Enhanced Photovoltaic Power Forecasting: An iTransformer and LSTM-Based Model Integrating Temporal and Covariate Interactions

Accurate photovoltaic (PV) power forecasting is critical for integrating renewable energy sources into the grid, optimizing real-time energy management, and ensuring energy reliability amidst increasing demand. However, existing models often struggle with effectively capturing the complex relationships between target variables and covariates, as well as the interactions between temporal dynamics and multivariate data, leading to suboptimal forecasting accuracy. To address these challenges, we propose a novel model architecture that leverages the iTransformer for feature extraction from target variables and employs long short-term memory (LSTM) to extract features from covariates. A cross-attention mechanism is integrated to fuse the outputs of both models, followed by a Kolmogorov-Arnold network (KAN) mapping for enhanced representation. The effectiveness of the proposed model is validated using publicly available datasets from Australia, with experiments conducted across four seasons. Results demonstrate that the proposed model effectively capture seasonal variations in PV power generation and improve forecasting accuracy.

Efficient Kernelization Algorithm for Bipartite Graph Matching

Finding the maximum matching in bipartite graphs is a fundamental graph operation widely used in various fields. To expedite the acquisition of the maximum matching, Karp and Sipser introduced two data reduction rules aimed at decreasing the input size. However, the KaSi algorithm, which implements the two data reduction rules, has several drawbacks: a high upper bound on time complexity and inefficient storage structure. The poor upper bound on time complexity makes the algorithm lack robustness when dealing with extreme cases, and the inefficient storage structure struggles to balance vertex merging and neighborhood traversal operations, leading to poor performance on real-life graphs. To address these issues, we introduced MVM, an algorithm incorporating three novel optimization strategies to implement the data reduction rules. Our theoretical analysis proves that the MVM algorithm, even when using data structures with the worst search efficiency, can still maintain near-linear time complexity, ensuring the algorithm's robustness. Additionally, we designed an innovative storage format that supports efficient vertex merging operations while preserving the locality of edge sets, thus ensuring the efficiency of neighborhood traversals in graph algorithms. Finally, we conduct evaluations on both real-life and synthetic graphs. Extensive experiments demonstrate the superiority of our method.

Frustrated charge order and cooperative distortions in ScV6Sn6

Here we study the stability of charge order in the kagome metal ScV6Sn6. Synchrotron x-ray diffraction measurements reveal high-temperature, short-range charge correlations at the wave vectors along q=(1/3,1/3,1/2) whose inter-layer correlation lengths diverge upon cooling. At the charge order transition, this divergence is interrupted and long-range order freezes in along q=(1/3,1/3,1/3), as previously reported, while disorder enables the charge correlations to persist at the q=(1/3,1/3,1/2) wave vector down to the lowest temperatures measured. Both short-range and long-range charge correlations seemingly arise from the same instability and both are rapidly quenched upon the introduction of larger Y ions onto the Sc sites. Our results validate the theoretical prediction of the primary lattice instability at q=(1/3,1/3,1/2), and we present a heuristic picture for viewing the frustration of charge order in this compound.

Passive Respiration Detection via mmWave Communication Signal Under Interference

Recent research has highlighted the detection of human respiration rate using commodity WiFi devices. Nevertheless, these devices encounter challenges in accurately discerning human respiration amidst the prevailing human motion interference encountered in daily life. To tackle this predicament, this paper introduces a passive sensing and communication system designed specifically for respiration detection in the presence of robust human motion interference. Operating within the 60.48 GHz band, the proposed system aims to detect human respiration even when confronted with substantial human motion interference within close proximity. Subsequently, a neural network is trained using the collected data by us to enable human respiration detection. The experimental results demonstrate a consistently high accuracy rate over 90\% of the human respiration detection under interference, given an adequate sensing duration. Finally, an empirical model is derived analytically to achieve the respiratory rate counting in 10 seconds.

