Bottomonium suppression with a machine-learning-informed Debye mass

Motivated by recent progress in data-driven approaches, we introduce a machine-learning (ML)-informed Debye mass, extracted from lattice-informed inputs, exclusively in the complex-valued heavy-quark Kent State University (KSU) potential. The resulting complex potential is used to solve the real-time Schrödinger equation within the quantum trajectories (QTraj) framework for the evolution of bottomonium in the quark-gluon plasma. We then compute the nuclear modification factors and double ratios for bottomonium $Υ(1S)$, $Υ(2S)$, and $Υ(3S)$ states in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 5.02$ TeV. We compare our ML-induced results with those from the original KSU model and with experimental measurements from ALICE, ATLAS, and CMS collaborations. We find that the machine-learned Debye mass leads to improved agreement with data, particularly for excited states, highlighting the utility of machine learning in modeling in-medium QCD effects.

Nuclear modification of heavy flavor decayed dielectrons in relativistic heavy-ion collisions

Dielectrons from heavy flavor hadron decays not only constitute a crucial background to their thermal spectrum in high-energy nuclear collisions, from which the temperature of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) is extracted, but also provide a valuable probe of heavy quark interactions with the QGP. Using a linear Boltzmann transport (LBT) model to describe heavy quark evolution inside the QGP and a hybrid fragmentation-coalescence model for their hadronization, we find heavy quark energy loss softens the invariant mass spectrum of their decayed dielectrons and yields a higher value of the extracted QGP temperature, while coalescence hardens the spectrum and yields a lower value. Taking into account full medium effects leads to higher values of the extracted temperature than using vacuum baselines of heavy flavor decayed dielectrons in analyzing the experimental data. In addition, we find the angular correlations between dielectron pairs are sensitive to heavy quark interactions with the QGP: the radial flow of the QGP enhances the near-side correlations, and scatterings between heavy quarks and the QGP broaden the away-side correlations, with elastic and string interactions playing a dominant role.

Photon bremsstrahlung from heavy quarks in a dense nuclear matter

We study the bremsstrahlung photon production from a hard jet parton induced by rescattering with a dense nuclear medium. Using the charged current interaction channel of deep inelastic scattering between an electron and a large nucleus, we derive the spectrum of medium-induced photons emitted from high-energy heavy and light quarks at the next-to-leading twist in a unified framework. Going beyond the collinear expansion approximation, we show that the photon spectrum is determined by the full momentum distribution of the gluon exchanged between the propagating quark and the medium, or equivalently, by the differential elastic scattering rate of the hard quark inside the medium. Modeling the gluon field with a static Debye screened potential reduces the photon spectrum to a dependence on the transverse momentum distribution of the exchanged gluon. This work provides a more reliable input for future phenomenological studies of quark mass effects on jet-induced photon production in relativistic heavy-ion collisions.

Unbiased Data-Driven Determination of the Nuclear Dipole Amplitude in the Color Glass Condensate

Gluon saturation limits the growth of parton densities at small Bjorken-$x$ and is expected to be most pronounced in heavy nuclei. Yet quantitative extractions of the nuclear gluon dipole amplitude have long relied on parametrized initial conditions, introducing uncontrolled model dependence that obscures genuine nuclear effects. We introduce a physics-informed neural-network framework that embeds the collinearly improved Balitsky-Kovchegov evolution equation directly into the training objective, allowing the impact-parameter-averaged dipole amplitude to be determined from data without assuming a functional form for its initial condition. Applying this framework to forward-hadron nuclear-modification-factor and coherent $J/ψ$ photoproduction data, we extract the $^{208}$Pb dipole amplitude at $x_0=0.01$ with QCD evolution and momentum-space positivity enforced throughout training. The evolved amplitude reproduces the measured cross sections across the available kinematic range and yields a saturation-scale ratio $Q_{s0,\mathrm{Pb}}^2/Q_{s0,p}^2 = 3.17^{+0.17}_{-0.10}$, consistent with simple geometric scaling. The extracted Pb initial condition is well described by a McLerran-Venugopalan-type form, in contrast to the proton, reflecting the higher color-charge density of a large nucleus. Using the same amplitude, we predict the rapidity dependence of the transverse-momentum ratio in $pp$, $p$Pb, and Pb$p$ collisions, finding agreement with recent LHCb measurements at low multiplicity without any system-dependent parameters. This work provides the first unbiased, data-driven determination of nuclear structure in the saturation regime and establishes a general strategy for embedding nonlinear evolution equations into machine-learning extractions of dynamically constrained observables.

