Photometric monitoring of Luminous Blue Variables

We present some preliminary results from our program of intensive near-infrared photometric monitoring of a sample of confirmed and candidate Luminous Blue Variables (LBVs) conducted from 2008 to 2010. Clear long-term variability has been observed for Wray 17-96 and V481 Sct, with overall brightness variation greater than 1 mag in the J band. Other sources, such as LBV 1806-20 showed detectable variability with amplitudes of few tenths of a magnitude with time-scale of about 60 days.

CoRoT and asteroseismology. Preparatory work and simultaneous ground-based monitoring

The successful launch of the CoRoT (COnvection, ROtation and planetary Transits) satellite opens a new era in asteroseismology. The space photometry is complemented by high-resolution spectroscopy and multicolour photometry from ground, to disclose the pulsational content of the asteroseismic targets in the most complete way. Some preliminary results obtained with both types of data are presented. The paper is based on observations collected at S. Pedro Martir, Serra La Nave, La Silla, and Telescopio Nazionale Galileo Observatories.

REM - Rapid Eye Mount. A fast slewing robotized infrared telescope

The main goal of the REM project is the observation of prompt afterglow of Gamma-Ray Burst (GRB) events. Such observations at Near InfraRed (NIR) wavelengths are even very promising, since they allow to monitor high-z Ly-$α$ absorbed bursts as well as events occurring in dusty star-forming regions. In addition to GRB science, a large amount of time ($\sim 40%$) will be available for different scientific targets: among these the study of variability of stellar objects open exciting new perspectives.
