A Paradigm for the Coupled-Channel Origin of Resonances: the Exotic $T_{c\bar{s}}$ in $D_{s1}(2460/2536)\to D_sππ$

The $T_{c\bar{s}}$ state observed in the decay $D_{s1}(2460)^+ \to D_s^+π^+π^-$ provides direct evidence for an isovector open-charm tetraquark state with strangeness--a discovery that demands a systematic framework connecting its origin to the nature of the parent $D_{s1}$. We successfully achieve this connection by two mechanisms, triangle loops and the coupled channel of $DK$-$D_sπ$ with pure off-diagonal potentials. We first point out the behavior of propagator of $D_sπ$ will influence the effective potential of $DK\to DK$, then we can successfully obtain the pole of $T_{c\bar{s}}$ on the second Reimann Sheet. By combing with the $ππ$-$KK$ rescattering, not only the two-peak structure in $D_{s1}(2460)$ decay is well reproduced, but also a single-peak structure is predicted in $D_{s1}(2536)$ decay. The marked difference, testable at LHCb and Belle II, is driven by the $S$-wave versus $D$-wave nature of their $D^*K$ couplings, revealing the underlying structural distinction between the two $D_{s1}$ states. By directly linking hadronic structure to decay patterns, this work provides a template for deciphering the nature of such exotic states. More broadly, by revealing how non-perturbative coupled-channel effects manifest in exotic hadrons, our analysis connects to a universal mechanism shared by systems ranging from halo nuclei to atomic Feshbach resonances, offering a unified perspective across these fields.

Systematic Study of Coupled-Channel Dynamics in Doubly Heavy Hadronic Molecules

Heavy Quark Spin Symmetry (HQSS) is widely use to predict heavy molecules by extending the effective interactions fitted from low-lying states to heavier sectors. In this work, we systematically investigate the reliability of this approach for higher double heavy tetraquarks by comparing a single-channel effective interaction (Scheme I) with an explicit coupled-channel dynamics framework (Scheme II). The interactions are obtained within one-boson-exchange potential model and fixed by fitting the $T_{cc}^+$ lineshape. Utilizing the complex scaling method and $T$-matrix pole analysis, we extract the possible poles in the $S$-wave $D^{(*)}D^{(*)}$, $\bar{B}^{(*)}\bar{B}^{(*)}$ and $D^{(*)}\bar{B}^{(*)}$ systems with $J^{P}=1^+$. We find that both schemes provide consistent descriptions of the lowest-lying state. This confirms isoscalar-dominated $T_{cc}$ as a predominant $DD^*$ molecule (binding energy $\sim$ 381 keV), and predicts an isoscalar deeply bound $T_{bb}$ state ($40-60$ MeV) and an isovector $T^\prime_{bb}$ resonance in the bottom sector, together with a virtual $T_{bc}$ state. In contrast, significant differences emerge for higher-lying states. The inclusion of explicit coupled-channel dynamics modifies the effective interaction and reshapes the pole structure. The states predicted as bound or resonant in the single-channel framework can be shifted far from the physical region or disappear. These results indicate that while single-channel descriptions are adequate for near-threshold states, an explicit treatment of coupled-channel dynamics is required for reliable predictions of excited doubly heavy tetraquarks.

General Hamiltonian Approach to the $\mathbf{N}$-Body Finite-Volume Formalism: Extracting the $\mathbfω$ Resonance Parameters from Lattice QCD

We present a nonperturbative Hamiltonian framework (NPHF) to address the general $N$-body problem. This framework rigorously connects finite-volume spectra from lattice QCD to scattering observables from experiment. To demonstrate its applicability, we extract the resonance parameters of the $ω$ meson by simultaneously analyzing the isoscalar $3π$ and isovector $2π$ systems. The Hamiltonian unifies single-particle $ω$, two-particle $ρπ$, and three-particle $πππ$ dynamics within a single unitary formalism. Using leading lattice QCD spectra from the Chinese Lattice QCD Collaboration at $m_π$ = 208 and 305 MeV, we perform a fit in the isovector and isoscalar channels, accurately describe the lattice spectra and obtain robust determinations of the $ρ$ and $ω$ pole positions. This work establishes a foundational approach for extracting resonance dynamics from finite-volume spectra. Given the ubiquity of three-body dynamics in exotic hadrons, halo nuclei, and neutron star matter, this general formalism holds broad relevance across particle, nuclear, and astrophysical physics.

