Non-commutative space engine: a boost to thermodynamic processes

We introduce quantum heat engines that perform quantum Otto cycle and the quantum Stirling cycle by using a coupled pair of harmonic oscillator as its working substance. In the quantum regime, different working medium is considered for the analysis of the engine models to boost the efficiency of the cycles. In this work, we present Otto and Stirling cycle in the quantum realm where the phase space is non-commutative in nature. By using the notion of quantum thermodynamics we develop the thermodynamic variables in non-commutative phase space. We encounter a catalytic effect (boost) on the efficiency of the engine in non-commutative space (i.e, we encounter that the Stirling cycle reaches near to the efficiency of the ideal cycle) when compared with the commutative space. Moreover, we obtained a notion that the working medium is much more effective for the analysis of the Stirling cycle than that of the Otto cycle.

Bound on efficiency of heat engine from uncertainty relation viewpoint

Quantum cycles in established heat engines can be modeled with various quantum systems as working substances. For example, a heat engine can be modeled with an infinite potential well as the working substance to determine the efficiency and work done. However, in this method, the relationship between the quantum observables and the physically measurable parameters i.e., the efficiency and work done is not well understood from the quantum mechanics approach. A detailed analysis is needed to link the thermodynamic variables (on which the efficiency and work done depends) with the uncertainty principle for better understanding. Here, we present the connection of the sum uncertainty relation of position and momentum operators with thermodynamic variables in the quantum heat engine model. We are able to determine the upper and lower bounds on the efficiency of the heat engine through the uncertainty relation.

A new error-modeling of Hardy's paradox for superconducting qubits and its experimental verification

Hardy's paradox (equivalently, Hardy's non-locality or Hardy's test) [\href{https://link.aps.org/doi/10.1103/PhysRevLett.68.2981}{L. Hardy, Phys. Rev. Lett. \textbf{68}, 2981 (1992)}] is used to show non-locality without inequalities and it has been tested several times using optical circuits. We, for the first time, experimentally test Hardy's paradox of non-locality in superconducting qubits. For practical verification of Hardy's paradox, we argue that the error-modeling used in optical circuits is not useful for superconducting qubits. So, we propose a new error-modeling for Hardy's paradox and a new method to estimate the lower bound on Hardy's probability (i.e., the probability of a specific event in Hardy's test) for superconducting qubits. Our results confirmed the theory that any non-maximally entangled state of two qubits violates Hardy's equations; whereas, any maximally entangled state and product state of two qubits do not exhibit Hardy's non-locality. Further, we point out the difficulties associated with the practical implementation of quantum protocols based on Hardy's paradox and propose possible remedies. We also propose two performance measures for any two qubits of any quantum computer based on superconducting qubits.

Improving the Security of "Measurement-Device-Independent Quantum Communication without Encryption"

Recently in 2018, Niu et al. proposed a measurement-device-independent quantum secure direct communication protocol using Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen pairs and generalized it to a quantum dialogue protocol (Niu et al., Science bulletin 63.20, 2018). By analyzing these protocols we find some security issues in both these protocols. In this work, we show that both the protocols are not secure against information leakage, and a third party can get half of the secret information without any active attack. We also propose suitable modifications of these protocols to improve the security.

Maximum Violation of Monogamy of Entanglement for Indistinguishable Particles by Measures that are Monogamous for Distinguishable Particles

Two important results of quantum physics are the \textit{no-cloning} theorem and the \textit{monogamy of entanglement}. The former forbids the creation of an independent and identical copy of an arbitrary unknown quantum state and the latter restricts the shareability of quantum entanglement among multiple quantum systems. For distinguishable particles, one of these results imply the other. In this Letter, we show that in qubit systems with indistinguishable particles (where each particle cannot be addressed individually), a maximum violation of the monogamy of entanglement is possible by the measures that are monogamous for distinguishable particles. To derive this result, we formulate the degree of freedom trace-out rule for indistinguishable particles corresponding to a spatial location where each degree of freedom might be entangled with the other degrees of freedom. Our result removes the restriction on the shareability of quantum entanglement for indistinguishable particles, without contradicting the no-cloning theorem.

