Interior solutions of relativistic stars in the scale-dependent scenario

We study relativistic stars in the scale-dependent scenario, which is one of the approaches to quantum gravity, and where Newton's constant is promoted to a scale-dependent quantity. First, the generalized structure equations are derived here for the first time. Then they are integrated numerically assuming a linear equation-of-state in the simplest MIT bag model for quark matter. We compute the radius, the mass and the compactness of strange quarks stars, and we show that the energy conditions are fulfilled.

Black hole shadow of a rotating scale--dependent black hole

In this work, starting from a spherically symmetric scale--dependent black hole, a rotating solution is obtained by following the Newman--Janis algorithm without complexification. Besides studying the horizon, the static conditions and causality issues of the rotating solution, we get and discuss the shape of its shadow.

Dynamical systems methods and statefinder diagnostic of interacting vacuum energy models

We study three interacting dark energy models within the framework of four-dimensional General Relativity and a spatially flat Universe. In particular, we first consider two vacuum models where dark energy interacts with dark matter, while relativistic matter as well as baryons are treated as non-interacting fluid components. Secondly, we investigate a third model where the gravitational coupling is assumed to be a slowly-varying function of the Hubble rate and dark energy and dark matter interact as well. We compute the statefinders parameters versus red-shift as well as the critical points and their nature applying dynamical systems methods. In the case of only an interaction term, our main findings indicate that i) significant differences between the models are observed as we increase the strength of the interaction term, and ii) all the models present an unique attractor corresponding to acceleration. On the other hand, when we allow for a variable gravitational coupling, we find that i) the deviation from the concordance model depends of both the strength of gravitational coupling parameter and the interaction term, and ii) there is an unique attractor corresponding to acceleration.

Dynamics of cosmological inflation and predictions for reheating in the light of 2018 PLANCK results

We study the dynamics of two concrete inflationary models, namely Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking Inflation as well as Loop Inflation. We constrain the parameters for which a viable inflationary Universe emerges using the latest PLANCK results of last year, and we give predictions for the duration of reheating as well as for the reheating temperature after inflation. Our numerical results show that baryogenesis via leptogenesis may be realized within the inflationary models considered in this work.

White dwarf cooling via gravity portals

We investigate the impact of gravity portal to properties of white dwarfs, such as equation-of-state as well as cooling time. We find that the interaction between dark matter spin-zero bosons and electrons in the mean field approximation softens the equation-of-state, and the object coolers down slower compared to the usual case.

Quasinormal modes of five-dimensional black holes in non-commutative geometry

We compute the spectrum of quasinormal frequencies of five-dimensional black holes obtained in noncommutative geometry. In particular, we study scalar perturbations of a massive scalar field adopting the 6th order WKB approximation. We investigate in detail the impact of the mass of the scalar field, the angular degree and the overtone number on the spectrum. All modes are found to be stable.

How compact stars challenge our view about dark matter

It is by now well established that non-relativistic matter in the Universe is dominated by dark matter, the origin and nature of which still remains a mystery. Although the collisionless dark matter paradigm works very well at large distances, a few puzzles at galactic scales arise. These problems may be tackled assuming a self-interacting dark matter. If dark matter is accumulated inside a star it will modify its evolution and its properties, such as mass-to-radius profiles and frequency oscillation modes. Asteroseismology is a relatively new, powerful tool that allows us to constrain dark matter models, offering us complementary bounds to the results coming from other means, such as collider or direct searches. I will present here the main results we have obtained assuming that the dark matter particle is a boson, which inside a star is modelled as a Bose-Einstein condensate with a polytropic equation-of-state. We have computed i) the radial and non-radial oscillation modes of light clumps of dark matter made of ultra light repulsive scalar fields, and ii) the mass-to-radius profiles as well the frequencies of radial modes of admixed dark matter strange quark stars.

Generalized Galileon Scenario Inspires Chaotic Inflation

We study chaotic inflation with a Galileon-like self interaction $G(ϕ,X)\Box ϕ$, where $G(ϕ,X)\propto X^{n}$. General conditions required for successful inflation are deduced and discussed from the background and cosmological perturbations under slow-roll approximation. Interestingly, it is found that in the regime where the Galileon term dominates over the standard kinetic term, the tensor-to-scalar ratio becomes significantly suppressed in comparison to the standard expression in General Relativity (GR). Particularly, we find the allowed range in the space of parameters characterizing the chaotic quadratic and quartic inflation models by considering the current observational data of Planck from the $n_{\mathcal{S}}-r$ plane. Finally, we discuss about the issue if the Galileon term is dominant by the end of inflation, this can affect the field oscillation during reheating.