Finite Volume Hamiltonian method for two-particle systems containing long-range potential on the lattice

We propose a systematic method to block-diagonalize the finite volume effective Hamiltonian for two-particle systems with arbitrary spin in both the rest and moving frame. The framework is convenient and efficient for addressing the left-hand cut issue arising from long-range potential, which are challenging in the framework of standard Lüscher formula. Furthermore, the method provides a foundation for further extension to three-particle systems. We first benchmark our method by examining several toy models, demonstrating its consistency with standard Lüscher formula in the absence of long-range potential. In the presence of long-range potential, we investigate and resolve the effects and issues of left-hand cut. As a realistic application, we calculate the finite volume spectra of isoscalar $D\bar{D}^*$ system, where the well-known exotic state $χ_{c1}(3872)$ is observed. The results are qualitatively consistent with the lattice QCD calculation, highlighting the reliability and potential application of our framework to the study of other exotic states in hadron physics.

Resonance sum rules: an application to the square well potential

We propose an extension of the Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) sum rules, termed the Resonance sum rules (RSR), to access resonance poles in the complex energy plane. By strategically introducing a contour in the complex plane and conformal mapping, the method intends to reach resonance poles on the second Riemann sheet. To validate this approach, we apply RSR to the square-well potential model, for which the pole locations are known. The analysis demonstrates a successful extraction of the pole positions and residues for both the $S$-wave and $P$-wave resonances. The results are in good agreement with the analytic solutions, with discrepancies within $5\%$ for the pole positions and $20\%$ for the residues. This framework provides a basis for future applications to realistic hadronic resonances, promising new insights into spectral properties of QCD.

Double-bottom centrifugal-barrier molecules dancing with four quarks

Motivated by the recent Belle II measurement of the open-bottom cross section, we perform a systematic study of the double-bottom molecular tetraquark spectrum, including both $S$-wave and $P$-wave configurations. Using the one-boson-exchange potential and the complex scaling method, we investigate the $B^{(*)}\bar{B}^*$ and $B^{(*)}B^*$ systems and predict several bound states and resonances. Our analysis reveals a rich spectrum, including $B\bar{B}^*$ ($0(1^{++})$, $0(0^{-+})$), $B^*\bar{B}^*$ ($0(2^{++})$, $0(0^{-+})$, $0(1^{--})$), $BB^*$ ($0(1^+)$), and $B^*B^*$ ($0(1^+)$) bound states, as well as $B\bar{B}^*$ ($0(1^{--})$, $0(2^{--})$), $B^*\bar{B}^*$ ($0(3^{--})$), $BB^*$ ($0(0^-)$), and $B^*B^*$ ($0(1^-)$, $0(2^-)$) resonances. Our results provide theoretical support for the existence of double-bottom tetraquarks and deliver key benchmarks for future searches at LHCb, Belle II, and other experiments.

A Three-Coupled-Channel Analysis of $Z_c(3900)$ Involving $D\bar{D}^*$, $πJ/ψ$, and $ρη_c $

In this work, we conduct a three-coupled-channel analysis of the $Z_c(3900)$ structure, focusing on the $D\bar{D}^*$, $J/ψπ$, and $ρη_c$ channels, based on the one-boson exchange model. Drawing from previous study on the exotic state $T_{cc}$, we only utilize one more parameter to construct the interactions between the channels. Our model successfully reproduces the experimental line shapes of the invariant mass distribution at $\sqrt{s} = 4.23$ and $4.26$ GeV for the three channels. Additionally, the finite-volume energy levels in our model show agreement with current LQCD conclusion. Detailed analysis suggests that the $Z_c(3900)$ peaks in the $πJ/ψ$ and $ρη_c$ distributions primarily arise from the triangle loop involving the $D_1 \bar{D} D^*$ intermediate system. In the $D\bar{D}^*$ distribution, the threshold peak is generated by the cascade decay mechanism enhanced by a triangle diagram. Moreover, we find a virtual pole located far from the threshold, indicating that $Z_c(3900)$ peaks are not associated with physical pole. We conclude that the $Z_c(3900)$ peaks are predominantly caused by the threshold cusp.

