Probing stops in the coannihilation region at the HL-LHC: a comparative study of different processes

In the minimal supersymmetric model, the coannihilation of the lighter stop $\tilde{t}_1$ and bino-like dark matter $χ$ provides a feasible way to accommodate the correct dark matter relic abundance. In this scenario, due to the compressed masses, $\tilde{t}_1$ merely appears as missing energy at the LHC and thus the pair production of $\tilde{t}_1$ can only be probed by requiring an associated energetic jet. Meanwhile, since $\tilde{t}_2$ and $\tilde{b}_1$ are correlated in mass and mixing with $\tilde{t}_1$, the production of $\tilde{t}_2\tilde{t}_2^*$ or $\tilde{b}_1\tilde{b}_1^*$, each of which dominantly decays into $\tilde{t}_1$ plus $Z$, $h$ or $W$ boson, may serve as a complementary probe. We examine all these processes at the HL-LHC and find that the $2σ$ sensitivity to $χ$ mass can be as large as about 570 GeV, 600 GeV and 1.1 TeV from the production process of $\tilde{t}_1\tilde{t}_1^*+{\rm jet}$, $\tilde{t}_2\tilde{t}_2^*$ and $\tilde{b}_1\tilde{b}_1^*$, respectively.

Vacuum stability in stau-neutralino coannihilation in MSSM

The stau-neutralino coannihilation provides a feasible way to accommodate the observed cosmological dark matter (DM) relic density in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). In such a coannihilation mechanism the stau mass usually has an upper bound since its annihilation rate becomes small with the increase of DM mass. Inspired by this observation, we examine the upper limit of stau mass in the parameter space with a large mixing of staus. We find that the stau pair may dominantly annihilate into dibosons and hence the upper bound on the stau mass ($\sim400$ GeV) obtained from the $f\bar{f}$ final states can be relaxed. Imposing the DM relic density constraint and requiring a long lifetime of the present vacuum, we find that the lighter stau mass can be as heavy as about 1.4 TeV for the stau maximum mixing. However, if requiring the present vacuum to survive during the thermal history of the universe, this mass limit will reduce to about 0.9 TeV. We also discuss the complementarity of vacuum stability and direct detections in probing this stau coannihilation scenario.

A minimal $U(1)^\prime$ extension of MSSM in light of the B decay anomaly

Motivated by the $R_K$ and $R_{K^*}$ anomalies from B decays, we extend the minimal supersymmetric model with a non-universal anomaly-free $U(1)^\prime$ gauge symmetry, coupling non-universally to the lepton sector as well as the quark sector. In particular, only the third generation quarks are charged under this $U(1)^\prime$, which can easily evade the dilepton bound from the LHC searches. An extra singlet is introduced to break this $U(1)^\prime$ symmetry allowing for the $μ$-term to be generated dynamically. The relevant constraints of $B_s-\bar{B}_s$ mixing, $D^0-\bar{D}^0$ mixing and the LHC dilepton searches are considered. We find that in the allowed parameter space this $U(1)^\prime$ gauge interaction can accommodate the $R_K$ and $R_{K^*}$ anomalies and weaken considerably the $Z^\prime$ mass limits while remaining perturbative up to the Planck scale.

Probing bino-wino coannihilation dark matter under the neutrino floor at the LHC

In the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) the bino-wino coannihilation provides a feasible way to accommodate the observed cosmological dark matter (DM) relic density. However, such a scenario usually predicts a very small DM-nucleon scattering cross section that is below the neutrino floor, and can not be tested by DM direct detection experiments. In this work, we investigate the discovery potential of this bino-wino co-annihilation region by searching for the soft dilepton events from the process $pp \to χ^0_2 (\to \ell^+\ell^- χ^0_1) χ^\pm_1+jets$ at the LHC. We find that the mass of the wino-like $χ^0_2$ can be probed up to about 310 (230) GeV at $2σ$ ($5σ$) level for an integrated luminosity ${\cal L}=300$ fb$^{-1}$. In the future HL-LHC with 3000 fb$^{-1}$ luminosity, the corresponding mass limits can be pushed up to 430 (330) GeV.