YbV$_3$Sb$_4$ and EuV$_3$Sb$_4$, vanadium-based kagome metals with Yb$^{2+}$ and Eu$^{2+}$ zig-zag chains

Here we present YbV$_3$Sb$_4$ and EuV$_3$Sb$_4$, two new compounds exhibiting slightly distorted vanadium-based kagome nets interleaved with zig-zag chains of divalent Yb$^{2+}$ and Eu$^{2+}$ ions. Single crystal growth methods are reported alongside magnetic, electronic, and thermodynamic measurements. YbV$_3$Sb$_4$ is a nonmagnetic metal with no collective phase transitions observed between 60mK and 300K. Conversely, EuV$_3$Sb$_4$ is a magnetic kagome metal exhibiting easy-plane ferromagnetic-like order below $T_\text{C}$=32K with signatures of noncollinearity under low field. Our discovery of YbV$_3$Sb$_4$ and EuV$_3$Sb$_4$ demonstrate another direction for the discovery and development of vanadium-based kagome metals while incorporating the chemical and magnetic degrees of freedom offered by a rare-earth sublattice.

Highly anisotropic magnetism in the vanadium-based kagome metal TbV6Sn6

RV6Sn6 (R=rare earth) compounds are appealing materials platforms for exploring the interplay between R-site magnetism and nontrivial band topology associated with the nonmagnetic vanadium-based kagome network. Here we present the synthesis and characterization of the kagome metal TbV6Sn6 via single-crystal x-ray diffraction, magnetization, transport, and heat capacity measurements. Magnetization measurements reveal strong, uniaxial magnetic anisotropy rooted in the alignment of Tb3Å moments in the interplane direction below 4.3(2) K. TbV6Sn6 exhibits multiband transport behavior with high mobilities of charge carriers, and our measurements suggest TbV6Sn6 is a promising candidate for hosting Chern gaps driven via the interplay between Tb-site magnetic order and the band topology of the V-site kagome network.

Study of the electronic properties of topological kagome metals YV$_6$Sn$_6$ and GdV$_6$Sn$_6$

The synthesis and characterization of vanadium-based kagome metals YV$_6$Sn$_6$ and GdV$_6$Sn$_6$ are presented. X-ray diffraction, magnetization, magnetotransport, and heat capacity measurements reveal an ideal kagome network of V-ions coordinated by Sn and separated by triangular lattice planes of rare-earth ions. The onset of low-temperature, likely noncollinear, magnetic order of Gd spins is detected in GdV$_6$Sn$_6$, while V-ions in both compounds remain nonmagnetic. Density functional theory calculations are presented modeling the band structures of both compounds, which can be classified as $\mathbb{Z}_2$ topological metals in the paramagnetic state. Both compounds exhibit high mobility, multiband transport and present an interesting platform for controlling the interplay between magnetic order associated with the $R$-site sublattice and nontrivial band topology associated with the V-based kagome network. Our results invite future exploration of other $R$V$_6$Sn$_6$ ($R$=rare earth) variants where this interplay can be tuned via $R$-site substitution.

Sr$_3$Ir$_2$O$_7$F$_2$: Topochemical conversion of a relativistic Mott state into a spin-orbit driven band insulator

The topochemical transformation of single crystals of Sr$_3$Ir$_2$O$_7$ into Sr$_3$Ir$_2$O$_7$F$_2$ is reported via fluorine insertion. Characterization of the newly formed Sr$_3$Ir$_2$O$_7$F$_2$ phase shows a nearly complete oxidation of Ir$^{4+}$ cations into Ir$^{5+}$ that in turn drives the system from an antiferromagnetic Mott insulator with a half-filled J$_{eff}=1/2$ band into a nonmagnetic $J=0$ band insulator. First principles calculations reveal a remarkably flat insertion energy that locally drives the fluorination process to completion. Band structure calculations support the formation of a band insulator whose charge gap relies on the strong spin-orbit coupling inherent to the Ir metal ions of this compound.

f-VAEs: Improve VAEs with Conditional Flows

In this paper, we integrate VAEs and flow-based generative models successfully and get f-VAEs. Compared with VAEs, f-VAEs generate more vivid images, solved the blurred-image problem of VAEs. Compared with flow-based models such as Glow, f-VAE is more lightweight and converges faster, achieving the same performance under smaller-size architecture.

