polylogarithms.

Three-Loop Four-Point Scattering Amplitudes in Massless Gauge Theories

We present novel techniques for the computation of three-loop four-parton scattering amplitudes in full color, non-planar gauge theories. We elaborate on how the analytic results for these amplitudes can be used to confirm the conjectured infrared structure of QCD up to three loops and how all-orders data can be extracted from their high-energy limit.

Three-loop helicity amplitudes for quark-gluon scattering in QCD

We compute the three-loop helicity amplitudes for $q\bar{q} \to gg$ and its crossed partonic channels, in massless QCD. Our analytical results provide a non-trivial check of the color quadrupole contribution to the infrared poles for external states in different color representations. At high energies, the $qg \to qg$ amplitude shows the predicted factorized form from Regge theory and confirms previous results for the gluon Regge trajectory extracted from $qq' \to qq'$ and $gg \to gg$ scattering.

Notes from the bulk: metric dependence of the edge states of Chern-Simons theory

The abelian Chern-Simons theory is considered on a cylindrical spacetime $\mathbb{R} \times D$, in a not necessarily flat Lorentzian background. As in the flat bulk case with planar boundary, we find that also on the radial boundary of a curved background a Kaç-Moody algebra exists, with the same central charge as in the flat case, which henceforth depends neither on the bulk metric nor on the geometry of the boundary. The holographically induced theory on the 2D boundary is topologically protected, in the sense that it describes a Luttinger liquid, no matter which the bulk metric is. The main result of this paper is that a remnant of the 3D bulk theory resides in the chiral velocity of the edge modes, which is not a constant like in the flat bulk case, but it is local, depending on the determinant of the induced metric on the boundary. This result may provide a theoretical framework for the recently observed accelerated chiral bosons on the edge of some Hall systems.

Fierz-Pauli theory reloaded: from a theory of a symmetric tensor field to linearized massive gravity

Modifying gravity at large distances by means of a massive graviton may explain the observed acceleration of the Universe without Dark Energy. The standard paradigm for Massive Gravity is the Fierz-Pauli theory, which, nonetheless, displays well known flaws in its massless limit. The most serious one is represented by the vDVZ discontinuity, which consists in a disagreement between the massless limit of the Fierz-Pauli theory and General Relativity. Our approach is based on a field theoretical treatment of Massive Gravity: General Relativity, in the weak field approximation, is treated as a gauge theory of a symmetric rank-2 tensor field. This leads us to propose an alternative theory of linearized Massive Gravity, describing five degrees of freedom of the graviton, with a good massless limit, without vDVZ discontinuity, and depending on one mass parameter only, in agreement with the Fierz-Pauli theory.

A note on Harmonic Gauge(s) in Massive Gravity

We consider the harmonic gauge condition in linearized gravity, seen as a gauge theory for a symmetric tensor field. Once the harmonic gauge condition is implemented, as customary, according to the Faddeev-Popov procedure, the gauge fixed action still depends on one gauge parameter. Consequently, the harmonic gauge appears to be a class of conditions, rather than a particular one. This allows to give a physical motivation for the covariant harmonic gauge(s), which emerges when the gravitational perturbation is given a mass term. In fact, for a particular choice of harmonic gauge, we find a theory of linearized massive gravity displaying five degrees of freedom, as it should, and which is not affected by the vDVZ discontinuity, differently from what happens in the standard Fierz-Pauli theory.