Probing exotic $J^{PC}$ resonances from deeply bound charmoniumlike molecules: Insights for identifying exotic hadrons

We investigate the resonance phenomenon in deeply bound charmoniumlike states. By interpreting the $Y(4220)$, $Y(4360)$, and $ψ(4415)$ states as deeply $S$-wave bound $D \bar D_1$, $D^* \bar D_1$, and $D^* \bar D_2^*$ molecules, respectively, we robustly predict the existence of $4$ $S$-wave deeply bound $C$-parity partner states and $13$ $P$-wave charmoniumlike molecular resonances. These states, formed by exchanging the light mesons and pinpointed through the complex scaling method, include $3$ $S$-wave bound states with exotic quantum numbers $I(J^{PC})$= $0(1^{-+})$ and $5$ $P$-wave resonances with exotic $0(0^{-+})$ and $0(2^{+-})$. We expect future experiments to search for such exotic molecular resonances, which will not only enrich the ongoing construction of ``Particle Zoo 2.0" but also help to scrutinize the hadronic molecular assignments of the $Y$-family particles including the $Y(4220)$, $Y(4360)$, and $ψ(4415)$ states.

Investigation on the bottom analogs of the $T_{cc}^{+}$

We investigate the doubly bottom state $T^-_{bb}$ composed of two bottom mesons with $J^P=1^+$. The potentials are obtained using the one-boson exchange model. With the heavy quark flavor symmetry, all the parameters in the model are determined by fitting the experimental data of doubly charmed state $T_{cc}^{+}$ from our previous work. Our analysis indicates that the isospin symmetry is well-preserved. We identify a deeply bound $T^-_{bb}$ state with quantum numbers $I(J^{P})=0(1^+)$, in contrast to the loosely bound $T_{cc}^{+}$. Additionally, we discover a resonant $T^-_{bb}$ state with $I(J^{P})=1(1^+)$. Furthermore, our investigation into the $\bar{B}\bar{B}^*$-$\bar{B}^*\bar{B}^*$ coupled channel effect reveals its important impact. The binding energy of the bound $I(J^{P})=0(1^+)$ states becomes deeper, while the resonant $T^-_{bb}$ state with $I(J^{P})=1(1^+)$ remains nearly unchanged.

New insight into the exotic states strongly coupled with the $D\bar{D}^*$ from the $T^+_{cc}$

We have investigated the internal structure of the open- and hidden-charmed ($DD^*$/$\bar DD^*$) molecules in the unified framework. We first fit the experimental lineshape of the $T^+_{cc}$ state and extract the $DD^*$ interaction, from which the $T^+_{cc}$ is assumed to arise solely. Then we obtain the $D\bar{D}^*$ interaction by charge conjugation. Our results show that the $D\bar{D}^*$ interaction is attractive but insufficient to form $X(3872)$ as a bound state. Instead, its formation requires the crucial involvement of the coupled channel effect between the $D\bar D^*$ and $c\bar c$ components, although the $c\bar c$ accounts for approximately $1\%$ only. Besides $X(3872)$, we have obtained a higher-energy state around $3957.9$ MeV with a width of $16.7$ MeV, which may be a potential candidate for the $X(3940)$. In $J^{PC}=1^{+-}$ sector, we have found two states related to the iso-scalar $\tilde X(3872)$ and $h_c(2P)$, respectively. Our combined study provides valuable insights into the nature of these $DD^*$/$D\bar D^*$ exotic states.

Mass Spectra of Full-Heavy and Double-Heavy Tetraquark States in the Conventional Quark Model

A comprehensive study of the $S$-wave heavy tetraquark states with identical quarks and antiquarks, specifically $QQ{\bar Q'}\bar Q'$ ($Q, Q'=c,b$), $QQ\bar s\bar s$/$\bar Q\bar Q ss$, and $QQ\bar q\bar q$/$\bar Q\bar Q qq$ ($q=u,d$), are studied in a unified constituent quark model. This model contains the one-gluon exchange and confinement potentials. The latter is modeled as the sum of all two-body linear potentials. We employ the Gaussian expansion method to solve the full four-body Schrödinger equations, and search bound and resonant states using the complex-scaling method. We then identify $3$ bound and $62$ resonant states. The bound states are all $QQ\bar q\bar q$ states with the isospin and spin-parity quantum numbers $I(J^P)=0(1^+)$: two bound $bb\bar{q}\bar{q}$ states with the binding energies, 153 MeV and 4 MeV below the $BB^*$ threshold, and a shallow $cc\bar{q}\bar{q}$ state at $-15$ MeV from the $DD^*$ threshold. The deeper $bb\bar q \bar q$ bound state aligns with the lattice QCD predictions, while $cc\bar q\bar q$ bound state, still has a much larger binding energy than the recently observed $T^+_{cc}$ by LHCb collaboration. No bound states are identified for the $QQ\bar Q'\bar Q'$, $QQ\bar s\bar s$ and $QQ\bar q\bar q$ with $I=1$. Our analysis shows that the bound $QQ\bar Q'\bar Q'$ states are more probable with a larger mass ratio, $m_Q/m_{Q'}$. Experimental investigation for these states is desired, which will enrich our understanding of hadron spectroscopy and probe insights into the confinement mechanisms within tetraquarks.