Physics-Informed Global Extraction of the Universal Small-$x$ Dipole Amplitude

We extract the universal small-$x$ dipole scattering amplitude $N(r,x_B)$ from a global analysis based on a physics-informed neural network (PINN), without imposing a priori MV-type parametrization of the initial condition. The network provides a smooth and differentiable surrogate for $N(r,x_B)$, whose rapidity dependence is constrained by the collinearly improved Balitsky--Kovchegov evolution equation, while its functional form is simultaneously constrained by Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS) data for the reduced total and charm cross sections, exclusive $J/ψ$ photoproduction measurements, and a positivity requirement for the momentum-space dipole amplitude. The resulting single universal amplitude consistently describes all fitted observables within a unified framework, alleviating the long-standing tension between total and charm channels encountered in conventional small-$x$ fits based on rigid parametric ansätze. Within the fitted kinematic domain, the best extracted PINN solution yields a smooth, non-negative momentum-space dipole over the full transverse-momentum range examined. Our results provide a robust and well-behaved input for Color Glass Condensate phenomenology across a broad class of high-energy processes.

An improved linear Boltzmann transport model for hadron and jet suppression in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions

Jets serve as powerful tomographic probes of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) created in relativistic heavy-ion collisions. While the expanding landscape of jet observables reveals multi-faceted aspects of jet-medium interactions, a precise and simultaneous description of the nuclear modification factors of hadrons and full jets remains a challenge for theoretical models. In this work, we present two essential improvements to the linear Boltzmann transport (LBT) model to bridge this gap. First, instead of implementing in-medium parton transport after vacuum parton showers complete, we introduce a medium scale at which in-medium parton transport is inserted into the vacuum parton showers, providing a more physical picture of parton-QGP interactions. Second, we incorporate color flow information into the LBT model, enabling string connections between partons whose configurations are correlated with the medium-modified parton showers before hadronization. We demonstrate that both improvements alter the predicted ratio of hadron to jet quenching, leading to a satisfactory unified description of the nuclear modification factors of hadrons and jets with different flavors.

Melting of heavy quarkonia in QGP using deep neural networks

Machine learning techniques have emerged as powerful tools for tackling non-perturbative challenges in quantum chromodynamics. In this study, we introduce a data-driven framework employing deep neural networks to systematically predict the temperature-dependent behavior of the screening mass $m_D(T)$ and the strong coupling constant $α_s(T)$ within a quark-gluon plasma medium. These medium-sensitive quantities are subsequently employed to compute the thermal widths $Γ_{\text{n}}(T)$ and binding energies $E_B(T)$ of heavy quarkonia states, specifically charmonia and bottomonia, by numerically solving the Schrödinger equation with medium-modified heavy quark potentials. To estimate the dissociation temperatures $T_d$ of various quarkonia states, we employ two complementary dissociation criteria: the conventional one, where $2E_B(T_d) = Γ_{\text{n}}(T_d)$, and an additional lower bound criterion defined by $E_B(T_d) = 3T_d$. This dual-criterion approach provides a more constrained and physically motivated estimate of the temperature range over which quarkonia states dissolve in the QGP environment. Our machine learning-enhanced predictions show excellent agreement with available lattice QCD results, especially for the ground states $Υ(1S)$ and $J/ψ$, and offer new perspectives on the sequential suppression pattern detected in relativistic heavy-ion collision experiments. Overall, this work advances the quantitative description of quarkonium suppression and demonstrates the prospect of modern machine learning methods to bridge theoretical predictions and experimental observations, thereby contributing significantly to QGP tomography.

