Elucidating the Synergetic Interplay between Average Intermolecular Coupling and Coupling Disorder in Short-Time Exciton Transfer

Exciton transport in molecular aggregates is a fundamental process governing the performance of organic optoelectronics and light-harvesting systems. While most theoretical studies have emphasized long-time transport behavior, recent advances in ultrafast spectroscopy have brought into focus the short-time regime, in which exciton motion remains ballistic on femtosecond-to-picosecond timescales. In this work, we develop an analytical framework for short-time exciton dynamics in a one-dimensional lattice subject to both on-site energetic (diagonal) disorder and intermolecular coupling (off-diagonal) fluctuations. Utilizing the reciprocal-space analysis, we derive closed-form expressions for the first and second spatial moments considering both localized excitation and moving Gaussian initial conditions. Our analytical and numerical results show that, while the long-time dynamics are influenced by diagonal disorder, the short-time ballistic expansion is governed primarily by off-diagonal disorder. Crucially, we reveal a synergistic interplay between the average intermolecular coupling and the off-diagonal coupling disorder strength, demonstrating that they contribute equivalently to short-time exciton transport. Moreover, we integrate this generic disorder model with a realistic molecular system within the framework of macroscopic quantum electrodynamics, thereby providing a theoretical foundation for characterizing and optimizing ultrafast energy flow of disordered molecular aggregates in complex dielectric media.

MQED-QD: An Open-Source Package for Quantum Dynamics Simulation in Complex Dielectric Environments

Simulating the dynamics of molecular excitons in complex nanophotonic environments requires integrating rigorous electromagnetic simulations with accurate treatments of open quantum system dynamics. In this work, we develop MQED-QD (Macroscopic Quantum Electrodynamics for Quantum Dynamics), a robust computational package for simulating exciton dynamics in arbitrary dielectric and plasmonic environments. Based on the MQED framework, the package offers a unified workflow for constructing the dyadic Green's functions from classical electromagnetic solvers, parametrizing quantum master equations, and propagating the time evolution to determine the molecular subsystem's dynamical properties. To demonstrate the package's capabilities, we simulate exciton transport within a one-dimensional molecular chain near a silver nanostructure, including benchmarking against planar surfaces and exploring the influence of silver nanorods. Our results reveal that surface plasmon polaritons on nanorods dramatically enhance long-range dipole-dipole interactions, accelerating exciton delocalization and yielding higher participation ratios compared to planar geometries. By elucidating accurate molecular exciton dynamics in conjunction with nanophotonics and plasmonics, MQED-QD provides a powerful, open-source package that facilitates the rational design of nanoscale architectures.

Astra: Toward General-Purpose Mobile Robots via Hierarchical Multimodal Learning

Modern robot navigation systems encounter difficulties in diverse and complex indoor environments. Traditional approaches rely on multiple modules with small models or rule-based systems and thus lack adaptability to new environments. To address this, we developed Astra, a comprehensive dual-model architecture, Astra-Global and Astra-Local, for mobile robot navigation. Astra-Global, a multimodal LLM, processes vision and language inputs to perform self and goal localization using a hybrid topological-semantic graph as the global map, and outperforms traditional visual place recognition methods. Astra-Local, a multitask network, handles local path planning and odometry estimation. Its 4D spatial-temporal encoder, trained through self-supervised learning, generates robust 4D features for downstream tasks. The planning head utilizes flow matching and a novel masked ESDF loss to minimize collision risks for generating local trajectories, and the odometry head integrates multi-sensor inputs via a transformer encoder to predict the relative pose of the robot. Deployed on real in-house mobile robots, Astra achieves high end-to-end mission success rate across diverse indoor environments.

Dissecting Exciton-Polariton Transport in Organic Molecular Crystals: Emerging Conductivity Assisted by Intermolecular Vibrational Coupling

In this work, we systematically investigate the spectral and transport properties of exciton-polaritons under the explicit influence of intermolecular vibrational coupling, which introduces dynamic disorder. In the context of a one-dimensional molecular chain strongly interacting with a cavity photon, we demonstrate the polaritonic characteristics of the spectral function and its interactions with the electronic band broadened by the coupling disorder. We further dissect the current flux into its bare excitonic contribution and transport via the cavity photon. Our results reveal that the enhancement in the charge carrier mobility and frequency-resolved conductivity stems from the photon-mediated current. More importantly, contrary to the intuition that dynamic disorder hinders transport, intermolecular vibrational coupling can facilitate exciton-polariton transport, offering an additional degree of tunability for material properties.