Quark Confinement for Multi-Quark Systems -- Application to Fully-Charmed Tetraquarks

A new color basis system and confinement mechanism for multi-quark systems are proposed according to the string-type picture of QCD. The color string configurations in the strong coupling QCD are implemented in the set of color basis states. The extended color Hilbert space for $QQ\bar Q\bar Q$ systems includes a ''hidden color'' state, which mixes with two-meson states $Q\bar Q+Q\bar Q$, This mixing effect leads to an attractive potential sufficient to form a bound state. We apply a realistic Hamiltonian model with the new scheme to fully charmed tetraquark states, $cc\bar c\bar c$, and find a bound and two resonant states, which could potentially correspond to the $cc\bar c\bar c$ tetraquark candidates recently observed in experiments.

Chiral perturbation theory for heavy hadrons and chiral effective field theory for heavy hadronic molecules

Chiral symmetry and its spontaneous breaking play an important role both in the light hadron and heavy hadron systems. The chiral perturbation theory ($χ$PT) is the low energy effective field theory of the QCD. In this work, we shall review the investigations on the chiral corrections to the properties of the heavy mesons and baryons within the framework of $χ$PT. We will also review the scatterings of the light pseudoscalar mesons and heavy hadrons, through which many new resonances such as the $D_{s0}^\ast(2317)$ could be understood. Moreover, many new hadron states were observed experimentally in the past decades. A large group of these states is near-threshold resonances, such as the charged charmoniumlike $Z_c$ and $Z_{cs}$ states, bottomoniumlike $Z_b$ states, hidden-charm pentaquark $P_c$ and $P_{cs}$ states and the doubly charmed $T_{cc}$ state, etc. They are very good candidates of the loosely bound molecular states composed of a pair of charmed (bottom) hadrons, which are very similar to the loosely bound deuteron. The modern nuclear force was built upon the chiral effective field theory ($χ$EFT), which is the extension of the $χ$PT to the systems with two matter fields. The long-range and medium-long-range interactions between two nucleons arise from the single- and double-pion exchange respectively, which are well constrained by the chiral symmetry and its spontaneous breaking. The short-distance interactions can be described by the low energy constants. Such a framework works very well for the nucleon-nucleon scattering and nuclei. In this work, we will perform an extensive review of the progress on the heavy hadronic molecular states within the framework of $χ$EFT. We shall emphasize that the same chiral dynamics not only govern the nuclei and forms the deuteron, but also dictates the shallow bound states or resonances composed of two heavy hadrons.

The investigations of the $P$-wave $B_s$ states combining quark model and lattice QCD in the coupled channel framework

Combining the quark model, the quark-pair-creation mechanism and $B^{(*)}\bar K$ interaction, we have investigated the near-threshold $P$-wave $B_s$ states in the framework of the Hamiltonian effective field theory. With the heavy quark flavor symmetry, all the parameters are determined in the $D_s$ sector by fitting the lattice data. The masses of the bottom-strange partners of the $D^{*}_{s0}(2317)$ and $D^{*}_{s1}(2460)$ are predicted to be $M_{B^{*}_{s0}}=5730.2_{-1.5}^{+2.4}$ MeV and $M_{B^{*}_{s1}}= 5769.6_{-1.6}^{+2.4}$ MeV, respectively, which are well consistent with the lattice QCD simulation. The two $P$-wave $B_s$ states are the mixtures of the bare $\bar b s$ core and $B^{(*)}\bar K$ component. Moreover, we find a crossing point between the energy levels with and without the interaction Hamiltonian in the finite volume spectrum in the $0^+$ case, which corresponds to a CDD (Castillejo-Dalitz-Dyson) zero in the $T$-matrix of the $B\bar K$ scattering. This CDD zero will help deepen the insights of the near-threshold states and can be examined by future lattice calculation.

