Generic dijet soft functions at two-loop order: correlated emissions

We present a systematic algorithm for the perturbative computation of soft functions that are defined in terms of two light-like Wilson lines. Our method is based on a universal parametrisation of the phase-space integrals, which we use to isolate the singularities in Laplace space. The observable-dependent integrations can then be performed numerically, and they are implemented in the new, publicly available package SoftSERVE that we use to derive all of our numerical results. Our algorithm applies to both SCET-1 and SCET-2 soft functions, and in the current version it can be used to compute two out of three NNLO colour structures associated with the so-called correlated-emission contribution. We confirm existing two-loop results for about a dozen $e^+e^-$ and hadron-collider soft functions, and we obtain new predictions for the C-parameter as well as thrust-axis and broadening-axis angularities.

Two-loop anomalous dimensions of generic dijet soft functions

We present compact integral representations for the calculation of two-loop anomalous dimensions for a generic class of soft functions that are defined in terms of two light-like Wilson lines. Our results are relevant for the resummation of Sudakov logarithms for e+ e- event-shape variables and inclusive hadron-collider observables at next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy within Soft-Collinear Effective Theory (SCET). Our formalism applies to both SCET-1 and SCET-2 soft functions and we clarify the relation between the respective soft anomalous dimension and the collinear anomaly exponent. We confirm existing two-loop results for about a dozen dijet soft functions and obtain new predictions for the angularity event shape and the soft-drop jet-grooming algorithm.

$e^+ e^-$ angularity distributions at NNLL$^\prime$ accuracy

We present predictions for the $e^{+}e^{-}$ event shape angularities at NNLL$^{\prime}$ resummed and $\mathcal{O}(α_s^{2})$ matched accuracy and compare them to LEP data at center-of-mass energies $Q=91.2$ GeV and $Q=197$ GeV. We perform the resummation within the framework of Soft-Collinear Effective Theory, and make use of recent results for the two-loop angularity soft function. We determine the remaining NNLL$^{\prime}$ and $\mathcal{O}(α_s^2)$ ingredients from a fit to the EVENT2 generator, and implement a shape function with a renormalon-free gap parameter to model non-perturbative effects. Using values of the strong coupling $α_s(m_Z)$ and the universal non-perturbative shift parameter $Ω_1$ that are consistent with those obtained in previous fits to the thrust and $C$-parameter distributions, we find excellent agreement between our predictions and the LEP data for all angularities with $a\in[-1,0.5]$. This provides a robust test of the predictions of QCD, factorization, and the universal scaling of the non-perturbative shift across different angularities. Promisingly, our results indicate that current degeneracies in the $\{α_s(m_Z),Ω_1\}$ parameter space could be be alleviated upon fitting these parameters to experimental data for the angularity distributions.

Automated Calculation of ${\pmb N}$-jet Soft Functions

We present a systematic framework for the calculation of soft functions that are defined in terms of $N\geq2$ light-like Wilson lines. The formalism represents an extension of a method that we developed earlier for the calculation of dijet soft functions to the general $N$-jet case. We discuss the technical aspects of this generalisation, focussing on SCET-1 soft functions that obey the non-Abelian exponentiation theorem in this contribution. As a first application of our method, we consider the $N$-jettiness observable and present numerical results for the $1$-jettiness and $2$-jettiness hadron-collider soft functions to next-to-next-to-leading order in the perturbative expansion.

Automated Calculation of Dijet Soft Functions in the Presence of Jet Clustering Effects

We extend our framework for the automated calculation of dijet soft functions to observables that do not obey the non-Abelian exponentiation theorem, like jet-veto or grooming soft functions that are sensitive to clustering effects of the jet algorithm. Although the matrix element for uncorrelated double emissions has a simpler structure than the one for correlated emissions, we argue that its singularity structure poses more stringent constraints on the required phase-space parametrisation. Our algorithm applies to both SCET-1 and SCET-2 soft functions and it is implemented in the novel program SoftSERVE. We present results for various jet-veto observables and obtain new predictions for the soft-drop jet-grooming algorithm.

Automated Calculation of Dijet Soft Functions in Soft-Collinear Effective Theory

We present a systematic framework for the calculation of dijet soft functions, which are defined as a matrix element of two light-like Wilson lines that is weighted by a generic measurement function. Based on a universal parametrisation of the phase-space integrals, we isolate the singular terms in Laplace space and evaluate the observable-dependent integrations numerically. We discuss the implementation of our algorithm into the public program SecDec, and present results for various SCET-1 soft functions to two-loop order. In particular, we obtain new predictions for the C-parameter and the angularity variables. Finally, we discuss ongoing extensions and the future outlook of the project.

Two-loop current-current operator contribution to the non-leptonic QCD penguin amplitude

The computation of direct CP asymmetries in charmless B decays at next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in QCD is of interest to ascertain the short-distance contribution. Here we compute the two-loop penguin contractions of the current-current operators Q_{1,2} and provide a first estimate of NNLO CP asymmetries in penguin-dominated b -> s transitions.

Transverse-momentum spectra of electroweak bosons near threshold at NNLO

We obtain the next-to-next-to-leading order corrections to transverse-momentum spectra of W, Z and Higgs bosons near the partonic threshold. In the threshold limit, the electroweak boson recoils against a low-mass jet and all radiation is either soft, or collinear to the jet or the beam directions. We extract the virtual corrections from known results for the relevant two-loop four-point amplitudes and combine them with the soft and collinear two-loop functions as defined in Soft-Collinear Effective Theory. We have implemented these results in a public code PeTeR and present numerical results for the threshold resummed cross section of W and Z bosons at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy, matched to next-to-leading fixed-order perturbation theory. The two-loop corrections lead to a moderate increase in the cross section and reduce the scale uncertainty by about a factor of two. The corrections are significantly larger for Higgs production.

