Relic density of Dark Matter in the Inert Doublet Model beyond Leading Order. I) The Heavy Mass Case

A full renormalisation of the Inert Doublet Model (IDM) is presented and exploited for a precise calculation of the relic density of Dark Matter (DM) at one-loop. In this first paper, we study the case of a DM candidate with $m_{\rm DM} \sim 500$ GeV. In this regime, the co-annihilation channels are important. We therefore compute, for a wide range of relative velocities, the full next-to-leading order electroweak corrections to 7 annihilation/co-annihilation processes that contribute $\sim$ 70\% to the relic density of DM. These corrected cross-sections are interfaced with {\tt micrOMEGAs} to obtain the one-loop correction to the freeze-out relic density. Due to the accurate measurement of this observable, the one-loop corrections are relevant. We discuss the one-loop renormalisation scheme dependence and point out the influence, at one-loop, of a parameter that solely describes the scattering in the dark sector. A tree-level computation of the relic density is not sensitive to this parameter.

LHC constraints on the minimal Dirac gaugino model

Most SUSY searches at the LHC are optimised for the MSSM, where gauginos are Majorana particles. By introducing Dirac gauginos, we obtain an enriched phenomenology, from which considerable differences in the LHC signatures and limits are expected as compared to the MSSM. Concretely, in the minimal Dirac gaugino model (MDGSSM) we have six neutralino and three chargino states. Moreover, production cross sections are enhanced for gluinos, while for squarks they are suppressed. In this contribution, we explore the consequences of the current LHC limits on gluinos and squarks in this model.

LHC limits on gluinos and squarks in the minimal Dirac gaugino model

Dirac gauginos are a well-motivated extension of the MSSM, leading to interesting phenomenological consequences. At the LHC, gluino-pair production is enhanced while squark production is suppressed as compared to the MSSM, and the decay signatures are altered by a more complex chargino and neutralino spectrum. We investigate how this impacts current gluino and squark mass limits from Run~2 of the LHC. Concretely, we compare different assumptions about the electroweak-ino spectrum through four benchmark models paying particular attention to the effect of the trilinear $λ_S$ coupling, which induces a mass splitting between the mostly bino/U(1) adjoint states. Among other results, we show that for large $λ_S$ the additional $\tildeχ^0_2\to f\bar f \tildeχ^0_1$ decays somewhat weaken the limits on gluinos (squarks) in the case of heavy squarks (gluinos). Moreover, we compare the limits in the gluino vs. squark mass plane to those obtained in equivalent MSSM scenarios.

Proceedings of the first MadAnalysis 5 workshop on LHC recasting in Korea

We present the activities performed during the first MadAnalysis 5 workshop on LHC recasting that has been organized at High 1 (Gangwon privince, Korea) on August 20-27, 2017. This report includes details on the implementation in the MadAnalysis 5 framework of eight ATLAS and CMS analyses, as well as a description of the corresponding validation and the various issues that have been observed.

The Higgs singlet extension at LHC Run 2

We discuss the current status of theoretical and experimental constraints on the real Higgs singlet extension of the Standard Model. For the second neutral (non-standard) Higgs boson the full mass range from 1 GeV to 1 TeV accessible at past and current collider experiments is considered. We present benchmark scenarios for searches for an additional Higgs state in the real Higgs singlet extension of the Standard Model in Run 2 of the LHC. We furthermore discuss electroweak corrections to the H to hh partial decay width within this model.

Closing in on compressed gluino-neutralino spectra at the LHC

A huge swath of parameter space in the context of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) has been ruled at after run I of the LHC. Various exclusion contours in the $m_{\tilde{g}}-\m_{\tildeχ_{1}^{0}}$ plane were derived by the experimental collaborations, all based on three-body gluino decay topologies. These limits are however extremely model dependent and do not always reflect the level of exclusion. If the gluino-neutralino spectrum is compressed, then the current mass limits can be drastically reduced. In such situations, the radiative decay of the gluino $\gino \ra g \neut{1}$ can be dominant and used as a sensitive probe of small mass splittings. We examine the sensitivity of constraints of some Run I experimental searches on this decay after recasting them within the \texttt{MadAnalysis5} framework. The recasted searches are now part of the \texttt{MadAnalysis5} Public Analysis Database. We also design a dedicated search strategy and investigate its prospects to uncover this decay mode of the gluino at run II of the LHC. We emphasize that a multijet search strategy may be more sensitive than a monojet one, even in the case of very small mass differences.

Vacuum stability of the effective Higgs potential in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model

The parameters of the Higgs potential of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) receive large radiative corrections which lift the mass of the lightest Higgs boson to the measured value of 126 GeV. Depending on the MSSM parameters, these radiative corrections may also lead to the situation that the local minimum corresponding to the electroweak vacuum state is not the global minimum of the Higgs potential. We analyze the stability of the vacuum for the case of heavy squark masses as favored by current LHC data. To this end we first consider an effective Lagrangian obtained by integrating out the heavy squarks and then study the MSSM one-loop effective potential V_eff, which comprises all higher-dimensional Higgs couplings of the effective Lagrangian. We find that only the second method gives correct results and argue that the criterion of vacuum stability should be included in phenomenological analyses of the allowed MSSM parameter space. Discussing the cases of squark masses of 1 and 2 TeV we show that the criterion of vacuum stability excludes a portion of the MSSM parameter space in which (mu tanbeta) and A_t are large.

Dimension 7 operators in the b to s transition

We extend the low-energy effective field theory relevant for b to s transitions up to operators of mass-dimension 7 and compute the associated anomalous-dimension matrix. We then compare our findings to the known results for dimension 6 operators and derive a solution for the renormalization group equations involving operators of dimension 7. We finally apply our analysis to a particularly simple case where the Standard Model is extended by an electroweak-magnetic operator and consider limits on this scenario from the decays Bs to mu+ mu- and B to K nu nubar.

Neutralino dark matter and the Fermi gamma-ray lines

Motivated by recent claims of lines in the Fermi gamma-ray spectrum, we critically examine means of enhancing neutralino annihilation into neutral gauge bosons. The signal can be boosted while remaining consistent with continuum photon constraints if a new singlet-like pseudoscalar is present. We consider singlet extensions of the MSSM, focusing on the NMSSM, where a `well-tempered' neutralino can explain the lines while remaining consistent with current constraints. We adopt a complementary numerical and analytic approach throughout in order to gain intuition for the underlying physics. The scenario requires a rich spectrum of light neutralinos and charginos leading to characteristic phenomenological signatures at the LHC whose properties we explore. Future direct detection prospects are excellent, with sizeable spin-dependent and spin-independent cross-sections.

Gamma-ray lines constraints in the NMSSM

We present the computation of the loop-induced self-annihilation of dark matter particles into two photons in the framework of the NMSSM. This process is a theoretically clean observable with a "smoking-gun" signature but is experimentally very challenging to detect. The rates were computed with the help of the SloopS program, an automatic code initially designed for the evaluation of processes at the one-loop level in the MSSM. We focused on a light neutralino scenario and discuss how the signal can be enhanced in the NMSSM with respect to the MSSM and then compared with the present limits given by the dedicated search of the FERMI-LAT satellite on the monochromatic gamma lines.
