On the motivic spectral sequence

It is shown that the Grayson tower for $K$-theory of smooth algebraic varieties is isomorphic to the slice tower of $S^1$-spectra. We also extend the Grayson tower to bispectra and show that the Grayson motivic spectral sequence is isomorphic to the motivic spectral sequence produced by the Voevodsky slice tower for the motivic $K$-theory spectrum $KGL$. This solves Suslin's problem for these two spectral sequences in the affirmative.

Algebraic Kasparov K-theory. II

A kind of motivic stable homotopy theory of algebras is developed. Explicit fibrant replacements for the $S^1$-spectrum and $(S^1,\mathbb G)$-bispectrum of an algebra are constructed. As an application, unstable, Morita stable and stable universal bivariant theories are recovered. These are shown to be embedded by means of contravariant equivalences as full triangulated subcategories of compact generators of some compactly generated triangulated categories. Another application is the introduction and study of the symmetric monoidal compactly generated triangulated category of $K$-motives. It is established that the triangulated category $kk$ of Cortiñas--Thom can be identified with the $K$-motives of algebras. It is proved that the triangulated category of $K$-motives is a localization of the triangulated category of $(S^1,\mathbb G)$-bispectra. Also, explicit fibrant $(S^1,\mathbb G)$-bispectra representing stable algebraic Kasparov $K$-theory and algebraic homotopy $K$-theory are constructed.

Algebraic Kasparov K-theory. I

This paper is to construct unstable, Morita stable and stable bivariant algebraic Kasparov $K$-theory spectra of $k$-algebras. These are shown to be homotopy invariant, excisive in each variable $K$-theories. We prove that the spectra represent universal unstable, Morita stable and stable bivariant homology theories respectively.

The triangulated category of K-motives DK_(k)

For any perfect field k a triangulated category of K-motives DK_(k) is constructed in the style of Voevodsky's construction of the category DM_(k). To each smooth k-variety X the K-motive is associated in the category DK_(k). Also, it is shown that K_n(X)=DK_(k)(M_K(X)[n],M_K(pt)), where K(X) is Quillen's K-theory of X.

K-motives of algebraic varieties

A kind of motivic algebra of spectral categories and modules over them is developed to introduce K-motives of algebraic varieties. As an application, bivariant algebraic K-theory as well as bivariant motivic kohomology groups are defined and studied. We use Grayson's machinery to produce the Grayson motivic spectral sequence connecting bivariant K-theory to bivariant motivic kohomology. It is shown that the spectral sequence is naturally realized in the triangulated category of K-motives constructed in the paper. It is also shown that ordinary algebraic K-theory is represented by the K-motive of the point.

Classifying finite localizations of quasi-coherent sheaves

Given a quasi-compact, quasi-separated scheme X, a bijection between the tensor localizing subcategories of finite type in Qcoh(X) and the set of all subsets $Y\subseteq X$ of the form $Y=\bigcup_{i\inΩ}Y_i$, with $X\setminus Y_i$ quasi-compact and open for all $i\inΩ$, is established. As an application, there is constructed an isomorphism of ringed spaces (X,O_X)-->(Spec(Qcoh(X)),O_{Qcoh(X)}), where $(Spec(Qcoh(X)),O_{Qcoh(X)})$ is a ringed space associated to the lattice of tensor localizing subcategories of finite type. Also, a bijective correspondence between the tensor thick subcategories of perfect complexes $\perf(X)$ and the tensor localizing subcategories of finite type in Qcoh(X) is established.

Reconstructing projective schemes from Serre subcategories

Given a positively graded commutative coherent ring A which is finitely generated as an A_0-algebra, a bijection between the tensor Serre subcategories of qgr A and the set of all subsets Y\subseteq Proj A of the form Y=\bigcup_{i\inΩ}Y_i with quasi-compact open complement Proj A\Y_i for all i\inΩis established. To construct this correspondence, properties of the Ziegler and Zariski topologies on the set of isomorphism classes of indecomposable injective graded modules are used in an essential way. Also, there is constructed an isomorphism of ringed spaces (Proj A,O_{Proj A}) --> (Spec(qgr A),O_{qgr A}), where (Spec(qgr A),O_{qgr A}) is a ringed space associated to the lattice L_{serre}(qgr A) of tensor Serre subcategories of qgr A.