A locally statistical active contour model for SAR image segmentation can be solved by denoising algorithms

In this paper, we propose a novel locally statistical variational active contour model based on I-divergence-TV denoising model, which hybrides geodesic active contour (GAC) model with active contours without edges (ACWE) model, and can be used to segment images corrupted by multiplicative gamma noise. By adding a diffusion term into the level set evolution (LSE) equation of the proposed model, we construct a reaction-diffusion (RD) equation, which can gradually regularize the level set function (LSF) to be piecewise constant in each segment domain and gain the stable solution. We further transform the proposed model into a general ROF model by adding a proximity term ,and it can be solved by a fast denoising algorithm proposed by Jia-Zhao or soved by BM3D and NLM denoising algorithm, which also provide a unified solution framework for formally generalized-ROF-like subproblems arising in multivariate splitting algorithms.

Active contours driven by local and global intensity fitting energy with application to SAR image segmentation and its fast solvers

In this paper, we propose a novel variational active contour model based on Aubert-Aujol (AA) denoising model, which hybrides geodesic active contour (GAC) model with active contours without edges (ACWE) model and can be used to segment images corrupted by multiplicative gamma noise. We transform the proposed model into classic ROF model by adding a proximity term.[26] was submitted on 29-Aug-2013, and our early edition was ever submitted to TGRS on 12-Jun-2012, Venkatakrishnan et al.[27] proposed their PnP algorithm on 29-May-2013, so Venkatakrishnan and we proposed the PnP algorithm almost simultaneously. Inspired by a fast denosing algorithm proposed by Jia-Zhao recently, we propose two fast fixed point algorithms to solve SAR image segmentation question.

SAR image segmentation algorithms based on I-divergence-TV model

In this paper, we propose a novel variational active contour model based on I-divergence-TV model to segment Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images with multiplicative gamma noise, which hybrides edge-based model with region-based model. The proposed model can efficiently stop the contours at weak or blurred edges, and can automatically detect the exterior and interior boundaries of images. We further transform the proposed model into a general ROF model by adding a proximity term ,and it can be solved by a fast denoising algorithm proposed by Jia-Zhao or soved by BM3D and NLM denoising algorithm, which also provide a unified solution framework for formally generalized-ROF-like subproblems arising in multivariate splitting algorithms[25]. [25] was submitted on 29-Aug-2013, and our early edition was ever submitted to TGRS on 12-Jun-2012, Venkatakrishnan et al. [26] proposed their PnP algorithm on 29-May-2013, so Venkatakrishnan and we proposed the PnP algorithm almost simultaneously.

A global optimization SAR image segmentation model can be easily transformed to a general ROF denoising model

In this paper, we propose a novel locally statistical active contour model (LACM) based on Aubert-Aujol (AA) denoising model and variational level set method, which can be used for SAR images segmentation with intensity inhomogeneity. Then we transform the proposed model into a global optimization model by using convex relaxation technique. Firstly, we apply the Split Bregman technique to transform the global optimization model into two alternating optimization processes of Shrink operator and Laplace operator, which is called SB_LACM model. Moreover, we propose two fast models to solve the global optimization model , which are more efficient than the SB_LACM model. The first model is: we add the proximal function to transform the global optimization model to a general ROF model[29], which can be solved by a fast denoising algorithm proposed by R.-Q.Jia, and H.Zhao; [29] was submitted on 29-Aug-2013, and our early edition was ever submitted to TGRS on 12-Jun-2012, Venkatakrishnan et al. [30] proposed their PnP algorithm on 29-May-2013, so Venkatakrishnan and we proposed the PnP algorithm almost simultaneously. Thus we obtain a fast segmentation algorithm with global optimization solver that does not involve partial differential equations or difference equation, and only need simple difference computation. The second model is: we use a different splitting approach than one model to transform the global optimization model into a differentiable term and a general ROF model term, which can be solved by the same technique as the first model.

Nonadiabatic quantum dynamics of tribovoltaic effects at sliding metal-semiconductor interfaces

Recent experiments observe electric current generation at a sliding metal-semiconductor interfaces. Here, we present a detailed theoretical study on how electric voltage is generated at such a sliding interface. Our study is based on a two-band Anderson-Holstein model, and we solve the coupled electron-phonon dynamics using a surface hopping method. We show that the high local temperature induced by mechanic motion at the interfaces could lead to electron-hole pair generation through electron-phonon couplings. We quantify the efficiency of electron-hole generation as well as electric voltage as a function of local temperatures and semiconductor bandgaps. We find that increasing the local temperatures can lead to higher electron-hole generations and electric voltage. Furthermore, we find that there is a turnover for the electric voltage as a function of the bandgap. Such an observation is in agreement with the experimental results. Our study offers a theoretical framework to understand tribovoltaic effects from a quantum mechanical point of view, and our approach can be used to quantitively simulate realistic sliding metal-semiconductor junctions.
