Extra-cavity-enhanced difference-frequency generation at 1.63 μm

A 1632-nm laser has highly important applications in interfacing the wavelength of rubidium-based quantum memories (795 nm) and the telecom band (typically 1550 nm) by frequency conversion in three-wave mixing processes. A 1632-nm laser source based on pump-enhanced difference frequency generation is demonstrated. It has 300 mW of output power, in agreement with simulations, and a 55% quantum efficiency. An average power fluctuation of 0.51% over one hour was observed, and 200-kHz linewidth was measured using a delayed self-heterodyne method.

Gradient optimization of fermionic projected entangled pair states on directed lattices

The recently developed stochastic gradient method combined with Monte Carlo sampling techniques [PRB {\bf 95}, 195154 (2017)] offers a low scaling and accurate method to optimize the projected entangled pair states (PEPS). We extended this method to the fermionic PEPS (fPEPS). To simplify the implementation, we introduce a fermi arrow notation to specify the order of the fermion operators in the virtual entangled EPR pairs. By defining some local operation rules associated with the fermi arrows, one can implement fPEPS algorithms very similar to that of standard PEPS. We benchmark the method for the interacting spinless fermion models, and the t-J models. The numerical calculations show that the gradient optimization greatly improves the results of simple update method. Furthermore, much larger virtual bond dimensions ($D$) and truncation dimensions ($D_c$) than those of boson and spin systems are necessary to converge the results. The method therefore offer a powerful tool to simulate fermion systems because it has much lower scaling than the direct contraction methods.

Orbital Angular Momentum embedded Einstein Podolsky Rosen Entanglement Generated from Cold Atoms

The Einstein Podolsky Rosen (EPR) entangled quantum state is of special importance not only for fundamental research in quantum mechanics, but also for information processing in the field of quantum information. Previous EPR entangled state demonstrations were constructed with photons of equal phase wave fronts. More complex scenarios with structured wave fronts have not been investigated. Here, we report the first experimental demonstration of EPR entanglement for photon pairs carrying orbital angular momentum (OAM) information, resulting in an OAM embedded EPR entangled state. We measured the dynamics of the dependence of the ghost interference on relative phase under projection. In addition, the reconstructed matrix in the OAM and EPR position momentum spaces shows a specific hyper entanglement in high dimension.

Ultrafast Manipulation of a Double Quantum Dot via Lyapunov Control Method

For a double quantum dot (DQD) system, here we propose alternative ultrafast manipulate approach: Lyapunov control method, to transfer the state from R to L on the picosecond scale, orders of magnitude faster and transfer probability higher than the previously measured electrically controlled charge- or spin-based quits. The control laws are composed of two-direction components, one is used to eliminate the dissipation in the system, another is used to transfer the state. The control theory's stability ensures the system can be transferred to the target state in high probability, and the coefficients in control laws leads very fast convergence. The role of eliminating the dissipation plays the suppression of decoherence effect. Numerical simulation results show that under the realistic implementation conditions, the transfer probability and fidelity can be increased up to 98.79% and 98.97%, respectively. This is the first result directly applicable to a DQD system's state transferring using the Lyapunov control method. We also give specific experimental realization scheme.

Slow Exciton Spin Relaxation in Single Self-Assembled In$_{1-x}$Ga$_x$As/GaAs Quantum Dots

We calculate the acoustic phonon-assisted exciton spin relaxation in single self-assembled In$_{1-x}$Ga$_x$As/GaAs quantum dots using an atomic empirical pseudopotential method. We show that the transition from bright to dark exciton states is induced by Coulomb correlation effects. The exciton spin relaxation time obtained from sophisticated configuration interaction calculations is approximately 15--55 $μ$s in pure InAs/GaAs QDs and even longer in alloy dots. These results contradict previous theoretical and experimental results, which suggest very short exciton spin times (a few ns), but agree with more recent experiments that suggest that excitons have long spin relaxation times ($>$ 1 $μ$s).

Simulation of non-Abelian Anyons using ribbon operators connected to a common base site

A convenient and effective way in the quantum double model to study anyons in a topological space with a tensor product structure is to create and braid anyons using ribbon operators connected to a common base site [A. Kitaev Ann.\ Phys. (N.Y.) \textbf{303}, 2 (2003)]. We show how this scheme can be simulated in a physical system by constructing long ribbon operators connected to a base site that is placed faraway. We describe how to move and braid anyons using these ribbon operators, and how to perform measurement on them. We also give the smallest scale of a system that is sufficient for proof-of-principle demonstration of our scheme.

High Efficient Secret Key Distillation for Long Distance Continuous Variable Quantum Key Distribution

The continuous variable quantum key distribution is expected to provide high secret key rate without single photon source and detector, but the lack of the secure and effective key distillation method makes it unpractical. Here, we present a secure single-bit-reverse-reconciliation protocol combined with secret information concentration and post-selection, which can distill the secret key with high efficiency and low computational complexity. The simulation results show that this protocol can provide high secret key rate even when the transmission fiber is longer than 150km, which may make the continuous variable scheme to outvie the single photon one.

Intrinsic-Stabilization Uni-Directional Quantum Key Distribution Between Beijing and Tianjin

Quantum key distribution provides unconditional security for communication. Unfortunately, current experiment schemes are not suitable for long-distance fiber transmission because of instability or backscattering. We present a uni-directional intrinsic-stabilization scheme that is based on Michelson-Faraday interferometers, in which reflectors are replaced with 90 degree Faraday mirrors. With the scheme, key exchange from Beijing to Tianjin over 125 kilometers with an average error rate is below 6% has been achieved and its limited distance exceeds 150 kilometers. Experimental result shows the system is insensitive to environment and can run over day and night without any break even in the noise workshop.