Topological design of an asymmetric 3-translational parallel mechanism with zero coupling degree and motion decoupling

In this paper a new asymmetric 3-translational (3T) parallel manipulator, i.e., RPa(3R) 2R+RPa, with zero coupling degree and decoupled motion is firstly proposed according to topology design theory of parallel mechanism (PM) based on position and orientation characteristics (POC) equations. The main topological characteristics such as POC, degree of freedom and coupling degree are calculated. Then, the analytical formula for the direct and inverse kinematic are directly derived since coupling degree of the PM is zero. The study of singular configurations is simple because of the independence of the kinematic chains.

Time-of-flight laser ranging and imaging at 1550 nm using low-jitter superconducting nanowire single-photon detection system

We developed a time-correlated single-photon counting (TCSPC) system based on the low-jitter superconducting nanowire single-photon detection (SNSPD) technology. The causes of jitters in the TCSPC system were analyzed. Owing to the low jitter of the SNSPD technology, a system jitter of 26.8 ps full-width at half-maximum was achieved after optimizing the system. We demonstrated time-of-flight laser ranging at 1550 nm wavelength at a stand-off distance of 115 m, based on this TCSPC system. A depth resolution of 4 mm was achieved directly by locating the centroids of each of the two return signals. Laser imaging was also performed using the TCSPC system. This low-jitter TCSPC system using the SNSPD technology presents great potential in long-range measurements and imaging applications for low-energy-level and eye-safe laser systems

The origin of entropy production in spacetime thermodynamics

We find that the ambiguity term of approximate Killing vector field is responsible for the entropy production term. Without the ambiguity term, pure Einstein theory and $f(R)$ satisfy the relation of thermodynamic equilibrium. Considering such an ambiguity term of approximate Killing vector field, we can get the entropy production term and the entropy in $f(R)$ with a form defined by Jacobson. In pure Einstein theory, the shear term is the only geometric contribution of entropy production term, while in $f(R)$ it can also contribute. We believe our approach and conclusion can be generalized to other gravity theory.

Experimental demonstration of counterfactual quantum key distribution

Counterfactual quantum key distribution provides natural advantage against the eavesdropping on the actual signal particles. It can prevent the photon-number-splitting attack when a weak coherent light source is used for the practical implementation. We realized the counterfactual quantum key distribution in an unbalanced Mach-Zehnder interferometer of 12.5-km-long quantum channel with a high-fringe visibility of 96:4%. As a result, we obtained secure keys against the noise-induced attack (eg. the vacuum attack) and passive photon-number-splitting attack.

Prevent eavesdropping with bright reference pulses for practical quantum key distribution

We analyze the application of bright reference pulses to prevent the photon-number-splitting attack in weak-pulse quantum key distribution. Under the optimal eavesdropping strategy as far as we know, the optimal parameters of bright reference and signal pulses can ensure a secure transmission distance up to 146 km. To realize the quantum key distribution scenario with up-present techniques, we present an experimentally feasible scheme to create a large splitting ratio between bright reference and signal pulses, and to switch the bright reference pulses away from signal pulses to avoid the after-pulse disturbance.

Stable polarization-encoded quantum key distribution in fiber

Polarizations of single-photon pulses have been controlled with long-term stability of more than 10 hours by using an active feedback technique for auto-compensation of unpredictable polarization scrambling in long-distance fiber. Experimental tests of long-term operations in 50, 75 and 100 km fibers demonstrated that such a single-photon polarization control supported stable polarization encoding in long-distance fibers to facilitate stable one-way fiber system for polarization-encoded quantum key distribution, providing quantum bit error rates below the absolute security threshold.

Auto-compensating differential phase shift quantum key distribution

We propose an auto-compensating differential phase shift scheme for quantum key distribution with a high key-creation efficiency, which skillfully makes use of automatic alignment of the photon polarization states in optical fiber with modified Michelson interferometers composed of unequal arms with Faraday mirrors at the ends. The Faraday-mirrors-based Michelson interferometers not only function as pulse splitters, but also enable inherent compensation of polarization mode dispersion in the optic-fiber paths at both Alice's and Bob's sites. The sequential pulses encoded by differential phase shifts pass through the quantum channel with the same polarization states, resulting in a stable key distribution immune to the polarization mode dispersion in the quantum channel. Such a system features perfect stability and higher key creation efficiency over traditional schemes.