Relativistic strange quark stars in Lovelock gravity

We study relativistic non-rotating stars in the framework of Lovelock gravity. In particular, we consider the Gauss-Bonnet term in a five-dimensional spacetime, and we investigate the impact of the Gauss-Bonnet parameter on properties of the stars, both isotropic and anisotropic. For matter inside the star, we assume a relativistic gas of de-confined massless quarks. We integrate the modified Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equations numerically, and we obtain the mass-to-radius profile, the compactness of the star as well as the gravitational red-shift for several values of the Gauss-Bonnet parameter. The maximum star mass and radius are also reported.

Anisotropic strange quark stars with a non-linear equation-of-state

We obtain an exact analytical solution to Einstein's field equations assuming a non-linear equation-of-state and a particular mass function. Our solution describes the interior of anisotropic color flavor locked strange quark stars. All energy conditions are fulfilled, and therefore the solution obtained here is a realistic solution within General Relativity. The mass-to-radius profile is obtained, and the compactness of the star is computed.

Quasinormal modes of regular black holes with non linear-Electrodynamical sources

We compute the spectrum of quasinormal frequencies of regular black holes obtained in the presence of Non-Linear Electrodynamics. In particular, we perturb the black hole with a minimally coupled massive scalar field, and we study the corresponding perturbations adopting the 6th order WKB approximation. We analyze in detail the impact on the spectrum of the charge of the black hole, the quantum number of angular momentum and the overtone number. All modes are found to be stable. Finally, a comparison with other charged black holes is made, and an analytical expression for the quasinormal spectrum in the eikonal limit is provided.

Model comparison using supernovae and Hubble parameter data

We compare several well-known cosmological dark energy models using observational data coming both from type Ia supernovae and from Hubble parameter measurements. First we use supernovae data to determine the free parameters of each model except for the Hubble constant $H_0$. Then, we use the Hubble parameter measurements to determine $H_0$, and finally the age of the Universe for each model is computed. Our main numerical results are summarized in tables, and they are briefly discussed. The prediction for the decelerating parameter as a function of red-shift for each model is shown in the same figure for comparison. Our numerical results seem to indicate a correlation between the deceleration parameter and the value of the Hubble constant.

Radial oscillations of boson stars made of ultralight repulsive dark matter

We compute the lowest frequency radial oscillation modes of boson stars. It is assumed that the object is made of pseudo-Goldstone bosons subjected to a scalar potential that leads to a repulsive self-interaction force, and which is characterized by two unknown mass scales $m$ (mass of the particle) and $F$ (decay constant). First we integrate the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equations for the hydrostatic equilibrium of the star, and then we solve the Sturm-Liouville boundary value problem for the perturbations using the shooting method. The effective potential that enters into the Schr{ö}dinger-like equation as well as several associated eigenfunctions are shown as well. Moreover, we found that the large frequency separation, i.e. the difference between consecutive modes, is proportional to the square root of the mass of the star and the cube of the mass scale defined by $Λ\equiv \sqrt{m F}$.

We compute the lowest frequency non-radial oscillation modes of dilute axion stars. The effective potential that enters into the Schr{ö}dinger-like equation, several associated eigenfunctions, and the large as well as the small frequency separations are shown as well.

Greybody factors and quasinormal modes for a nonminimally coupled scalar field in a cloud of strings in (2+1)-dimensional background

We study the propagation of a probe massless nonminimally coupled scalar field in a fixed gravitational background of a cloud of strings in (2+1) dimensions. We obtain exact analytical expressions for the reflection coefficient, the absorption cross section, the decay rate as well as the quasinormal frequencies. The impact of the nonminimal coupling is investigated in detail. Our results show that Universality is not respected in general, and that scalar perturbations are stable.

Baryogenesis via leptogenesis in multi-field inflation

In multi-field reheating after modular $j$-inflation we investigate the conditions under which baryogenesis via non-thermal leptogenesis can be successfully realized. We introduce three heavy right-handed neutrinos to the non-supersymmetric Standard Model of particle physics, assuming hierarchical neutrino masses. Considering a typical mass for the first right-handed neutrino of the order of $10^{11}~GeV$, suggested from the seesaw mechanism and also from concrete $SO(10)$ grand unification models, we obtain the allowed parameter space for viable baryogenesis. An upper bound for the inflaton mass as well as a lower bound for its branching ratio to the pair of lightest right-handed neutrinos are found and reported.

Charged slowly rotating toroidal black holes in the (1+3)-dimensional Einstein-power-Maxwell theory

In this work we find charged slowly rotating solutions in the four-dimensional Einstein-power-Maxwell non-linear electrodynamics assuming a negative cosmological constant. By solving the system of coupled field equations explicitly we obtain an approximate analytical solution in the small rotation limit. The solution obtained is characterized by a flat horizon structure, and it corresponds to a toroidal black hole. The Smarr's formula, the thermodynamics and the invariants Ricci scalar and Kretschmann scalar are briefly discussed.
