Nuclear recoil correction to the g factor of boron-like argon

The nuclear recoil effect to the g factor of boron-like ions is investigated. The one-photon-exchange correction to the nuclear recoil effect is calculated in the non-relativistic approximation for the nuclear recoil operator and in the Breit approximation for the interelectronic-interaction operator. The screening potential is employed to estimate the higher-order contributions. The updated g-factor values are presented for the ground 2P_1/2 and first excited 2P_3/2 states of B-like argon 40^Ar^13+, which are presently being measured by the ARTEMIS group at GSI.

Algebraic Approach to Bare Nucleon Matrix Elements

An algebraic method for evaluating bare nucleon matrix elements of quark operators is proposed. Thereby, bare nucleon matrix elements are traced back to vacuum matrix elements. The method is similar to the soft pion theorem. Matrix elements of two-quark, four-quark and six-quark operators inside the bare nucleon are considered.

Renormalization of the two-photon vacuum polarization and the self energy vacuum polarization for a tightly bound electron

The renormalization method of Bogoljubov-Parasiuk-Hepp-Zimmermann (BPHZ) is used in order to derive the renormalized energy shift due to the gauge invariant Källén-Sabry diagram of the two-photon vacuum polarization (VPVP) as well as the self energy vacuum polarization S(VP)E beyond the Uehling approximation. It is outlined, that no outer renormalization is required for the two-photon vacuum polarization and that only the inner renormalization has to b e accomplished. It is shown that the so-called nongauge invariant spurious term is absent for a wide class of vacuum polarization (VP) diagrams if one applies the widely used spherical expansion of bound and free-electron propagat or. This simplifies significantly calculations in bound state quantum electrodynamis . As one result of our paper the use of the BPHZ-approach in bound state QED is established.

Quantum radiation in external background fields

A canonical formalism is presented which allows for investigations of quantum radiation induced by localized, smooth disturbances of classical background fields by means of a perturbation theory approach. For massless, non-selfinteracting quantum fields at zero temperature we demonstrate that the low-energy part of the spectrum of created particles exhibits a non-thermal character. Applied to QED in varying dielectrics the response theory approach facilitates to study two distinct processes contributing to the production of photons: the squeezing effect due to space-time varying properties of the medium and of the velocity effect due to its motion. The generalization of this approach to finite temperatures as well as the relation to sonoluminescence is indicated.
