Practical prescribed-time prescribed performance control with asymptotic convergence -- A vanishing sigma-modification approach

In this paper, we present a method capable of ensuring practical prescribed-time control with guaranteed performance for a class of nonlinear systems in the presence of time-varying parametric and dynamic uncertainties, and uncertain control coefficients. Our design consists of two key steps. First, we construct a performance-rate function that freezes at and after a user-specified time T, playing a crucial role in achieving desired precision within prescribed time T and dealing with unmodeled dynamics. Next, based on this function and a sigma-modification strategy in which the leakage term starts to vanish at t > T, we develop an adaptive dynamic surface control framework to reduce control complexity, deal with uncertainties, ensure prescribed performance, practical prescribed-time convergence to a specific region, and ultimately achieve asymptotic convergence. The effectiveness of the proposed control method is validated through numerical simulations.

Further Geometric and Lyapunov Characterizations of Incrementally Stable Systems on Finsler Manifolds

In this paper, we report several new geometric and Lyapunov characterizations of incrementally stable systems on Finsler and Riemannian manifolds. A new and intrinsic proof of an important theorem in contraction analysis is given via the complete lift of the system. Based on this, two Lyapunov characterizations of incrementally stable systems are derived, namely, converse contraction theorems, and revelation of the connection between incremental stability and stability of an equilibrium point, in which the second result recovers and extends the classical Krasovskii's method.

Adaptive Control of Uncertain Pure-feedback Nonlinear Systems

A novel adaptive control approach is proposed to solve the globally asymptotic state stabilization problem for uncertain pure-feedback nonlinear systems which can be transformed into the pseudo-affine form. The pseudo-affine pure-feedback nonlinear system under consideration is with non-linearly parameterised uncertainties and possibly unknown control coefficients. Based on the parameter separation technique, a backstepping controller is designed by adopting the adaptive high gain idea. The rigorous stability analysis shows that the proposed controller could guarantee, for any initial system condition, boundedness of the closed-loop signals and globally asymptotic stabilization of the state. A numerical and a realistic examples are employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control method.
