Field re-entrant superconductivity in Eu-doped infinite-layer nickelates

Intertwined superconducting and magnetic orders may give rise to exotic quantum phases, including field-induced and re-entrant superconductivity. However, such magnetism-enhanced superconductivity has remained elusive in superconductors with higher transition temperatures. While infinite-layer nickelates represent a new class of unconventional superconductors, the impact of rare-earth magnetism on superconducting properties remains largely unexplored. Here, we show that Eu-doped infinite-layer nickelate Sm$_{0.95-x}$Ca$_{0.05}$Eu$_x$NiO$_2$ exhibits a magnetic-field-induced re-entrant superconducting phase in the Eu-rich over-doped regime. Zero-resistance transport and high-field diamagnetic screening confirm the superconducting nature of this phase, which emerges after the initial suppression of low-field superconductivity and remains robust across a broad range of temperatures, fields and field orientations. In the same doping range, we observe nonlinear Hall transport and hysteretic magnetoresistance, indicating the unconventional nature of the re-entrant behaviour. While partially consistent with a compensation mechanism between the Eu-derived exchange field and the applied field, our data reveal pronounced deviations from this model at the highest-doping levels. Our findings establish infinite-layer nickelates as a fertile platform for exploring magnetically driven high-field superconductivity in strongly correlated oxides.

Quantized Topological States and Parity Anomaly in Intrinsic Quantum Anomalous Hall Insulator MnBi2Te4

When thinned down to just a few atomic layers, the layered magnetic topological insulator MnBi2Te4 offers an exceptional platform for exploring a wide range of topological phenomena. In this work, we overcome longstanding challenges in synthesizing high-purity MnBi2Te4 crystals and report the observation of a myriad of quantized topological states in high-quality five-septuple-layer (5-SL) samples under magnetic fields up to 45 Tesla. We show that the nontrivial topology of 5-SL MnBi2Te4, in the presence of Landau quantization, is governed by a generalized topological index rooted in the parity anomaly of Dirac fermions in (2+1) dimensions. The anomaly manifests as an anomalous Landau level, giving rise to gate-tunable helical edge transport. Our results establish high-quality MnBi2Te4 as a robust platform for exploring emergent topological states and for advancing novel quantum device applications.

Tunable even- and odd-denominator fractional quantum Hall states in trilayer graphene

The fractional quantum Hall (FQH) states are exotic quantum many-body phases whose elementary charged excitations are neither bosons nor fermions but anyons, obeying fractional braiding statistics. While most FQH states are believed to have Abelian anyons, the Moore-Read type states with even denominators, appearing at half filling of a Landau level (LL), are predicted to possess non-Abelian excitations with appealing potentials in topological quantum computation. These states, however, depend sensitively on the orbital contents of the single-particle LL wavefunction and the mixing between different LLs. Although they have been observed in a few materials, their non-Abelian statistics still awaits experimental confirmation. Here we show magnetotransport measurements on Bernal-stacked trilayer graphene (TLG), whose unique multiband structure facilitates the interlaced LL mixing, which can be controlled by external magnetic and displacement fields. We observe a series of robust FQH states including even-denominator ones at filling factors $ν=-9/2$, $-3/2$, $3/2$ and $9/2$. In addition, we are able to finetune the LL mixing and crossings to drive quantum phase transitions of these half-filling states and their neighboring odd-denominator ones, exhibiting a related emerging and waning behavior. Our results establish TLG as a controllable system for tuning the weights of LL orbitals and mixing strength, and a fresh platform to seek for non-Abelian quasi-particles.