Homotopy theory of associative rings

A kind of unstable homotopy theory on the category of associative rings (without unit) is developed. There are the notions of fibrations, homotopy (in the sense of Karoubi), path spaces, Puppe sequences, etc. One introduces the notion of a quasi-isomorphism (or weak equivalence) for rings and shows that - similar to spaces - the derived category obtained by inverting the quasi-isomorphisms is naturally left triangulated. Also, homology theories on rings are studied. These must be homotopy invariant in the algebraic sense, meet the Mayer-Vietoris property and plus some minor natural axioms. To any functor X from rings to pointed simplicial sets a homology theory is associated in a natural way. If X=GL and fibrations are the GL-fibrations, one recovers Karoubi-Villamayor's functors KV_i, i>0. If X is Quillen's K-theory functor and fibrations are the surjective homomorphisms, one recovers the (non-negative) homotopy K-theory in the sense of Weibel. Technical tools we use are the homotopy information for the category of simplicial functors on rings and the Bousfield localization theory for model categories. The machinery developed in the paper also allows to give another definition for the triangulated category kk constructed by Cortiñas and Thom. The latter category is an algebraic analog for triangulated structures on operator algebras used in Kasparov's KK-theory.

Torsion classes of finite type and spectra

Given a commutative ring R (respectively a positively graded commutative ring $A=\ps_{j\geq 0}A_j$ which is finitely generated as an A_0-algebra), a bijection between the torsion classes of finite type in Mod R (respectively tensor torsion classes of finite type in QGr A) and the set of all subsets Y\subset Spec R (respectively Y\subset Proj A) of the form Y=\cup_{i\inΩ}Y_i, with Spec R\Y_i (respectively Proj A\Y_i) quasi-compact and open for all i\inΩ, is established. Using these bijections, there are constructed isomorphisms of ringed spaces (Spec R,O_R)-->(Spec(Mod R),O_{Mod R}) and (Proj A,O_{Proj A})-->(Spec(QGr A),O_{QGr A}), where (Spec(Mod R),O_{Mod R}) and (Spec(QGr A),O_{QGr A}) are ringed spaces associated to the lattices L_{tor}(Mod R) and L_{tor}(QGr A) of torsion classes of finite type. Also, a bijective correspondence between the thick subcategories of perfect complexes perf(R) and the torsion classes of finite type in Mod R is established.

Systems of Diagram Categories and K-theory. II

The additivity theorem for derivateurs associated to complicial biWaldhausen categories is proved. Also, to any exact category in the sense of Quillen a K-theory space is associated. This K-theory is shown to satisfy the additivity, approximation and resolution theorems.

Systems of Diagram Categories and K-theory I

To any left system of diagram categories or to any left pointed derivateur (in the sense of Grothendieck) a K-theory space is associated. This K-theory space is shown to be canonically an infinite loop space and to have a lot of common properties with Waldhausen's K-theory. A weaker version of additivity is shown. Also, Quillen's K-theory of a large class of exact categories including the abelian categories is proved to be a retract of the K-theory of the associated derivateur.

FP-injective and weakly quasi-Frobenius rings

The classes of FP-injective and weakly quasi-Frobenius rings are investigated. The properties for both classes of rings are closely linked with embedding of finitely presented modules in fp-flat and free modules respectively. Using these properties, we describe the classes of coherent CF and FGF-rings. Moreover, it is proved that the group ring R(G) is FP-injective (resp. weakly quasi-Frobenius) if and only if the ring R is FP-injective (resp. weakly quasi-Frobenius) and the group G is locally finite.