Hyper-hybrid entanglement, indistinguishability, and two-particle entanglement swapping

Hyper-hybrid entanglement for two indistinguishable bosons has been recently proposed by Li \textit{et al.} [Y. Li, M. Gessner, W. Li, and A. Smerzi, \href{https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevLett.120.050404}{Phys. Rev. Lett. 120, 050404 (2018)}]. In the current paper, we show that this entanglement exists for two indistinguishable fermions also. Next, we establish two {\em no-go} results: no hyper-hybrid entanglement for two {\em distinguishable} particles, and no unit fidelity quantum teleportation using {\em indistinguishable} particles. If either of these is possible, then the {\em no-signaling principle} would be violated. While several earlier works have attempted extending many results on distinguishable particles to indistinguishable ones, and vice versa, the above two no-go results establish a nontrivial separation between the two domains. Finally, we propose an efficient entanglement swapping using only two indistinguishable particles, whereas a minimum number of either three distinguishable or four indistinguishable particles is necessary for existing protocols.

Quantum Secure Direct Communication with Mutual Authentication using a Single Basis

In this paper, we propose a new theoretical scheme for quantum secure direct communication (QSDC) with user authentication. Different from the previous QSDC protocols, the present protocol uses only one orthogonal basis of single-qubit states to encode the secret message. Moreover, this is a one-time and one-way communication protocol, which uses qubits prepared in a randomly chosen arbitrary basis, to transmit the secret message. We discuss the security of the proposed protocol against some common attacks and show that no eaves-dropper can get any information from the quantum and classical channels. We have also studied the performance of this protocol under realistic device noise. We have executed the protocol in IBMQ Armonk device and proposed a repetition code based protection scheme that requires minimal overhead.

Secure Multi-Party Quantum Conference and Xor Computation

Quantum conference is a process of securely exchanging messages between three or more parties, using quantum resources. A Measurement Device Independent Quantum Dialogue (MDI-QD) protocol, which is secure against information leakage, has been proposed (Quantum Information Processing 16.12 (2017): 305) in 2017, is proven to be insecure against intercept-and-resend attack strategy. We first modify this protocol and generalize this MDI-QD to a three-party quantum conference and then to a multi-party quantum conference. We also propose a protocol for quantum multi-party XOR computation. None of these three protocols proposed here use entanglement as a resource and we prove the correctness and security of our proposed protocols.

Binary Black Hole Information Loss Paradox & Future Prospects

Various techniques to tackle the black hole information paradox have been proposed. A new way out to tackle the paradox is via the use of a pseudo-density operator. This approach has successfully dealt with the problem with a two qubit entangle system for a single black hole. In this paper, we present the interaction with a binary black hole system by using an arrangement of the three qubit system of Greenberger Horne Zeilinger (GHZ) state. We show that our results are in excellent agreement with the theoretical value. We have also studied the interaction between the two black holes by considering the correlation between the qubits in the binary black hole system. The results depict a complete agreement with the proposed model. In addition to the verification, we also propose how modern detection of gravitational waves can be used on our optical setup as an input source, thus bridging the gap with the gravitational wave's observational resources in terms of studying black hole properties with respect to quantum information and entanglement.

Quantum Cycle in Relativistic Non-Commutative Space with Generalized Uncertainty Principle correction

Quantum heat cycles and quantum refrigerators are analyzed using various quantum systems as their working mediums. For example, to evaluate the efficiency and the work done of the Carnot cycle in the quantum regime, one can consider the harmonic oscillator as it's working medium. For all these well-defined working substances (which are analyzed in commutative space structure), the efficiency of the engine is not up to the mark of the Carnot efficiency. So, one inevitable question arise, can one observe a catalytic effect on the efficiency of the engines and refrigerators when the space structure is changed? In this paper, two different working substance in non-commutative spacetime with relativistic and generalized uncertainty principle corrections has been considered for the analysis of the efficiency of the heat engine cycles. The efficiency of the quantum heat engine gets a boost for higher values of the non-commutative parameter with a harmonic oscillator as the working substance. In the case of the second working medium (one-dimensional infinite potential well), the efficiency shows a constant result in the non-commutative space structure.

Cryptanalysis of Quantum Secure Direct Communication Protocol with Mutual Authentication Based on Single Photons and Bell States

Recently, Yan et al. proposed a quantum secure direct communication (QSDC) protocol with authentication using single photons and Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen (EPR) pairs (Yan et al., CMC-Computers, Materials \& Continua, 63(3), 2020). In this work, we show that the QSDC protocol is not secure against intercept-and-resend attack and impersonation attack. An eavesdropper can get the full secret message by applying these attacks. We propose a modification of this protocol, which defeats the above attacks along with all the familiar attacks.

Two Efficient Measurement Device Independent Quantum Dialogue Protocols

Quantum dialogue is a process of two way secure and simultaneous communication using a single channel. Recently, a Measurement Device Independent Quantum Dialogue (MDI-QD) protocol has been proposed (Quantum Information Processing 16.12 (2017): 305). To make the protocol secure against information leakage, the authors have discarded almost half of the qubits remaining after the error estimation phase. In this paper, we propose two modified versions of the MDI-QD protocol such that the number of discarded qubits is reduced to almost one-fourth of the remaining qubits after the error estimation phase. We use almost half of their discarded qubits along with their used qubits to make our protocol more efficient in qubits count. We show that both of our protocols are secure under the same adversarial model given in MDI-QD protocol.

