Quasi-copulas as linear combinations of copulas

We prove that every quasi-copula can be written as a uniformly converging infinite sum of multiples of copulas. Furthermore, we characterize those quasi-copulas which can be written as a finite sum of multiples of copulas, i.e., that are a linear combination of two copulas. This generalizes a recent result of Fernández-Sánchez, Quesada-Molina, and Úbeda-Flores who considered linear combinations of discrete copulas.

On maximal distances in a commuting graph

We study maximal distances in the commuting graphs of matrix algebras defined over algebraically closed fields. In particular, we show that the maximal distance can be attained only between two nonderogatory matrices. We also describe rank-one and semisimple matrices using the distances in the commuting graph.

On the Polya permanent problem over finite fields

Let $\FF$ be a finite field of characteristics different from two. We show that no bijective map transforms permanent into determinant when the cardinality of $\FF$ is sufficiently large. We also give an example of non-bijective map when $\FF$ is arbitrary and an example of a bijective map when $\FF$ is infinite which do transform permanent into determinant. The developed technique allows us to estimate the probability of the permanent and the determinant of matrices over finite fields to have a given value. Our results are also true over finite rings without zero divisors.