$S$-wave fully charmed tetraquark resonant states

We calculate the mass spectrum of the $S$-wave fully-charmed tetraquark resonant states $cc\bar c\bar c $ in the nonrelativistic quark model, which successfully describes the charmonium spectrum. The four-body system is solved with the Gaussian expansion method. The complex scaling technique is used to identify the genuine resonances. With the nonrelativistic quark model, our results show the existence of two $cc\bar c\bar c$ resonances in each of the $J^{PC}=$ $0^{++}$, $1^{+-}$ and $2^{++}$ sectors, respectively. In the $S$-wave sector, no resonance is found at the energy region of the $X(6200)$ and $X(6600)$ states. The lower $0^{++}$ and $2^{++}$ resonances are located around $100$ MeV higher than the $X(6900)$ state observed in experiments but have the decay widths consistent with the experiment. The higher $0^{++}$ and $2^{++}$ resonances are found at around $7.2$ GeV with the widths of $60.6$ MeV and $91.2$ MeV, respectively, and they may be good candidates for the $X(7200)$ state.

Novel coupled channel framework connecting quark model and lattice QCD: an investigation on near-threshold $D_s$ states

A novel framework is proposed to extract near-threshold resonant states from finite-volume energy levels of lattice QCD and is applied to elucidate structures of the positive parity $D_s$. The quark model, the quark-pair-creation mechanism and $D^{(*)}K$ interaction are incorporated into the Hamiltonian effective field theory. The bare $1^+$ $c\bar s$ states are almost purely given by the states with heavy-quark spin bases. The physical $D^*_{s0}(2317)$ and $D^*_{s1}(2460)$ are the mixtures of bare $c\bar s$ core and $D^{(*)}K$ component, while the $D^*_{s1}(2536)$ and $D^*_{s2}(2573)$ are almost dominated by bare $c\bar{s}$. Furthermore, our model reproduces the clear level crossing of the $D^*_{s1}(2536)$ with the scattering state at a finite volume.

Revisit the isospin violating decays of $X(3872)$

In this work, we revisit the isospin violating decays of $X(3872)$ in a coupled-channel effective field theory. In the molecular scheme, the $X(3872)$ is interpreted as the bound state of $\bar{D}^{*0}D^0/\bar{D}^0D^{*0}$ and $D^{*-}D^+/D^-D^{*+}$ channels. In a cutoff-independent formalism, we relate the coupling constants of $X(3872)$ with the two channels to the molecular wave function. The isospin violating decays of $X(3872)$ are obtained by two equivalent approaches, which amend some deficiencies about this issue in literature. In the quantum field theory approach, the isospin violating decays arise from the coupling constants of $X(3872)$ to two di-meson channels. In the quantum mechanics approach, the isospin violating is attributed to wave functions at the origin. We illustrate that how to cure the insufficient results in literature. Within the comprehensive analysis, we bridge the isospin violating decays of $X(3872)$ to its inner structure. Our results show that the proportion of the neutral channel in $X(3872)$ is over $80\%$. As a by-product, we calculate the strong decay width of $X(3872)\to \bar{D}^0 D^0π^0$ and radiative one $X(3872)\to \bar{D}^0 D^0γ$. The strong decay width and radiative decay width are about 30 keV and 10 keV, respectively, for the binding energy from $-300$ keV to $-50$ keV.

Probing the long-range structure of the $T_{cc}^+$ with the strong and electromagnetic decays

Very recently, the LHCb Collaboration reported the doubly charmed tetraquark state $T_{cc}^+$ below the $D^{*+}D^0$ threshold about $273$ keV. As a very near-threshold state, its long-distance structure is very important. In the molecular scheme, we relate the coupling constants of $T_{cc}^+$ with $D^{*0}D^+$ and $D^{*+}D^0$ to its binding energy and mixing angle of two components with a coupled-channel effective field theory. With the coupling constants, we investigate the kinetically allowed strong decays $T_{cc}^+\to D^0D^0π^+$, $T_{cc}^+\to D^+D^0π^0$ and radiative decays $D^+D^0 γ$. Our results show that the decay width of $T_{cc}^+\to D^0D^0π^+$ is the largest one, which is just the experimental observation channel. Our theoretical total strong and radiative widths are in favor of the $T_{cc}^+$ as a $|D^{*+}D^0\rangle$ dominated bound state. The total strong and radiative width in the single channel limit and isospin singlet limit are given as $59.7^{+4.6}_{-4.4} \text{ keV}$ and $46.7^{+2.7}_{-2.9} \text{ keV}$, respectively. Our calculation is cutoff-independent and without prior isospin assignment. The absolute partial widths and ratios of the different decay channels can be used to test the structure of $T_{cc}^+$ state when the updated experimental results are available.