Relativistic quantum heat engine from uncertainty relation standpoint

Established heat engines in quantum regime can be modeled with various quantum systems as working substances. For example, in the non-relativistic case, we can model the heat engine using infinite potential well as a working substance to evaluate the efficiency and work done of the engine. Here, we propose quantum heat engine with a relativistic particle confined in the one-dimensional potential well as working substance. The cycle comprises of two isothermal processes and two potential well processes of equal width, which forms the quantum counterpart of the known isochoric process in classical nature. For a concrete interpretation about the relation between the quantum observables with the physically measurable parameters (like the efficiency and work done), we develop a link between the thermodynamic variables and the uncertainty relation. We have used this model to explore the work extraction and the efficiency of the heat engine for a relativistic case from the standpoint of uncertainty relation, where the incompatible observables are the position and the momentum operators. We are able to determine the bounds (the upper and the lower bounds) of the efficiency of the heat engine through the thermal uncertainty relation.

A complete characterization of the optimal unitary attacks in quantum cryptography with a refined optimality criteria involving the attackers Hilbert space only

Fuchs et al. [Phys. Rev. A, 1997] suggested an optimal attack on the BB84 protocol, where the necessary and sufficient condition for optimality involves the joint Hilbert space of the sender and the attacker. In this work, we propose a refined optimality criteria involving the Hilbert space of the attacker only. It reveals that the optimal (non-zero) overlaps between the attackers post-interactions states must be equal and numerically same as the difference between the fidelity and the disturbance at the receiving end. That amount turns out to be same as the reduction (factor) in Bell violation when estimated for the equivalent entanglement-based protocol. Further, a series of necessary and sufficient conditions unveil the structure of the optimal states which therefore are the only and all possible optimal interactions. We show that these optimal states are same as the outputs of an optimal phase-covariant cloner. We also demonstrate various methods to derive optimal unitary evolutions that an eavesdropper is interested to know in order to mount an optimal attack.

Analysis of the Game "2048" and its Generalization in Higher Dimensions

We theoretically analyze the popular mobile app game `2048' for the first time in $n$-dimensional space. We show that one can reach the maximum value $2^{n_1n_2+1}$ and $2^{\left({\prod_{i=1}^{d} n_i}\right)+1}$ for the two dimensional $n_1\times n_2$ board and $d$ dimensional $n_1\times n_2\times \ldots \times n_d$ board respectively. We also present a strategy for the computer and a winning strategy for the human player in certain conditions.

Revisiting Generalized Bertand's Postulate and Prime Gaps

It is a well-known fact that for any natural number $n$, there always exists a prime in $[n, 2n]$. Our aim in this note is to generalize this result to $[n, kn]$. A lower as well as an upper bound on the number of primes in $[n, kn]$ were conjectured by Mitra et al. [Arxiv 2009]. In 2016, Christian Axler provided a proof of the lower bound which is valid only when $n$ is greater than a very large threshold. In this paper, after almost a decade, we for the first time provide a direct proof of the lower bound that holds for all $n \geq 2$. Further, we show that the upper bound is a consequence of Firoozbakht's conjecture. Finally, we also prove a stronger version of the bounded gaps between primes.

Probing Uncertainty Relations in Non-Commutative Space

In this paper, we compute uncertainty relations for non-commutative space and obtain a better lower bound than the standard one obtained from Heisenberg's uncertainty relation. We also derive the reverse uncertainty relation for product and sum of uncertainties of two incompatible variables for one linear and another non-linear model of the harmonic oscillator. The non-linear model in non-commutating space yields two different expressions for Schrödinger and Heisenberg uncertainty relation. This distinction does not arise in commutative space, and even in the linear model of non-commutative space.

Dimensionality Distinguishers

The celebrated Clauser, Horne, Shimony and Holt (CHSH) game model helps to perform the security analysis of many two-player quantum protocols. This game specifies two Boolean functions whose outputs have to be computed to determine success or failure. It also specifies the measurement bases used by each player. In this paper, we generalize the CHSH game by considering all possible non-constant Boolean functions and all possible measurement basis (up to certain precision). Based on the success probability computation, we construct several equivalence classes and show how they can be used to generate three classes of dimension distinguishers. In particular, we demonstrate how to distinguish between dimensions 2 and 3 for a special form of maximally entangled state.