Leptophilic dark matter in gauged $U(1)_{L_e-L_μ}$ model in light of DAMPE cosmic ray $e^+ + e^-$ excess

Motivated by the very recent cosmic-ray electron+positron excess observed by DAMPE collaboration, we investigate a Dirac fermion dark matter (DM) in the gauged $L_e - L_μ$ model. DM interacts with the electron and muon via the $U(1)_{e-μ}$ gauge boson $Z^{'}$. The model can explain the DAMPE data well. Although a non-zero DM-nucleon cross section is only generated at one loop level and there is a partial cancellation between $Z^{'}ee$ and $Z^{'}μμ$ couplings, we find that a large portion of $Z^{'}$ mass is ruled out from direct DM detection limit leaving the allowed $Z^{'}$ mass to be close to two times of the DM mass. Implications for $pp \to Z^{'} \to 2\ell$ and $pp \to 2\ell + Z^{'}$ , and muon $g-2$ anomaly are also studied.

Simplified TeV leptophilic dark matter in light of DAMPE data

Using a simplified framework, we attempt to explain the recent DAMPE cosmic $e^+ + e^-$ flux excess by leptophilic Dirac fermion dark matter (LDM). The scalar ($Φ_0$) and vector ($Φ_1$) mediator fields connecting LDM and Standard Model particles are discussed. Under constraints of DM relic density, gamma-rays, cosmic-rays and Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), we find that the couplings $P \otimes S$, $P \otimes P$, $V \otimes A$ and $V \otimes V$ can produce the right bump in $e^+ + e^-$ flux for a DM mass around 1.5 TeV with a natural thermal annihilation cross-section $<σv> \sim 3 \times 10^{-26} cm^3/s$ today. Among them, $V \otimes V$ coupling is tightly constrained by PandaX-II data (although LDM-nucleus scattering appears at one-loop level) and the surviving samples appear in the resonant region, $m_{Φ_1} \simeq 2m_χ$. We also study the related collider signatures, such as dilepton production $pp \to Φ_1 \to \ell^+\ell^-$, and muon $g-2$ anomaly. Finally, we present a possible $U(1)_X$ realization for such leptophilic dark matter.

Probing GeV-scale MSSM neutralino dark matter in collider and direct detection experiments

Given the recent constraints from the dark matter (DM) direct detections, we examine a light GeV-scale (2-30 GeV) neutralino DM in the alignment limit of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). In this limit without decoupling, the heavy CP-even scalar $H$ plays the role of the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson while the other scalar $h$ can be rather light so that the DM can annihilate through the $h$ resonance or into a pair of $h$ to achieve the observed relic density. With the current collider and cosmological constraints, we find that such a light neutralino DM above 6 GeV can be excluded by the XENON-1T (2017) limits while the survivied parameter space below 6 GeV can be fully covered by the future germanium-based light dark matter detections (such as CDEX), by the Higgs coupling precison measurements or by the production process $e^+e^- \to hA$ at an electron-positron collider (Higgs factory).

Resonant Higgs pair production as a probe of stop at the LHC

Searching for top squark (stop) is a crucial task of the LHC. When the flavor conserving two body decays of the stop are kinematically forbidden, the stops produced near the threshold will live long enough to form bound states which subsequently decay through annihilation into the Standard Model (SM) final states. In the region of stop mixing angle $θ_{\tilde{t}} \to 0$ or $π/2$, we note that the LHC-13 TeV diphoton resonance data can give a strong bound on the spin-$0$ stoponium ($η_{\tilde{t}}$) and exclude the constituent stop mass $m_{\tilde{t}}$ up to about 290 GeV. While in the large stop mixing region, the stoponium will dominantly decay to the Higgs pair. By analyzing the process $pp \to η_{\tilde{t}} \to h (\to b\bar{b} )h (\to τ^+τ^-)$, we find that a large portion of the parameter space on the $m_{\tilde{t}_1}$ - $θ_{\tilde{t}}$ plane can be probed at $2σ$ significance level at the LHC with the luminosity ${\cal L}=3000$ fb$^{-1}$.

Leptonic mono-top from single stop production at LHC

Top squark (stop) can be produced via QCD interaction but also the electroweak interaction at the LHC. In this paper, we investigate the observability of the associated production of stop and chargino, $pp \to \tilde{t}_1\tildeχ^-_1$, in compressed electroweakino scenario at the 14 TeV LHC. Due to the small mass-splitting between the lightest neutralino ($\tildeχ^0_1$) and chargino ($\tildeχ^-_1$), such a single stop production can give a mono-top signature through the stop decay $\tilde{t}_1 \to t \tildeχ^0_1$. Focusing on the leptonic mono-top channel, we propose a lab-frame observable $\cosθ_{b\ell}$ to reduce the SM backgrounds in virtue of a boosted top quark from the stop decay. We find that the single stop production can be probed at $2σ$ level at the HL-LHC for $m_{\tilde{t}_1}<760$ GeV and $m_{\tildeχ^0_1}<150$ GeV.
