Monomial-Cartesian codes and their duals, with applications to LCD codes, quantum codes, and locally recoverable codes

A monomial-Cartesian code is an evaluation code defined by evaluating a set of monomials over a Cartesian product. It is a generalization of some families of codes in the literature, for instance toric codes, affine Cartesian codes and $J$-affine variety codes. In this work we use the vanishing ideal of the Cartesian product to give a description of the dual of a monomial-Cartesian code. Then we use such description of the dual to prove the existence of quantum error correcting codes and MDS quantum error correcting codes. Finally we show that the direct product of monomial-Cartesian codes is a locally recoverable code with $t$-availability if at least $t$ of the components are locally recoverable codes.

Service Rate Region of Content Access from Erasure Coded Storage

We consider storage systems in which $K$ files are stored over $N$ nodes. A node may be systematic for a particular file in the sense that access to it gives access to the file. Alternatively, a node may be coded, meaning that it gives access to a particular file only when combined with other nodes (which may be coded or systematic). Requests for file $f_k$ arrive at rate $λ_k$, and we are interested in the rate that can be served by a particular system. In this paper, we determine the set of request arrival rates for the a $3$-file coded storage system. We also provide an algorithm to maximize the rate of requests served for file $K$ given $λ_1,\dots, λ_{K-1}$ in a general $K$-file case.

Locally Recoverable Codes with Availability $t\geq 2$ from Fiber Products of Curves

We generalize the construction of locally recoverable codes on algebraic curves given by Barg, Tamo and Vlăduţ to those with arbitrarily many recovery sets by exploiting the structure of fiber products of curves. Employing maximal curves, we create several new families of locally recoverable codes with multiple recovery sets, including codes with two recovery sets from the generalized Giulietti and Korchmáros (GK) curves and the Suzuki curves, and new locally recoverable codes with many recovery sets based on the Hermitian curve, using a fiber product construction of van der Geer and van der Vlugt. In addition, we consider the relationship between local error recovery and global error correction as well as the availability required to locally recover any pattern of a fixed number of erasures.

Codes for distributed storage from 3-regular graphs

This paper considers distributed storage systems (DSSs) from a graph theoretic perspective. A DSS is constructed by means of the path decomposition of a 3- regular graph into P4 paths. The paths represent the disks of the DSS and the edges of the graph act as the blocks of storage. We deduce the properties of the DSS from a related graph and show their optimality.