Global polarization of $Λ$, $Ξ^{-}$, and $Ω^{-}$ hyperons in Au+Au collisions at RHIC BES-II energies

We investigate the global spin polarization of $Λ$ hyperons and the multi-strange hyperons $Ξ^{-}$ and $Ω^{-}$ in Au+Au collisions across the RHIC Beam Energy Scan II (BES-II) energy range, $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=7.7$--$27$ GeV. The polarization is computed using the modified Cooper--Frye formula, which includes contributions from thermal vorticity, the thermal shear tensor, and the gradient of the baryon chemical potential, combined with the (3+1)-dimensional viscous hydrodynamic framework CLVisc with SMASH initial conditions. We present the global polarization as a function of collision energy, centrality, transverse momentum, and rapidity. We find that the global polarization of $Ω^{-}$ is systematically larger than those of $Λ$ and $Ξ^{-}$ because of its larger spin quantum number, but it remains below the central value of the recent STAR measurement. This discrepancy may suggest that additional mechanisms, such as spin correlations among strange quarks inside the $Ω^{-}$, could contribute to the observed $Ω^{-}$ polarization. We also find that the global-polarization splitting between hyperons and anti-hyperons increases toward lower collision energies and is dominated by the chemical-potential-gradient contribution.

Four-dimensional QCD equation of state from a quasi-parton model with physics-informed neural networks

The equation of state (EoS) of strongly interacting matter at finite temperature and chemical potentials (baryon, charge, and strangeness) is a crucial input for hydrodynamic simulations of relativistic heavy-ion collisions. We construct a four-dimensional EoS using a deep-learning-assisted quasi-particle model (DLQPM) within a physics-informed neural network (PINN) framework, in which the masses of light quarks, strange quarks, and gluons are parameterized as functions of temperature and chemical potentials ($T, μ_B, μ_Q, μ_S$). The model is constrained by lattice QCD data at vanishing chemical potentials and provides a thermodynamically consistent extrapolation to finite $μ_{B,Q,S}$. The DLQPM accurately reproduces the lattice-calculated cumulants $χ^{B,Q,S}_{i,j,k}$ at $μ_{B,Q,S}=0$, and its predicted EoS at various chemical potentials agrees well with results from the generalized $T'$-expansion method in lattice QCD. Furthermore, the calculated baryon-strangeness correlation $C_{BS}$ is consistent, within uncertainties, with preliminary STAR data. This work offers a reliable EoS for exploring the QCD phase structure in the beam energy scan region.

Uncover the correlation between jet energy correlators and multiplicity fluctuations

The energy-energy correlator (EEC) and multiplicity are two fundamental observables probing complementary aspects of QCD jets: the former characterizes the angular structure of energy flows in a scale-dependent manner, while the latter is sensitive to the entire history of particle production. In this \emph{Letter}, we uncover a nontrivial correlation between them by studying the EEC as a function of jet internal multiplicity. We introduce the multiplicity-conditioned EEC jet function (MCJF) and perform a factorization calculation to next-to-leading order accuracy. It is found that, for jet samples selected at a given normalized multiplicity $ν= N_{\rm ch}/\langle N_{\rm ch} \rangle$, the EEC in the angular region $Λ_{\rm QCD}/p_{T,\rm jet}\llχ\ll R$ acquires a $ν$-dependent anomalous dimension. Thus the $ν$-conditioned EEC provides a direct and robust probe to the multiplicity generating function in the perturbative regime. In addition, understanding $ν$ dependence of the EEC is also crucial for isolating possible multiplicity-dependent bias effects in the EEC measurements in nuclear environment.