The transverse-momentum spectrum of Higgs bosons near threshold at NNLO

We give next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) predictions for the Higgs production cross section at large transverse momentum in the threshold limit. Near the partonic threshold, all radiation is either soft or collinear to the final state jet which recoils against the Higgs boson. We find that the real emission corrections are of moderate size, but that the virtual corrections are large. We discuss the origin of these corrections and give numerical predictions for the transverse-momentum spectrum. The threshold result is matched to the known NLO result and implemented in the public code PeTeR.

Master integrals for the two-loop penguin contribution in non-leptonic B-decays

We compute the master integrals that arise in the calculation of the leading penguin amplitudes in non-leptonic B-decays at two-loop order. The application of differential equations in a canonical basis enables us to give analytic results for all master integrals in terms of iterated integrals with rational weight functions. It is the first application of this method to the case of two different internal masses.

Enhanced non-perturbative effects through the collinear anomaly

We show that non-perturbative effects are logarithmically enhanced for transverse-momentum-dependent observables such as q_T-spectra of electroweak bosons in hadronic collisions and jet broadening at e^+e^- colliders. This enhancement arises from the collinear anomaly, a mechanism characteristic for transverse observables, which induces logarithmic dependence on the hard scale in the product of the soft and collinear matrix elements. Our analysis is based on an operator product expansion and provides, for the first time, a systematic, model-independent way to study non-perturbative effects for this class of observables. For the case of jet broadening, we relate the leading correction to the non-perturbative shift of the thrust distribution.

Light-Cone Distribution Amplitudes for Heavy-Quark Hadrons

We construct parametrizations of light-cone distribution amplitudes (LCDAs) for B-mesons and Lambda_b-baryons that obey various theoretical constraints, and which are simple to use in factorization theorems relevant for phenomenological applications in heavy-flavour physics. In particular, we find the eigenfunctions of the Lange-Neubert renormalization kernel, which allow for a systematic implementation of renormalization-group evolution effects for both B-meson and Λ_b-baryon decays. We also present a new strategy to construct LCDA models from momentum-space projectors, which can be used to implement Wandzura-Wilczek--like relations, and which allow for a comparison with theoretical approaches that go beyond the collinear limit for the light-quark momenta in energetic heavy-hadron decays.

NNLL Resummation for Jet Broadening

The resummation for the event-shape variable jet broadening is extended to next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy by computing the relevant jet and soft functions at one-loop order and the collinear anomaly to two-loop accuracy. The anomaly coefficient is extracted from the soft function and expressed in terms of polylogarithmic as well as elliptic functions. With our results, the uncertainty on jet-broadening distributions is reduced significantly, which should allow for a precise determination of the strong coupling constant from the existing experimental data and provide a consistency check on the extraction of alpha_s from higher-log resummations of thrust.

NNLO soft function for electroweak boson production at large transverse momentum

The soft function relevant for the production of an electroweak boson (photon, W, Z or H) with large transverse momentum at a hadron collider is computed at next-to-next-to-leading order. This is the first two-loop computation of a soft function involving three light-cone directions. With the result, the threshold resummation for these processes can now be performed at next-to-next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy.

Analytic Regularization in Soft-Collinear Effective Theory

In high-energy processes which are sensitive to small transverse momenta, individual contributions from collinear and soft momentum regions are not separately well-defined in dimensional regularization. A simple possibility to solve this problem is to introduce additional analytic regulators. We point out that in massless theories the unregularized singularities only appear in real-emission diagrams and that the additional regulators can be introduced in such a way that gauge invariance and the factorized eikonal structure of soft and collinear emissions is maintained. This simplifies factorization proofs and implies, at least in the massless case, that the structure of Soft-Collinear Effective Theory remains completely unchanged by the presence of the additional regulators. Our formalism also provides a simple operator definition of transverse parton distribution functions.

Factorization and Resummation for Jet Broadening

Jet broadening is an event-shape variable probing the transverse momenta of particles inside jets. It has been measured precisely in e+e- annihilations and is used to extract the strong coupling constant. The factorization of the associated cross section at small values of the broadening is afflicted by a collinear anomaly. Based on an analysis of this anomaly, we present the first all-order expressions for jet-broadening distributions, which are free of large perturbative logarithms in the two-jet limit. Our formulae reproduce known results at next-to-leading logarithmic order but also extend to higher orders.

The gluon jet function at two-loop order

The inclusive gluon jet function is evaluated at two-loop accuracy. This function is relevant for resummations of large perturbative logarithms in collider processes involving low-mass gluon jets. The jet function corresponds to the imaginary part of the gluon propagator in light-cone gauge, which is adopted for the calculation. In addition to the leading jet function, the power-suppressed two-gluon jet functions are given and their renormalization is discussed.

NNLO corrections to semileptonic and hadronic B decays

We review recent progress in the perturbative calculations for semileptonic and hadronic B meson decays with an emphasis on the phenomenological implications of the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) corrections. Specifically, we consider CP-averaged branching ratios of tree-dominated B -> pi pi/pi rho/rho rho decays and the inclusive determination of |V_ub| from B -> X_u l nu.
