The Kerr-Schild Double Copy in Lifshitz Spacetime

The Kerr-Schild double copy is a map between exact solutions of general relativity and Maxwell's theory, where the nonlinear nature of general relativity is circumvented by considering solutions in the Kerr-Schild form. In this paper, we give a general formulation, where no simplifying assumption about the background metric is made, and show that the gauge theory source is affected by a curvature term that characterizes the deviation of the background spacetime from a constant curvature spacetime. We demonstrate this effect explicitly by studying gravitational solutions with non-zero cosmological constant. We show that, when the background is flat, the constant charge density filling all space in the gauge theory that has been observed in previous works is a consequence of this curvature term. As an example of a solution with a curved background, we study the Lifshitz black hole with two different matter couplings. The curvature of the background, i.e., the Lifshitz spacetime, again yields a constant charge density; however, unlike the previous examples, it is canceled by the contribution from the matter fields. For one of the matter couplings, there remains no additional non-localized source term, providing an example for a non-vacuum gravity solution corresponding to a vacuum gauge theory solution in arbitrary dimensions.

More on the Classical Double Copy in Three Spacetime Dimensions

It is well-known that General Relativity (GR) in three spacetime dimensions (3D) has no well-defined Newtonian limit. Recently, a static solution mimicking the behaviour of the expected Newtonian potential has been found in arXiv:1904.11001 by studying the classical double copy of a point charge in gauge theory. This is the first example where the vacuum solution in the gauge theory leads to a non-vacuum solution on the gravity side. The resulting energy-momentum tensor was attributed to a free scalar ghost field; however, alternatively, the source can be seen as one resulting from a spacelike perfect fluid. In this paper, we first give an alternative derivation of the solution where there is no need to perform a generalized gauge transformation to obtain a quadratic Lagrangian without propagating ghost fields. Then, we present a stationary version of the solution and show that the scalar field interpretation of the source does not survive in this case, leaving the spacelike fluid as the only possibility. We give the gauge theory single copy of our solution and comment on the implications of our results on the validity of the classical double copy in 3D. The effect of the cosmological constant is also discussed.

Bachian Gravity in Three Dimensions

In three dimensions, there exist modifications of Einstein's gravity akin to the topologically massive gravity that describe massive gravitons about maximally symmetric backgrounds. These theories are built on the three-dimensional version of the Bach tensor (a curl of the Cotton-York tensor) and its higher derivative generalizations; and they are on-shell consistent without a Lagrangian description based on the metric tensor alone. We give a generic construction of these models, find the spectra and compute the conserved quantities for the Banados-Teitelboim-Zanelli black hole.

Holographic c-theorem and Born-Infeld Gravity Theories

The requirement of the existence of a holographic c-function for higher derivative theories is a very restrictive one and hence most theories do not possess this property. Here, we show that, when some of the parameters are fixed, the $D\geq3$ Born-Infeld gravity theories admit a holographic c-function. We work out the details of the $D=3$ theory with no free parameters, which is a non-minimal Born-Infeld type extension of new massive gravity. Moreover, we show that these theories generate an infinite number of higher derivative models admitting a c-function in a suitable expansion and therefore they can be studied at any truncated order.

Holographic P-wave Superconductors in 1+1 Dimensions

We study $(1+1)$-dimensional p-wave holographic superconductors described by three dimensional Einstein-Maxwell gravity coupled to a massive complex vector field in the context of $AdS_3/CFT_2$ correspondence. In the probe limit where the backreation of matter fields is neglected, we show that there occurs a formation of a vector hair around the black hole below a certain critical temperature. In the dual strongly coupled $(1+1)$-dimensional boundary theory, this holographically corresponds to the formation of a charged vector condensate spontaneously breaking both the $U(1)$ and $SO(1,1)$ symmetries. We numerically compute the ac conductivity for the superconducting phase of the boundary field theory and find that the presence of a magnetic moment term in the dual bulk theory effects the conductivity in the boundary field theory.