Global polarization of $Λ$ hyperons and its sensitivity to equations of state in low-energy heavy-ion collisions

Significant global polarization of $Λ$ hyperons along the direction of the orbital angular momentum has been measured in non-central heavy-ion collisions where the equation of state (EOS) of the produced dense matter is expected to change from intermediate to low colliding energies. We study the sensitivity of the global $Λ$ polarization to EOS in heavy-ion collisions within the SMASH transport model. Among the three different EOS we considered, only the hadron resonance gas (HRG) describes the experimental data well at low colliding energies even when it is below the $Λ$ production threshold in nucleon-nucleon collisions. The polarization induced by thermal vorticity as a function of centrality, rapidity, and transverse momentum at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 3$ GeV in Au+Au collisions is shown to agree well with the experimental data. Our study also indicates a possible peak in the global $Λ$ polarization around $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 2.4$ GeV in Au+Au collisions. Furthermore, we find that the rapidity and transverse momentum-dependent helicity polarization induced by thermal vorticity vanishes due to space-reversal symmetry.

Mapping Nuclear Deformation with Differential Radial Flow in Heavy-Ion Collisions

In relativistic heavy-ion collisions, the radial flow of the fireball, usually characterized by transverse momentum spectra of final-state particles, encodes essential information about the hot and dense nuclear matter created in the collisions. However, the response of radial flow, including its $p_T$-differential structure $v_0(p_T)$ and longitudinal fluctuations $v_0(η)$, to intrinsic nuclear deformation remains unexplored. Using realistic $(3+1)$-dimensional viscous hydrodynamic calculations with Trento-3D initial conditions, we investigate how nuclear deformation affects the differential radial flow. We observe a clear, positive correlation between quadrupole deformation $β_2$ and radial flow: both magnitudes of $v_0$ and $v_0(p_T)$ are enhanced in central collisions when $β_2$ is increased. In contrast, the Pearson coefficient $ρ(n(p_T), [p_T])$ exhibits a universal step-like behavior across all collision systems and centralities. Further analysis of longitudinal decorrelation of radial flow reveals a rich structure: in central collisions, large $β_2$ tends to suppress the decorrelation, whereas hexadecapole deformation $β_4$ tends to enhance it. Such decorrelation effect increases toward peripheral collisions. Our results demonstrate that precise measurements of radial flow, spanning transverse momentum and longitudinal dependences, can provide powerful, complementary constraints on nuclear deformation in high-energy nucleus-nucleus collisions.

Internal multiplicity distributions of jets from nonlinear evolution within the jet function framework

Jets selected with high internal charged-particle multiplicity exhibit markedly different substructure patterns compared to inclusive jet samples. Such correlations motivate a systematic study of jet observables as a function of the normalized multiplicity, $ν= N_{\rm ch}/\langle N_{\rm ch}\rangle$. In this work, we develop a theoretical framework for the full charged-particle multiplicity distribution of exclusive and inclusive jets, formulated within the jet-function approach. The hard production and jet function are evaluated at NLO+LL$_R$ accuracy. The internal parton dynamics governing the multiplicity distribution are described by coupled nonlinear branching equations with angular ordering, supplemented by a nonperturbative modeling term that accounts for hadron-level effects. The resulting predictions are validated against \textsc{Pythia8} simulations and compared with CMS data. We examine the effects of both nonperturbative and perturbative components in shaping the multiplicity distribution, and show that Koba--Nielsen--Olesen (KNO) scaling is notably violated in the region $ν> 2$ in the full solution, with a trend consistent with Monte Carlo results. This framework that numerically solves the nonlinear multiplicity evolution goes beyond DLA-like approximations and reproduces key features seen in event generators, providing a solid foundation for future investigations of multiplicity -- conditioned jet substructure within the jet function formalism.

Hydrodynamic effects on spin polarization along the beam direction in Au+Au and p+Pb collisions

We investigate hydrodynamic effects on the spin polarization of $Λ$ hyperons in Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 200$ GeV and p+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 8.16$ TeV using the CLVisc hydrodynamic framework. We present numerical results for the second Fourier sine coefficient of the longitudinal spin polarization, $\langle P_{z} \sin 2(ϕ_{p} - Ψ_{2}) \rangle$, as a function of multiplicity (centrality) under three equilibrium scenarios: $Λ$ equilibrium, $s$-quark equilibrium, and isothermal equilibrium. We highlight the respective roles of thermal vorticity and the thermal-shear tensor in generating $\langle P_{z} \sin 2(ϕ_{p} - Ψ_{2}) \rangle$ across collision systems and scenarios.

Nuclear modification of $B_c$ mesons in relativistic heavy-ion collisions based on a linear Boltzmann transport model

The nuclear modification factor ($R_\mathrm{AA}$) of $B_c$ mesons in high-energy nuclear collisions provides a novel probe of heavy quark interactions with the quark-gluon plasma (QGP). Based on a linear Boltzmann transport model that incorporates both Yukawa and string types of interactions between heavy quarks and the QGP, we study the production and evolution of heavy quarks and $B_c$ mesons within the same framework. A $B_c$ bound state dissociates while one of its constituent heavy quarks scatters with the QGP with momentum transfer greater than its binding energy. The medium-modified charm and bottom quarks can recombine into $B_c$ mesons, and the medium-modified bottom quarks can also fragment to $B_c$ mesons. We find that most primordial $B_c$ mesons generated from the initial hard collisions dissociate inside the QGP. The production of $B_c$ mesons is primarily driven by the recombination mechanism at low transverse momentum and fragmentation at high transverse momentum. The string interaction dominates over the Yukawa interaction in the nuclear modification of $B_c$ mesons. The participant number dependence of the $B_c$ meson $R_\mathrm{AA}$ is determined by the complicated interplay between the heavy quark yield, energy loss, and the QGP volume. We obtain a reasonable description of the $R_\mathrm{AA}$ of $B_c$ mesons in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}=5.02$ TeV, and provide predictions for Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}=200$ GeV.

Nuclear equation of state at finite $μ_B$ using deep learning assisted quasi-parton model

To accurately determine the nuclear equation of state (EoS) at finite baryon chemical potential ($μ_B$) remains a challenging yet essential goal in the study of QCD matter under extreme conditions. In this study, we develop a deep learning assisted quasi-parton model, which utilizes three deep neural networks, to reconstruct the QCD EoS at zero $μ_B$ and predict the EoS and transport coefficient $η/s$ at finite $μ_B$. The EoS derived from our quasi-parton model shows excellent agreement with lattice QCD results obtained using Taylor expansion techniques. The minimum value of $η/s$ is found to be approximately 175 MeV and decreases with increasing chemical potential within the confidence interval. This model not only provides a robust framework for understanding the properties of the QCD EoS at finite $μ_B$ but also offers critical input for relativistic hydrodynamic simulations of nuclear matter produced in heavy-ion collisions by the RHIC beam energy scan program.

Probing medium response via strangeness enhancement around quenched jets

Jet-induced medium excitation is a crucial part of jet interactions with the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) in relativistic heavy-ion collisions, and has recently been confirmed by experiment for the first time. Based on the AMPT model simulation, we propose the strangeness enhancement around quenched jets as a novel signature of jet-induced medium excitation. By applying the jet-particle correlation techniques, we calculate jet-induced particle yields around the jets and find a significant enhancement of the strange-to-non-strange-hadron ratio and the double-to-single-strange-hadron ratio correlated with jets in relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions relative to proton-proton collisions. This enhancement increases with both the strength of jet-QGP interactions and the radial distance from jet axis. These observations align with the features of jet-induced medium excitation and parton coalescence in hadron formation, and await experimental validation in the future measurements.

Flavor Hierarchy of Jet Energy Correlators inside the Quark-Gluon Plasma

Heavy flavor jets provide ideal tools to probe the mass effect on jet substructure in both vacuum and quark-gluon plasma (QGP). Energy-energy correlator (EEC) is an excellent jet substructure observable owning to its strong sensitivity to jet physics at different scales. We perform a complete realistic simulation on medium modification of heavy and light flavor jet EEC in heavy-ion collisions. A clear flavor hierarchy is observed for jet EEC in both vacuum and QGP due to the mass effect. The medium modification of inclusive jet EEC at different angular scales exhibits very rich structure: suppression at intermediate angles, and enhancement at small and large angles, which can be well explained by the interplay of mass effect, energy loss, medium-induced radiation and medium response. These unique features of jet EEC are shown to probe the physics of jet-medium interaction at different scales, and can be readily validated by upcoming experiments.