Unitarity Problems in 3$D$ Gravity Theories

We revisit the problem of the bulk-boundary unitarity clash in 2 + 1 dimensional gravity theories, which has been an obstacle in providing a viable dual two-dimensional conformal field theory for bulk gravity in anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime. Chiral gravity, which is a particular limit of cosmological topologically massive gravity (TMG), suffers from pertur- bative log-modes with negative energies inducing a non-unitary logarithmic boundary field theory. We show here that any f(R) extension of TMG does not improve the situation. We also study the perturbative modes in the metric formulation of minimal massive gravity- originally constructed in a first-order formulation-and find that the massive mode has again negative energy except in the chiral limit. We comment on this issue and also discuss a possible solution to the problem of negative energy modes. In any of these theories, the infinitesimal dangerous deformations might not be integrable to full solutions; this suggests a linearization instability of AdS spacetime in the direction of the perturbative log-modes.

Asymptotically flat black holes in 2+1 dimensions

Asymptotically flat black holes in $2+1$ dimensions are a rarity. We study the recently found black flower solutions (asymptotically flat black holes with deformed horizons), static black holes, rotating black holes and the dynamical black flowers (black holes with radiative gravitons ) of the purely quadratic version of new massive gravity. We show how they appear in this theory and we also show that they are also solutions to the infinite order extended version of the new massive gravity, that is the Born-Infeld extension of new massive gravity with an amputated Einsteinian piece. The same metrics also solve the topologically extended versions of these theories, with modified conserved charges and the thermodynamical quantities, such as the Wald entropy. Besides these we find new conformally flat radiating type solutions to these extended gravity models. We also show that these metrics do not arise in Einstein's gravity coupled to physical perfect fluids.

Supersymmetric Backgrounds and Black Holes in ${\cal N}=(1,1)$ Cosmological New Massive Supergravity

Using an off-shell Killing spinor analysis we perform a systematic investigation of the supersymmetric background and black hole solutions of the ${\cal N}=(1,1)$ Cosmological New Massive Gravity model. The solutions with a null Killing vector are the same pp-wave solutions that one finds in the ${\cal N}=1$ model but we find new solutions with a time-like Killing vector that are absent in the ${\cal N}=1$ case. An example of such a solution is a Lifshitz spacetime. We also consider the supersymmetry properties of the so-called rotating hairy BTZ black holes and logarithmic black holes in an $AdS_3$ background. Furthermore, we show that under certain assumptions there is no supersymmetric Lifshitz black hole solution.

Massive N=2 Supergravity in Three Dimensions

There exists two distinct off-shell ${\mathcal{N}}=2$ supergravities in three dimensions. They are also referred to as ${\mathcal{N}}=(1,1)$ and ${\mathcal{N}}=(2,0)$ supergravities, and they arise from the coupling of the Weyl multiplet to a compensating scalar or vector multiplet, respectively, followed by fixing of conformal symmetries. The ${\mathcal{N}} =(p,q)$ terminology refers to the underlying anti-de Sitter superalgebras $OSp(2,p) \oplus OSp(2,q)$ with $R$-symmetry group $SO(p) \times SO(q)$. We construct off-shell invariants of these theories up to fourth order in derivatives. As an application of these results, we determine the special combinations of the ${\mathcal{N}}=(1,1)$ invariants that admit anti-de Sitter vacuum solution about which there is a ghost-free massive spin-2 multiplet of propagating modes. We also show that the ${\mathcal{N}}=(2,0)$ invariants do not allow such possibility.

Covariant Symplectic Structure and Conserved Charges of New Massive Gravity

We show that the symplectic current obtained from the boundary term, which arises in the first variation of a local diffeomorphism invariant action, is covariantly conserved for any gravity theory described by that action. Therefore, a Poincare invariant 2-form can be constructed on the phase space, which is shown to be closed without reference to a specific theory. Finally, we show that one can obtain a charge expression for gravity theories in various dimensions, which plays the role of the Abbott-Deser-Tekin (ADT) charge for spacetimes with non-constant curvature backgrounds, by using the diffeomorphism invariance of the symplectic 2-form. As an example, we calculate the conserved charges of some solutions of New Massive Gravity (NMG) and compare the results with the previous works.
